* BannedInChina: The video for "Dirrty" was banned on Thai television, due to its blatant sexuality.

* FollowTheLeader: Received a lot of comparisons to Britney Spears early on; these mostly stopped nice she took complete control of her image with the “Stripped” record. The album’s single "Dirrty" got compared a lot to Britney Spears's "I'm A Slave 4 U", however.

* ContractualPurity: Christina was particularly annoyed at being portrayed as a squeaky-clean pop princess for her first album. ''Stripped'' was an attempt to combat this trope. While not to the extent of Music/BritneySpears she still caught some flack for teenage girls imitating her. Mind you the image change was still successful, probably on account of her earlier material already being quite suggestive (Radio/RadioDisney initially banned "Genie In A Bottle" and "Come On Over Baby").

** "Beautiful" was written by Linda Perry for herself, as she wanted to pursue a solo career. After Christina sang it at her house to "break the ice", she was so impressed that she let her use it on the ''Stripped'' album. Christina wanted to rerecord some of the vocals, but Linda refused because [[BrokenAesop that would ruin the song's message about imperfection]].

* NamesTheSame: "Army Of Me" on Lotus is not the same song as Army of Me by Music/{{Bjork}} on her album Post. Around The World is not a cover of Music/DaftPunk, people have almost mentioned track names resembling the works of Billie Holiday, Music/MyChemicalRomance, Music/ColbieCaillat, Music/BlackEyedPeas, Music/{{Eminem}} and Music/NoDoubt.

* BreakawayPopHit: Her career was launched by "Reflection", which was recorded for the ''{{Disney/Mulan}}'' movie. The musical style is so different from the film, it's unlikely newer fans will make the connection.

** ''Lotus'' received even more backlash from Christina than ''Bionic''. Almost the entire promotion for the entire album consisted of a video for ''Your Body'', three performances on Series/TheVoice and a few interviews (which mainly focused on The Voice). ''Your Body'' was very well received but she never performed it live and ''Just a Fool'' was announced and released as the second single with almost no promotion. The final nail in the Lotus era was that while at first she claimed to have taken a break from The Voice to tour those plans were either scrapped or BlatantLies. Some fans believe this was the result of ExecutiveMeddling while others believe this is simply the result of the album flopping.
* CreatorBreakdown: ''I'm OK'' and ''Oh Mother'' are about the abuse she witnessed as a very young child. She has also admitted to suffering depression partially due to this experience. This shows in the songs Understand, Mercy On Me, The Right Man and the greater ''Stripped'' album.
* DearNegativeReader: Songs like "Here To Stay", "Still Dirrty", "Army Of Me", "Sing For Me", "Best Of Me", "Empty Words", "Circles".
* DevelopmentHell: Invoked by Christina herself in choosing to take a couple of years off (At least three) between each album, starting from 2002 to 2010. To some people it's annoying and leads to disappointment, other people think she's justified in her choice to take a break. Lotus was an aversion of this expected trope, taking only 2 years and 6 months to come out. She's now pregnant and engaged so the album is due in 2017 according to fan guesses.

* [[PromotedFanboy Promoted Fangirl]]: Worked with Madonna live and was one of Etta James favourite singers. Aguilera was picked to sing at James' funeral.

There are alot of wasted moments in her career, across the board from music to touring to collabs to friendships to movies.

** Some fans believe this is what happened to ''Lotus''. Christina was supposedly forced to release before she was done working on it to capitalize on the popularity she got from Series/TheVoice and because of this she abandoned the album.

** However, the fans seem to have been proven wrong, seeing as she's been working on it for quite a while now, and there seems to be good evidence (including a rumored title ''and'' a tracklist!) that it will come out in 2015!

** FridgeBrilliance: Due to an unsteady and unhappy childhood, she decided to make her family her top priority, thus the lack of desire to tour or promote her music but enjoying a steady gig on ''The Voice'' because that only requires a minimal amount of promotion and traveling.
* BannedInChina: The music video for "Dirrty" was censored in Thailand due to Thai-language posters that advertised its sex tourism (including mention of child prostitutes). *
** It also caused controversy in America for its sleazy content, but it wasn't banned for it.
* BrokenBase: Most musical fans love her first three albums (self titled, Stripped, Back To Basics), but after 2008 there is a shattering of her fan and former fan base. Some prefer her pre 2008 self, others like the recent career and artistic decisions she has made.
** ''Stripped'' was pretty divisive as some fans of her first album thought going the Britney-fanservice route was a disservice.
* CallBack: "Lotus" features a lot of lyrical and musical call backs to her earlier works:"Reflection" gets a shout out in the introduction, "I won't let you bring me down" in Best Of Me reminding people of Beautiful, "I'm A Fighter" in Army Of Me, pretty self explanatory, "Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir?." in Around The World, reminds people of Lady Marmalade, "Red Hot Kinda Love" refers to ''Infatuation'' on Stripped. "Let There Be Love" reminds many of her works on "Bionic".

* CreatorBacklash: "Bionic" has all but been forgotten, a half-assed second single, tour cancelled, her claiming she'd done all the work recording the album and didn't regret not touring for it. Doubts are for any song on it making to her next era.

* FanonDiscontinuity: ''Bionic'' has suffered some discontinuity due to its underachieving singles.
** ''Lotus'' had only one single. Few fans supported it.
* LoveItOrHateIt: Her singing is either gorgeous and powerful or overblown and trying to hard.
* MusicIsPolitics: When she started she was the louder Britney Spears. Then she got sexy and strong with Stripped, then classier and sweeter with Back To Basics, and since 2008 she's been trying to appeal to Lady Gaga's art pop demographic. She used to fill a niche but now since Lady Gaga happened, she's been demoted to a degree. There are only so many roles in the pop landscape.

* SeinfeldIsUnfunny / FairForItsDay: She was extremely controversial in 2002, then Music/LadyGaga happened.
* SignatureSong: "Beautiful" has penetrated social consciences and plays a part in most inspiring shows, performances, and is covered frequently. "Genie In A Bottle" also has great radio play even now. For her more adult material, "Keeps Getting Better" works as well.
