** This troper at least finds it heartbreaking when the parents passes when the PC is still a young man or woman. I mean they can seem a bit abusive (especially mum with the soap and everything) but passing due to incurable cancer. Or dad due to accident is damn harsh. I'm glad other relatives ain't involved.

** This troper encountered a scene where her father nearly succumbed to alcoholism. After talking to her, he had an emotional breakdown in her arms, and finally agreed to go to rehab--he got better. That really got the waterworks going.
** This troper had his character try out for the baseball team. He tried over and over, but he never quite made it. In his late adulthood, he joined a senior baseball team, and was the pitcher. He got the MVP award for his work. This troper was driven to happy tears at just how perfect that was.
*** There's something to be said for just living an absolutely normal life as well. Started out as a baby girl, moved through life in total normality, and then got the pleasure of seeing life repeat itself with my own children, my own grandchildren, and finally a happy and contented drifting off to sleep...* Sniff*
*** As for happy tears: One situation has an old woman that all of the children call a witch because she yells at them all the time. At one point, your character notices her everpresent light goes out and you go check on it. When she answers the door and you tell her you wanted to know if she was okay, she tells you the bulb blew out and she is too weak to replace it. If you do it, she tells you a story about a husband and child she lost in an accident with a train. If you agree to do odd jobs for her in exchange for cookies and brownies, you receive this as part of the result: "You've done something much kinder than you can imagine at this age. You've given this woman a reason to live."
** This troper, after several unlucky attempts at finding a boyfriend, finally found a charming young man who she planned on marrying. On the last date before she was going to propose, he ended up leaving me for another woman. I didn't want to accept it at first- I just thought he walked out to get his thoughts together, so it wasn't until clicking on the marriage button a few times and being told I had no options did it sink in. Needless to say, my character died alone and I haven't played since.
** This troper ended up playing a socially-adept and remarkably well-balanced person who, unfortunately, wasn't particularly adept with romantic relationships. She had three--two with the same guy, just years later--and all of them ended in stupidity. One: the guy married the next girl to strut along. Damn it. Two: Untrustworthiness ruined it. First guy again: Same guy from the first left my character at the altar. Unlike the first two, I was closer to crying out frustration than anything. Just...god damn it.
** This troper wrote his guy's life out to make it easier to show just how sad this game can get:
*** Teen: Friend commits suicide while he tries to get help.
*** Young Adult: Both parents die unexpectedly, his girlfriend gets pregnant and leaves him a few months later. He has no job and is still living in his parents' old home.
*** Adult: He enters a stable relationship, she treats him like crap and leaves, they get back together, things seem well. At least he got a job.
*** Midlife: His daughter gets married, which makes him propose to his girlfriend. She accepts, and leaves him at the altar. He gets together with somebody else, who turns out to have been already married and in an affair with him. She divorces and they get back together, and she ditches him after she gets rich due to what he thought was a pyramid scam.
*** Old Age: Gets back together with her, after she's become a much better person, due to the lack of influence by her jerk sister, who has come down for a visit. The girl he's with turns out to be a pilot, and does a barrel roll. His daughter ignores him entirely. He gets engaged to the woman he's with, and they have a good marriage, even being voted "Couple of the Year". He dies peacefully in his sleep.
** This Troper was playing the game for the first time up until he was kidnapped trying to help a man locate his "nephew". The text then said "This man is sick. He tortures you, kills you, and later buries your dead body. Your remains are never found."
* This troper's character became quite attached to her. At first I set him up as a quite, shy child who valued his morality over anything else. But then...
** Childhood: Was rejected and bullied because he was simply nice to other pepole (the witch woman and Louis to count), getting beat up in one scenario, having been laughed at for showing no interest in girls. During a fight he had enough and delivered a punch at his bully. Later goes to Junior prom with best friend.
** Teen: Barely passes school, dad dies in crash. He loses his first four girlfriends and stayed a virgin until Adulthood (first cheated, second refused to marry him, third broke up with him, forth lasted to Young Adulthood), saves his friend from suicide, saves the drug store from a gun shooting (he worked there), helped his friend deal with his homosexuality, helps other friend raise her baby, was almost tricked into an affair with female neighbour (who was married), had no date for the prom and was unable to get into collage.
