* SevenDeadlySins: Tom Kenny [[http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/02/07/spongebob-squarepants-theory_n_6627556.html debunked this theory]] in a 2015 interview, but some believe that [=SpongeBob=]'s friends represent the seven sins. Mr. Krabs is Greed; Squidward is Wrath; Pearl is Lust; Patrick is Sloth; Sandy is Pride [[UpToEleven (and how!)]]; Mrs. Puff is Gluttony; and Plankton is Envy. Although there ''are'' other interpretations.

** Squidward even calls Mr. Krabs out on selling [=SpongeBob=]'s soul for sixty two cents in ''Born Again Krabs''. Squidward hates [=SpongeBob=] with a burning passion of a thousand suns, but even he was disturbed at what Krabs did.
** In ''Stuck In The Ringer'', [=SpongeBob=] yells at Patrick for ruining his life by gluing him to his wringer. But the [[WhatTheHellTownspeople townspeople]] [[MadeOutToBeAJerkass call [=SpongeBob=] out for yelling at Patrick]] even though it was Patrick who got him in that mess in the first place.

* TheScrappy: The pizza customer from "Pizza Delivery" has received a lot of backlash among fans for good reason. [=SpongeBob=] and Squidward overcome a lot of hell to deliver one Krabby Patty pizza, only for the former to be berated and have the door slam shut at his face all because he was apparently missing his Diet Dr. Kelp to go along with it, which neither employee has heard of in the order to begin with.

After the movie, there is much more emphasis on [[GrossOutShow Gross-Out Humor]], BlackComedy, and ComedicSociopathy. For the current era (season 9B-present), the show brought back the surreal humor, but it's now UptoEleven due to its more DenserandWackier tone, with the aforementioned tropes for post-movie era being toned down.

* VocalEvolution: Creator/TomKenny's [=SpongeBob=] voice was somewhat deeper and nasal in earlier seasons, before becoming higher pitched and childlike in the movie & revival seasons. Does not help with VagueAge.

** Season 1 in general had a more relaxed voice acting, aside from Squidward, who ironically sounded more nervous and his voice mellowed out afterwards.

* UnCancelled: [=SpongeBob=] [=SquarePants=] initially ended production in February of 2002 on request of Stephen Hillenburg & Derek Drymon. Nickelodeon tried so hard to convince Stephen to resume production with the series but Stephen & Derek denied the option. Around 2003-2004, there were negotiations to revive the series & Paul Tibbitt agreed to step in as showrunner for the new seasons. So the series went back into production in 2004 & with the completed movie finished to screen into theatres(designated to be the series finale of the original run), the show's new episodes began airing in 2005.
** Incidentally, creator Stephen Hillenburg remains an executive producer on the series so he hasn't completely abandoned the show.

** The 2017 Free Comic Book Day comic has a huge one to the comics industry at that point in time:
--> '''Spongebob:''' (referring to the Day itself) Why, it's the day when all the graphic literature shops provide ''gratis'' samples of their wares in a pathetic attempt to bolster an industry which has spent the last two decades in a death spiral brought on by lethal interaction between the lack of variety and a monopolistic distribution system!
