* Badass: Shingo Izumi is revealed in a flashback in #19 as such: He breaks his arm to save someone and shrugs it casually off. Also, Eiji, who shows no fear while plummeting to his death off buildings and even confronts Yummies untransformed, and Goto, especially in episode 38. These two just scream "badass".
** BadassBiker: Goto, again. Perhaps there's a good reason he survived the Ride Vendor squad massacre, along with the fact that he's an ex-police officer.
*** Ankh and Eiji also count.

* ArcWords: "Happy Birthday." Aside from Kougami's obsession with the concept of birth and beginnings, maybe there's more meaning to those words. Especially when it's Kobayashi holding the pen.

** Expect to hear "desire" a lot in the series, as it's used to describe the motivations of nearly every major character.

* AnAesop: An interesting lesson on Greed, or rather Desire. While of course the evils of excess Greed are seen in, well, the Greeed as well as various people who become Yummies, the other side of the spectrum, wanting nothing at all or the lack of desire, is shown in the Purple Core Medals with . The moral of the story is that, well, Greed IS Good, so long as you can control your desires without hurting others.

* AmbitionIsEvil: Subverting this trope is the CentralTheme of the series. At first, it looks like the show is going to play it straight: the villains are literally called the Greeed and are motivated by such, while TheHero has no ambition whatsoever. There is however, Kougami, a character who extols the virtue of desire while supporting the hero; early in the series, his motives are shrouded in mystery. Eventually, it's revealed that Eiji's lack of ambition isn't what makes him a hero; it's what's holding him back from being an even better hero than he already is, and rather than giving Kougami a nefarious hidden agenda, the show firmly establishes him as the BigGood. Ultimately, the series ends up hammering home the point that a total of ambition is a form of depression, and depression is bad.

* AscendedMeme: Most likely an aversion, but an interesting coincidence nevertheless: OOO is quite similar to the popular /m/ FanCharacter Kamen Rider Yen. Not only in the coin theme and coin operated weapons, but also the main character of both is a homeless drifter and fights monsters born from greed.

* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: The Shocker Grunt in #28. When a shot from an actual gun fails to injure Eiji (he switched out a prop gun for a real one), he takes the gun himself and tries to destroy the OOO Driver.

*** Somewhat averted in one episode, if I recall. Eiji is shown getting ready for bed, and starts removing Candroids he had hidden in his sleeves and boots, as well as wrapped around the inside of his shins.

The major recurring theme in Kamen Rider OOO is about "desire"Yokubō or "greed". The interesting part is that rather than painting a clear Black-and-White picture about the topic, their story advocates a healthy balance between all-consuming obsession and purposeless nihilism; in short, it presents a pragmatic view about desire.

The story opens with the reawakening of the Greeed [sic], a race of powerful monsters created hundreds of years ago with alchemy. Each Greeed is made up of "Core Medals", magical coins which are like their brain and other body organs, and "Cell Medals", which are their 'blood' and food. Cell Medals are created by human desire, and the Greeed 'farm' Cell Medals from humans. Driven by their own insatiable hunger, the Greeed seek both Cell Medals to get stronger, and the far more rare Core Medals, which can unleash their full, terrible power upon the world. There is also a prophecy which states that if a single being is able to gather all of the Core Medals, they will become the destined "Multi King" of the Greeed.