** YoungAdulthood: Stood up for old man gettting mugged, gets heart broken by forth girlfriend (he stood up for her sister), becomes suicidal and gets therapy, old friend becomes a father and character becomes motivated to find true love. Finally hooks up with a fairly pretty girl at his job who has low self-esteme and is a hopeless romantic like him, the two have an awkward love life before...
** Adulthood: Fifth girlfriend from before moves in and shortly later the two get a small, romantic wedding. Character Saves young kid from drowning and has a few people tempt him with cheating on his wife (never does). Soon after him and his wife try for a baby, first time the wife had a miscarriage and then came MiddleAge...
** Middle Age: Becomes life of party in the later years and rekindled old friendships despite being The Stoic for so long. His wife have a child early in the life stage - a girl named Jennifer. Wife starts to suffer from Post-natal depression, character showers her with attention. Daughter becomes a bit of a rebel and is a Daddy's girl. Has to pull her from a sleepover due to the parents being drunk. Wife and character recives 'Couple of the year award'. Learns that some friends had died and others (who were his friends and outcasts during childhood) had become amazingly rich and important. Daughter almost has a breakdown and starts drinking - character supports and eventually stops her drinking, starts dating someone who at first glance was a punk (random pirceings, had an expensive car and was a few years older than daughter) but turned out to be an absolute gentleman.
** Old Age: Gets a clean bill of health, tells a few teenagers to stuff it (they made fun of him for enjoying parties) and daughter marries her sweetheart (the gentlemanly punk from the last life stage) and with no more options I clicked the grey sunset.
** You have played Alter Ego - you have died. I started crying. The fact that my character goes through so much shit just to help people, along with getting bullied most of life, dad dying when he was a teen, almost dying just to save people he didn't know, saving a friend from suicide, helping another with her teen pregnancy, accepting people who his old friends resented and getting his heart broken so many time just so he could find his true love. Even when he became suicidal - did NOT top trying for HIS happy ending and after so many years of trying...he got it. An awkward and sweet wife, a lively daughter and a good son-in-law. It made me teary eyed.
* This troper once played a character who was incredibly reckless to a point of killing themselves numerous times in their life, being miraculously kept alive only by the fact the troper also cheated like a bandit to cancel out the death every single time by a glitch. However, to realize how many times they came close to dying in numerous, horrible ways if not outright die as it were, and then using the glitch to not die in the Very Definitely Final Death as an elderly (which caused them to be dead, yet not dead, yet unable to do anything and remain in limbo for the rest of their unlife), the troper realized it is far more horrible to keep reviving your accident-prone character over and over than it is had they simply died and remained dead the first time off. (One must wonder how their family and friends coped).
* On one of the first playthroughs this Troper did, I wondered what would happen if I committed suicide in the game. When I decide to do it, this is what it said:
--->Before you go, I would just like to tell you that suicide is an act of anger. It will probably shock and devastate the people you leave behind, leaving emotional scars that will take a long time to heal. The knowledge that you will get your revenge may be a comforting thought, but remember, the people you leave behind will try very hard to put this event in their pasts as quickly as possible. Unlike you, they realize life must go on regardless of pain. This game is over.
* On at least one occasion, this tropette happened to have a boyfriend with the same name as her character's boyfriend in a roleplay. She and her best friend were playing at the same time, as this tropette decided to be unnaturally cruel and cheat on the poor guy. After reaching young adulthood, she decided to marry the original boyfriend... Only to discover he wasn't there. Recalling the past of the boyfriend in the roleplay, FridgeHorror kicked in and this tropette believed she had caused him to kill himself. Needless to say, she cried like a baby to her best friend.
* This troper was playing for a certain imageboard one night. He filled the role of Swag Anderson, the most swag mofo who ever lived. Throughout his life, he did many awesome things. He overcame the fear of a strange furry creature as a baby, saved his suicidal friend as a kid, and got an awesome tattoo as a teenager. Everything was going right for him. He got in a relationship with Henrietta. It was great. They loved each other, shared certain experiences, and grew up together. Then she left him at the altar. Swag Anderson grew depressed, and everything he did started to fail. His life was falling apart. He finally got a better job, and eventually found a new woman and married, but never had children. In his old age, Swag decided to play baseball, and was killed when a strong throw caused heart failure. Goodnight, sweet prince. R.I.P. in peace.
