* MissedHimByThatMuch: The reason the ARC was never aware of the ''Kaprosuchus''' existence is because the anomaly the creature came through opened around the time they first started investigating them, less than a year before they created the anomaly detector. On top of that, the anomaly didn't gather much attention, as it opened in a residential home, closed quickly, and the then-baby creature was unceremoniously flushed down the toilet by the homeowner. The creature grew over the next five years, preying on homeless people, and nobody noticed they were going missing.

After being let go from the ARC, Connor reconnects with his old friend Duncan, who has become a recluse obsessed with creature sightings. At Duncan's urging, Connor takes him to investigate a possible creature sighting at the docks, and they come face to face with a very angry ''Kaprosuchus''.

* ConspiracyTheorist: Duncan already had shades of this back in series 1, but by this episode he's become a full-on [[TheShutIn shut-in]], with several security cameras outside his apartment and the infamous [[StringTheory cork board covered with connected photos]].
* DisposableVagrant: This is how Duncan thinks the creature's been able to avoid detection for so long. It was exclusively preying on homeless people living at the docks, and the cops don't care enough to investigate when a homeless person dies.
