!!''Dark Angel''
* The early chapters of ''Dark Angel'', where we are privy to sixteen year old Gillian's exceedingly negative thoughts about herself and low self-esteem. Gillian is pretty much invisible at her school and at home; her mother is a neglectful alcoholic and her father sometimes doesn't even bother coming home, while at school not even her teachers pay her much attention and the one friend she does have has been inadvertantly ignoring her since she got a boyfriend, even forgetting to pick her up and forcing her to walk home in the dark and cold. After Tanya and David (the boy she has a crush on) take her home to get her warmed up after she almost freezes to death in the creek, she overhears David speculating that she attends the junior high school, meaning he not only doesn't realize they go to school together but thinks of her as a child. She also overhears Tanya mocking her pyjamas for having teddies on them and the stuffed animals in her room. After they both leave, Gillian is so miserable, lonely and full of self-loathing she even briefly starts to think it was a ''mistake'' choosing to come back to life and that there's nothing worth staying for. This can hit especially close to home for anyone who has been in similar situation/mindset.

* Rashel seeing her mother and friend Timmy killed by a vampire in front of her...at the age of ''[[HarmfulToMinors five]]''...on her ''ABirthdayNotABreak birthday''. After Rashel gets away from the vampire, she is placed in police custody, who try to get her to tell them what happened. Rashel desperately tries to convince them that a vampire killed her mother and best friend, but of course they don't believe her, thinking she's being InnocentInaccurate. Rashel gets taken to live with her great aunt Corrine, a sweet old lady who is her only living family. She tries to look after Rashel as she struggles with her own grief, hugging Rashel, giving her some sleeping medicine and tucking her up i bed. However, Rashel still feels completely terrified and alone; after Corrine goes to sleep she climbs up to the top of her wardrobe to hide, because she's too scared to sleep in her bed. The vampire then ''comes back'' for Rashel and starts a fire in the house to finish the job. Rashel manages to escape, but Corrine dies in the fire, leaving Rashel with absolutely no one. She gets sent to foster care and from that moment on she never really feels safe, vowing to find a way to become strong and fight back so she'll never be that helpless little girl again.

* Quinn's backstory. All he wanted was to marry the kindhearted girl he fell in love with, only to be made into a vampire against his will. He went to his father for help, only for him to turn on him and try to kill him. He also kills the girl he loves for being a monster too, even though she's a sweet and gentle person who doesn't even try to fight back when she's attacked. Quinn blames himself for Dove's death, because he had persuaded her to go to his father in the first place. His own father and the whole town where he grew up turns on him for something that isn't even his fault, triggering his transformation into [[WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds a cold and ruthless monster]].
* Quinn finding out Hunter is not only behind the Blood Feast, but is also the vampire who killed Rashel's family. Despite everything that had happened to him, for centuries the one positive thing Quinn had to hold onto was his respect for Hunter and gratitude for taking him in. Finding out he's a utter hypocrite and far worse than Quinn himself is clearly a [[BrokenPedestal huge emotional blow]]. And despite Quinn's years of loyalty and being more or less like a son to him, Hunter doesn't even seem all that torn up about ordering his death, just a bit disappointed.

* Poppy's 'death', which is [[OnlyMostlyDead actually just her entering the final stage of vampirisation]]. It still manages to be one of the biggest {{Tearjerker}}s not just in ''Secret Vampire'', but the entire series. After sending her parents out for the evening, knowing she'll never see them again, Poppy walks around the house saying goodbye to everything, including her cherished belongings as she can't take them with her. She changes into her favourite nightdress, lights a whole bunch of candles, puts on one of her favourite CD's and even gets out her old stuffed to have them next to her. As she's starting to drift off, she finally tells James that she loves him and thanks Phil for being a good brother. She then asks them [[DoNotGoGentle "I fought, didn't I?"]] and they reassure her.

* Keller's note her mother left with her:
--> ''People Die... Beauty Fades... Love Changes... And You Will Always Be Alone''.
* Delos's back story.
* Poppy's whole story. She goes from the highest of highs--a funloving teenager enjoying her first day of summer vacation and having a new-found resolve to ''finally'' get with James romantically--to finding out that she has pancreatic cancer and ''won't survive the summer''. And even though James offers her the chance to save her life, this also means never growing old or having children, and she can never be with her family again. It's something that she struggles with throughout the entirety of ''Secret Vampire'', even after becoming a vampire.

* Ash's CharacterDevelopment throughout ''Daughters of Darkness''. When Mary-Lynnette tells him [[spoiler: she killed her childhood friend and werewolf, Jeremy, in order to save him]], he becomes increasingly upset and apologizes over and over again. In the finale when he has to leave, he keeps repeating "I wish I was human" as he says goodbye to her.

* Poppy finding out she has pancreatic cancer. She has had a growing sense of dread all day before eavesdropping on a conversation between her doctors, her mother and stepfather Cliff. She realizes something is very wrong because her mother, who never cries, is [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness sobbing her eyes out]]. Poppy then learns at the age of sixteen that she may have only three months left to live at most, and the only thing the doctors can do for her is treat her for the pain (which is going to be horrendous). Poppy's mother [[ItsAllMyFault blames herself]] for not realizing there was something wrong with her daughter, while the doctors try to explain that it isn't her fault because this kind of cancer is rare in children and rarely shows symptoms until it's in an advanced stage. Cliff, whom Poppy doesn't always get along with, reacts with [[AngerBornOfWorry anger]], shouting that there must be ''something'' they can do, causing Poppy to realize he really does care about her. As Poppy heads back to her room, [[HeroicBSOD she at first feels numb, then absolutely terrified]] as it hits her that she's going to be dead in a short space of time and there's ''nothing'' anyone can do.

* Phil's reaction to Poppy's 'death'. She appears to be physically dead and he reacts accordingly, having a complete breakdown, desperately trying to wake her up and trashing the room until James manages to calm him down. He also hates the thought of taking Poppy's stuffed toys away from her, but knows he has to so it looks like she just died in her sleep.
* Poppy writing her goodbye note to James. She has just been through hell and back as it is and thinks it'll all turn out okay as long as her best friend and soulmate is there with her, only for Ash to inform her that staying with James will put him in danger because in saving her, he broke the Night World's cardinal laws. To protect James, she decides to leave and now faces the prospect of having to adjust to being a vampire and starting a new life completely alone.

** Special mention goes to when she calls home after waking up from conversion. Her parents think she died from her cancer. And she sits there in tearful silence listening to her mother's voice. She desperately wants to say something and tell her mom that she's alive and she's okay, but she can't bring herself to do it.
