There was a second "Mk 5" scare in July 2015, when Namor and the briefly-returned Swilatia left after being called "cancers" by Weis. In spite of much speculation about a schism, the crisis ended when Namor and Swilatia returned. On August 13th, Sjalhaven was appointed WA delegate by Koyro, who left to work at a new job. A third "Mk 5" scare came in September 2015, when a minor dispute briefly led to Michillies and Masseau leaving the region; after less than two days, though, the pair had returned.

* Nevanmaa: A Finnish-speaking archipelago in the Northern sea. One of the few countries with a semi-democratic government. Best known for being raging racists and fanatical monarchists, thus making them natural enemies of Michillies.

* Nevanmaa: A Finnish-speaking archipelago in the Northern sea. One of the few countries with a semi-democratic government. Best known for being raging racists and fanatical monarchists, thus making them natural enemies of Michillies.monarchists.

* Michillies: A medium-sized nation in the south east. Its language was a Romance-style ConLang and the country was best known for their (admittedly-slightly-over-the-top) opposition to monarchies before a major canon overhaul in late September 2015.
** Odissia: A democratic constitutional monarchy that basically acts as a republic and shares an almost imperceptible border with Michillies. Most notable for being one of the anti-Allied powers in the Second Great War.

** Not the case in Nevanmaa, Qianrong, Sakatia, Michillies and several other countries with regional churches. Generally these are either Christianity is Protestant or Christianity is Orthodox, though Qianrongese Christianity's closest RL equivalent is the Kakure Christianity of feudal Japan.

** A much more lighter (and non-violent) example: The Michillian national football (soccer) team manager was forced to resign out of humiliation after the team was eliminated from the fourth Coupe d'Esquarium in the Round of 16. Due to the fact that the team was eliminated so early on home soil, the Michillian Football Association decided to rub salt in the wound by rejecting his resignation just so they could fire him instead.

** Made funnier, and somewhat troubling, by the fact that several of the liberal democracies (namely Arkiasis, Britanno, Geadland and Vyvland) are members of the Esquarian Community, alongside Nevanmaa's ArchNemesis Michillies.
** An even more dramatic example, Nevanmaa later allied with the far-left regime in West Cortoguay, due to both being enemies of Michillies.

** Michillian culture and politics is an odd France-Italy hybrid, with gratuitous Portugal or Spain thrown in on occasion and not-so-subtle Taiwanese influence on its constitution.

** Odissia between the Great Wars. After Odissia's humiliating withdrawal from the First Great War, the monarchy was forced to give up the absolute rule it had enjoyed to that point and establish a constitution. Not only did the constitution fail at curbing the monarchy's power or even improving the lot of the average Odissian, it also enabled the rise of a brutal nationalist dictator who dragged Odissia into an even more devastating conflict known as the Second Great War. The dictator's intransigence was such that the anti-Odissia allies needed to drop an atomic bomb to convince him to surrender, luckily marking the end of Odissia's troubles.
** Cortoguay throughout basically all of its existence. Formerly a Michillian colony, shortly after independence in 1865 it was led by a succession of military dictators with coups and revolutions common. After a brief respite, another dictator took power, Socrates Solano, who turned the nation into a fascist police state until his overthrow (30 years later) during the Second Great War. Then, after a bloody civil war, the nation was partitioned into communist west and capitalist east. While the East democratized in the early 1950s, the West has continued it's reign of terror and will for the foreseeable future

* GettingCrapPastTheRadar: The Michillian national pastime, if footy doesn't count. The Festival da Música (based roughly on [=RL=] Sweden's Melodifestivalen) is essentially a showcase of how much innuendo and political commentary musicians can possibly get past the radar in an apolitical family programme. The country's winning entry, a song that was not-so-subtly anti-racism and anti-sexism, in the 2012 edition of the Esquarivision Song Contest (hosted by SitcomArchNemisis Nevanmaa) is often considered the single greatest testament to the trope.

** Two more formerly existed before being retconned in October 2015: monarchist Odissia, Michillies and Osonia (read: Odissia) and republican Nevanmaa
* HereditaryRepublic: Though no one in the country would ever admit to it nowadays, Michillies used to be this in practice before a coup in 1865 dispensed with the pretext of being a "republic". Nominally elected in the name of the people, the State-Lieutenancy effectively passed down from parent to child as in a monarchy, though a few people who were less than fit for the job were passed over. This practice ended after one of the autocratic monarchs of Odissia attempted to take over the country after being passed over, leading to less than desirable results...

* InsistentTerminology: Michillians will demand that you their country "the United Republics" rather than "Michillies", justified by the fact that Montkollers and Cortoguayans tend to get angry at being lumped in with ethnic Michillians. Just get ready to face the pearly gates if you dare call the country "the Michillies".

** Played straight, then subverted in Michillies, where former Premier Elisavètta da Cruce was hailed as a tough, no-nonsense reformist leader and often overshadowed her theoretical boss, while her SpiritualSuccessor Cattarina Scarpare was seen as a snobby pushover and famously cost the Michillian right one of the largest legislative majorities in Michillian history a mere two decades after Da Cruce.

** Other major satirical news sources include Qianrong's Trang Vai and its subsidiaries Namora Shinbunbo and Nevanmaan Hääyöaieuutinen, Geadland's Enrume Ogen, Scotia's An Crass, Odissia's Almost News Daily, and Ainin's the Burning Tire.

