** ''Midnite Vultures'' had enough outtakes that he considered following it up with a second album culled from the same sessions. He ultimately decided not to, perhaps because ''Midnite Vultures'' itself wasn't quite as well-received as previous albums. However, most of the known outtakes were used as {{BSide}}s, and two songs ("Earthquake Weather" and "Rental Car") were reworked for ''Guero'' six years later.

** Similarly, "Wow" was a spontaneous studio experiment based around freestyling - he had no intention of releasing it until his kids overheard it and loved it.

** ''Odelay'' could have been a much darker CreatorBreakdown album, inspired by the recent death of Beck's grandfather Al Hansen among other things: Beck started working with ''Mellow Gold'' producers Tom Rothrock and Rob Shnapf on an album of slow, somber folk-rock songs, but partway through he decided to abandon the material and work with the Dust Brothers instead. One song from the shelved project ended up on ''Odelay'' itself ("Ramshackle") and two more were b-sides ("Brother" and "Feather In Your Cap").
