* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: Felicity's fiancé, Stuart, leaves when Felicity returns with Gus because he knows she truly loves Gus. {{YMMV}} on this one. Stuart does not leave Avonlea until after Felicity returns the ring saying "I accepted your proposal in good faith, Stuart. Finding Gus changed everything. You must know that." Earlier in the episode Stuart actually tells Gus to leave Avonlea, despite Gus effectively also being engaged to Felicity ({{It Makes sense in Context}}) and clearly in need of help from the Kings, the only family he has. ''Gus'' actually does this more for Felicity and Stuart ("She's better off with Stuart McCray"), fortunately no one listens.

* {{Expy}}: Aunts Olivia and Hetty are somewhat softened versions of Aunts Laura and Elizabeth from the author's ''EmilyOfNewMoon'' series. Sara's backstory, too, has as much in common with Emily, as with the Sara in ''TheStoryGirl.''

* DawsonCasting: Although Gus Pike's age is never specified in the earlier episodes, the character was likely intended to be in his teens when he was introduced. Michael Mahonen was 26.

* TheOtherDarrin: Poor Cecily was mostly in the background until she contacted tuberculosis, then she returns from the sanatorium with a different actress. The new Cecily was not well received by the fandom, though it should be noted in her favor that she looked significantly more like her on-screen mother than the previous actress did.

The stories are loosely based on Creator/LMMontgomery's novels ''The Story Girl'' and ''The Golden Road'' (Sara is the eponymous Story Girl), with side-plots culled from Montgomery's massive short story collections, most of which had nothing to do with the Anne of Green Gables series.

* EstrogenBrigadeBait: Again Gus Pike, he managed to be a naive optimist with a DarkAndTroubledPast. His accent (what accent was it anyway? --possibly an obscure Newfoundland brogue), good looks and ability to play the fiddle helped a great deal as well.
