* Almost by definition a {{Deconstruction}} tends towards cynicism; a {{Reconstruction}} tends toward idealism. This does not necessarily apply to the works themselves: deconstructive works can end being extremely idealistic.

* In regard to the literary philosophies of {{Escapism}} and {{Realism}}, works based on the former are more likely to be idealistic while those of the latter will more likely, but not always, tilt towards cynicism.

* In the fields of social philosophy, communism and anarchy are odd because they both lean towards a very idealistic vision of the world (each postulates that if a certain "corrupting element" is removed, then peace and understanding will reign over society, because HumansAreGood), but reality itself is more cynical than they. Take note of how frequently [[AnarchyIsChaos anarchy is misunderstood as rampant chaos]] and how all historical attempts to put communism into practice have instead ended up creating horrifically brutal tyrannies in the name of "equality" or "a worker's paradise" and it's hard not to agree.
