!!This episode features examples of the following tropes:
* AsHimself: Yankees outfielder Danny Tartabull.
* BaitAndSwitch: When Jerry's nana is confronted in an alleyway by a tough-looking man, the viewer is led to expect the worst. Instead, the man ends up being kind and well-spoken, helping Nana find her way to the bank representative.
* FlippingTheBird: George develops an obsession with thinking people are giving him this gesture subtly. Played straight by Kristen at the end of the episode after Jerry's appearance on the pledge drive ends up a fiasco.
* MistakenForGay: Kramer does this to Dan, after hearing his voice through a door and assuming he is a woman wanting to profess love for Jerry. When he discovers the voice is coming from a man, his assumption about Dan's intentions does not change in the slightest.
* NoSocialSkills: Much of the trouble in the episode comes from the gang failing to understand a litany of social cues. While some are complex, such as finding the right time to dispose of thank you cards, others result from an utter failure to think before they speak, such as the phone calls with Dan and Jerry's nana.
* ShutIn: According to Uncle Leo, Jerry's nana hadn't left her apartment in 25 years before this episode.
* VocalDissonance: Dan, despite his burly and bald appearance, has an unusually high-pitched voice that causes everyone who only hears him to mistake him for a woman.