* MyCountryRightOrWrong: Ethnic Michillians are almost as famous for this mentality as they are for their fanatical republicanism.

** A similar case also exists for Osonia's struggle for independence from another Odissian-imposed monarchy, which existed much longer (from the 1850s to the Michillian liberation of the country in 1944) than the Michillian kingdom.
** Lecistan heavily follows this trope, being under Odissian rule from the 1400's until 1945, but also subverted it in July of 2015, when the king of Nevanmaa took the Lecistani throne. His rule has acted as an occupation.

* OddNameOut: In South Conitia, well known nations are mostly Romance-sounding: Odissia, Osonia, Cortoguay, Lyannesia, Montenia, and... Lecistan. Provided, its alternative name is the more Romance-sounding Lecia, but its main name sticks out like a sore thumb on the continent. Even Michillies, with a name derived from the Germanic Gothic language, sounds more Romance than Lecistan.

** Odissia was initially this as the "Party for Freedom and Justice"-ruled "Odissian Democratic Republic", but this was scrapped in a rewrite of the Second Great War and changed to a Spanish-style transition to liberal democracy.

** Was taken UpToEleven with Michillies, who are widely known for their distaste of monarchies and is almost never referred to by the government as anything other than "the Most Serene Republic". Has died down since a canon overhaul in late September 2015.

* SeriousBusiness: Michillians take their football (soccer) very seriously, rioting every time their team is eliminated from an international tournament. Especially noted after the team's early home soil elimination in the fourth Coupe d'Esquarium.
** Same with Luziyca

** Same with Luziyca
d'Esquarium.

** Michillies to Nevanmaa and Tuthina (and vice versa)

** The Latin people once ruled large swathes of South Conitia, expanding to modern-day Odissia, Osonia, Cortoguay, Masseau and Lyannesia. Today, after some major reformations, political skirmishes, power struggles and border movements, Michillies is all that remains of that empire.

* XanatosGambit: A rather banal diplomatic example occurred when Nevanmaa banned the use of flags that looked similar to the defaced black-white-red tricolour used by republican rebels. Odissia, which had an undefaced black-blue-red tricolour, changed the blue stripe to white, ostensibly to represent the country's commitment to peace. This forced Nevanmaa to either embarrass itself in front of its own people by backtracking and changing the law to permit the flying of the new Odissian flag, thereby (hopefully) forcing it to legalise the display of republican flags as well, or face an international backlash by standing firm and prohibiting the display of the Odissian flag in Nevanmaa.
** Another example of this gambit coming into play was the 1964 East Cortoguayan coup d'etat attempt: East Luziyca thought that East Cortoguayan President Francisco Santos' leftism and his public willingness to negotiate with West Cortoguay regarding unification was dangerous to the region (specifically Luziycan interests in the region) and met with dissident military members to launch a coup. If the coup succeeded, a more pro-East Luziycan leader could take power, but if it failed, it would force the political establishment to get rid of Santos, lest the government lose foreign support.

* NonindicativeName: [=StJames=] is not a saint and surprisingly not named James, justified as an ArtifactTitle based on the name of the player's first nation (The Saint James Islands) and the fact that it is easier to spell than the name of his Esquarian nation Michillies.

** [=StJames=] (Michillies) simultaneously plays the trope straight and subverts it by being unabashedly loyal to and fond of England, the land of his birth, to the point of not minding the royal family despite being a republican, but would rather not talk about how he is an American citizen. Until something like the WorldCup comes around, when he tends to gush if the US is successful in any sort of way.

* Ambiguously Brown: Wolfmanne is half Maltese and half Nicaraguan. In terms of race, he is mestizo and somewhat dark skinned. However, most people barely even notice this.

* ChristianityIsCatholic: Wolfmanne is Catholic, as is Scotia.

** Wolfmanne places Malta very close to his heart, despite living in the United Kingdom. He considers himself Maltese, as does the vast majority of his family, who happens to be living in the UK, and will soon hold Maltese citizenship along side his British citizenship..

* ReligiousBruiser: Wolfmanne in arguments.
* SillyRabbitIdealismIsForKids: Britanno and Wolfmanne, by the virtue of both being relatively pragmatic conservatives, or by taking the less idealistic solution in the event of regional disputes (i.e. kick the troll on our RMB, don't wait this length of time to see if he stops and becomes a good member of the community).

* TokenReligiousTeammate: Wolfmanne, Gibbs, and Vjaarland are some of the few theists in Esquarium. The trend is similar for the rest of NationStates, where the vast majority of people tend to be irreligious.

The region suffered an attempted raid/coup d'etat by raiders from the NationStates raiding group the Black Hawks, as part of the unofficial regional Raider/Defender game on December 5th, 2015. The raiders, masquerading as a 'travelling circus of refugees', were quickly banjected and suppressed by Vyvland, and new delegate and security measures were enacted, including an endorsement cap, a reorganisation of the chain of command and a 'trusted nations' list. This is the first time in its 5 year history that Esquarium was attacked by raiders from the Raider/Defender game.

The first "Mk6" threat came on June 22, 2016, when a dispute between Scotia and Hippo, Francilie, Lyonsland, Weis, Masseau and others occured. Hippo made an ultimatum stating that if Scotia was not banned within one week, he would quit the region and create another one. Pollmaster Francilie then made a poll where 10 people on 12 were for banjecting Scotia. The dispute eventually ended with Scotia leaving by himself.
