* BadBadActing: It's not terrible, by any means, but the crew are a little... ''off'' while discussing the plan with Saffron. It may not stand out on a first viewing, but a careful watch on a second viewing makes things like out of place laughter, expressions that don't quite match the situation, and other little quirks stand out. Inara even remarks that she's surprised Saffron didn't see through it.

* BatmanGambit: The crew pull one of Saffron. Figuring she'd find some way to con them out of something to keep the Lasseter for herself, they engineer a fight between Mal and Inara so that she leaves angrily for her "assignment" ...in reality parking herself close to the drop spot and ambushing Saffron when she comes to claim the gun.

* BrutalHonesty: When Saffron attempts to invoke NotWhatItLooksLike (see the quote below), Mal diffuses the completely unrealistic expectation (she was holding a gun on him and he was holding a priceless gun from Durren's collection, which should have been secured and in a display case) with this instead.

* SarcasmFailure: Of a sort. Mal certainly sounds sarcastic in the beginning, naked in the desert, saying: "That went well!". But as the final minutes of the episode show, things really ''did'' go well overall(for once).

* ImpliedDeathThreat: Simon pulls a masterful one on Jayne. A direct threat would be met with violence or bravado, so he paralyses Jayne and then says that he would ''never'' harm Jayne for betraying them. [[InconvenientHippocraticOath While this might be true]], he knows that Jayne would never believe it.

Simon lets Jayne thinks that he's paralyzed for a few seconds (during which Jayne is clearly terrified) before explaining that it's a temporary situation to make sure that Jayne wouldn't injure himself upon coming to, and then has a nice chat with Jayne about [[Recap/FireflyE09Ariel what happened on Ariel]], and how they really should trust each other and live together instead of looking for opportunities to back stab each other. He promises never to hurt Jayne, despite all the times that Jayne is likely to be helpless and under Simon's knife due to the wounds that Jayne tends to pick up in his line of work, and then Simon leaves. River informs Jayne that she can kill him with her brain.
