* HeyItsThatGuy:
** Carwood Lipton is now an NYPD detective.
*** Apparently Detective Matthews finally learned his lesson and is now a NYPD cop
** Jarod is a detective, too (or is he pretending?)
** Special Agent Elle Greenaway guest-stars as a Russian mob queen.
** Alex Hunter appears as a nightclub owner.
** Frank shares a brunch with Matt Walton, better known as the Optimum cable commercial guy.
** ADA Erin Reagan-Boyle is the HotScientist in Film/IRobot.
** Det. Sgt. Martinez must have gotten a demotion to Patrolman.
** Artie Bucco got a new job as an NYPD Bureau Chief.
** Dr. Lilith Sternin is the Inspector General!
** Robert Clohessy, who plays Sgt/Lt. Gormley, was an NYPD sergeant in a memorable scene in Film/2012, where Steve Rogers helps him battle the Chitauri, and gives him a strategy to evacuate civilians out of the affected area.
** David Ramsey, aka Diggle on Series/Arrow. He began his role on Arrow during his second season on Blue Bloods. He has appeared somewhat less frequently since Arrow began, due to his being a character on both shows, but still remains a very important character on Blue Bloods.

** Tom Hammerschmidt was a colleague of Erin's at one point
** In "The Poor Door," Det. Louis Weems is familiar with having his head used as a bowling ball.

* RealitySubtext:
** Any episode with Reverend Potter in it highlights the levels of distrust between the police and the black communities, and some of them were produced around the same time that the "Black Lives Matter" movement - started in the wake of the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner - took off.
** Some elements of "Forgive and Forget" and its lead-in "Custody Battle", specifically an officer using an unauthorized chokehold on a suspect that led to the suspect's death, invoke the controversy against the NYPD for the death of Eric Garner, himself the victim of an unauthorized chokehold.
** "Loss of Faith" has the NYPD dealing with the possibility of retaliation from a rogue ex-cop who was terminated from their ranks. The story does seem to have parallels to the case of Christopher Dorner, who went on a shooting rampage against the Los Angeles Police Department after he thought he was wrongly terminated.
