* BornLucky: The boys have been in many situations where they were lucky to come out alive, but this one takes the cake. They were in a violent shootout (complete with multiple explosions) and were the only ones to get away unscathed. PlayedForLaughs, of course. Even ''Kenny'' is completely unharmed.

* BaitAndSwitch: The boys are hired to find out what happened to a woman's missing pie. They see her dog eating the last of it. They tell the woman their conclusion of what happened, but it's a horrifically gruesome and complicated story involving attempted murder.

* BrickJoke: Early on, Cartman wants a semen sample from Butters, and tells Butters that he'll go to jail for the rest of the life if he doesn't. At the end, after the kids are done playing detective, Butters comes in with a cup and explains that he finally has one after two days of trying to masturbate.

* {{AccidentalHero}}es: The boys' "success" in cleaning up the South Park Police Department and shutting down the local drug ring consists mostly of their stumbling into criminal situations, causing the paranoid criminals to overreact and get themselves killed through their own stupidity.

* SayingSoundEffectsOutLoud: The boys pretended to fire their toy/finger guns by shouting "Bang! Bang! Bang!" Even after they officially join the force, they were never issued real equipment or weapons so they continued to do this while fighting actual armed criminals. Kenny also tries to imitate the sounds of bullets ricocheting which Cartman disliked.
-->'''Kenny:''' Pakew! Pakew!
-->'''Cartman:''' Kenny, it doesn't go "Pakew! Pakew!", it goes "BANG! BANG! BANG!"

* TooDumbToLive: Everyone in the drug ring is stupidly reckless and gets themselves killed. One of them even commits suicide after deciding [[MakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext he is the only one he can't trust]]. The boys' "heroism" mostly consists of unwittingly making the paranoid criminals overreact and then get [[HoistByHisOwnPetard hoisted by their own petards.]]

* WinsByDoingAbsolutelyNothing: The boys often tried to fight criminals by "shooting" them with toy guns and only managed to survive thanks to the criminal's extreme stupidity. The meth lab bust however simply had the boys standing idly at the front porch while the dealers accidentally destroyed the place and killed themselves trying to defend it.

overlong plot summary pruned as per mod decision

Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny are playing "Detectives"; they initially struggle to find cases until little Sarah Peterson tells them her doll has been stolen. They go to the crime scene (Sarah's bedroom), but their investigation is interrupted by another group of boys playing "FBI", who declare that they are taking over the case. Determined to beat the FBI to the punch, they bring in Butters for questioning, and, after Kenny and Cartman put him through a GoodCopBadCop interrogation, Cartman demands a semen sample. With Butters shut in Cartman's bathroom [[ADateWithRosiePalms trying to produce the sample]], the boys get a tip that Fosse and Bill have stolen the doll to play "Gynaecologists", and although the FBI show up just as they are planning to storm the house and demand that Fosse and Bill surrender, the boys go through the back entrance, and, after a "shootout" with the thieves, they recover the doll and return it to Sarah.

The grateful Mrs. Peterson tells the Park County Police Department of the boys' detective work, and Lt. Dawson rewards them with Junior Detective badges. Thus the stage is set for a parody of police dramas as Dawson instructs the boys to investigate a meth lab. The boys clearly have no idea what a meth lab is or just how much danger they are in; when they knock on the door of the lab, the dealers open fire, but a ricocheting bullet blows up some flammable liquids, causing the lab to go up in flames and kill one of the dealers. Two others escape in a truck, but are so busy taunting the boys that their truck overturns and is crashed into by first a UPS van, then a car, finally exploding and killing the two dealers. A fourth dealer escapes in a plane... which runs out of fuel and crashes into the post office, killing the pilot. Dawson is furious with the boys for their "recklessness", and they are taunted for their perceived honesty by the other adult police officers, all of whom except one -- Hopkins -- [[DirtyCop are on the take]].

The next day, Dawson pulls the boys out of school with news that the meth lab is tied to a crime syndicate operating out of the Peppermint Hippo, a strip club in Inglewood, and he sends them to investigate. A bouncer asks them what kids are doing in a strip club, so they claim to know the owner, Gino -- who is currently meeting with members of the drug ring, one of whom recognises the boys as cops. A gunfight begins (although the boys are using their fingers or toy guns as "weapons"), and Dawson arrives with a squad from the Park County PD, sending in Officers Hopkins, Murphy, and Jenkins -- and, moments later, the FBI arrive and take over the investigation. But inside, the three Park County officers are shooting at Gino's men, and it emerges that Murphy and Jenkins are on Gino's payroll. Jenkins shoots Hopkins in the arm to incapacitate him... and then Murphy shoots Gino so that he and Jenkins can take over the drug ring, followed by Jenkins so that he can be sole leader of the drug ring, and finally himself when he realises he is the only person he can't trust.

Hopkins praises the boys for their help in cleaning up the drug ring and police corruption, and Dawson promotes them to full detectives. However, disillusioned with police work, the boys decide to switch to playing "Laundromat" -- which is unfortunate for Butters, who has finally succeeded in producing a semen sample.
