A Date With Rosie Palms is no longer a trope

* ADateWithRosiePalms: Light ''deliberately'' invokes this idea to cover up what he's really doing. Although he's just looking at the magazines, not actually doing anything explicit.

* AdaptationExplanationExtrication: A minor example but the anime omits a bit of expository dialogue between Ryuk and Light explaining Light made sure to hide the mini TV in a potato chip flavor nobody else in his house liked so it wouldn't be discovered before he had a chance to use it.

* InconsistentDub: The writers of the dub establish the setting is in Japan, but there's one line of dialogue that is out of place. The dub says that Light spent $400 on a miniture TV, but the original says the price was about ¥40,000. Oops.

At night, the Kira Task Force are looking into the surveillance into Penber at the train station. They notice that before Penber's death, he's looking at someone who is in the train before the doors close. To top it off, he was carrying an envelope that was left on the train. Just then, Watari gets a call from Ukita about information on the Kira case so L orders him to call him through Matsuda's phone. As he calls, L uses the name "Suzuki", and the news is about Naomi Misora's disappearence. L remembers her from the "B.B. Murders Los Angeles" case.

While Matsuda and Aizawa say that she must have disappeared because Penber died, L believes otherwise as she was emotionally strong. But he wonders if Kira got to her. As a result, L orders surveillance cameras to be placed in the houses of the families Penber was monitoring; Kitamura and Chief Yagami, despite Matsuda and Aizawa's warnings that is a violation of human rights. The chief gives out the order, despite all this. He believes that he cannot let his personal feelings get in the way of the investigation.

At night, the Kira Task Force are looking into the surveillance into Penber at the train station. While doing so, Matsuda and Aizawa have tired eyes. They ended up noticing that before Penber's death, he's looking into someone who is in the train before the door closes down. To top it off, he's carrying an envelope. Just then, Watari gets a call from Ukita about information on the Kira case so L orders him to call him through Matsuda's phone. As he calls, L uses the name "Suzuki", and the news is about Naomi Misora. It turns out they have history together since "B.B. Murders Los Angeles" case.

While Matsuda and Aizawa said that she's dead because Penber died, L believes otherwise as she has great inner strength. But he wonders if Kira got to her. As a result, L has ordered surveillance cameras to be placed all over the houses of Kitamura and Chief Yagami, despite Matsuda and Aizawa's warnings that is a violation of humans rights. The chief gives out the order, despite all this. He started to rant to the two about it, and Matsuda apologizes for it, but Soichiro apologizes as well.

Light immediately suspects that something is off when he gets home due to his three separate methods of rigging his door for intruders, and believes there may be cameras or wiretaps in the house. He tells Ryuk that if he wants to be able to eat apples in his room without being seen, he will have to locate all the cameras.

That evening, as Chief Yagami and L watch on the monitors, Light does his best to behave like a normal teenager. He sees L's message on TV
about it, the 1500 investigators and Matsuda apologizes for it, isn't fooled. He takes a particular bag of potato chips up to his room, where Ryuk tells him the number and locations of cameras. Light opens the chip bag, which contains a mini LCD TV and a piece of Death Note taped inside. He uses this to kill two criminals while appearing on camera to be studying at his desk. Chief Yagami believes this clears Light of suspicion, but Soichiro apologizes as well.
L is not convinced.

The next day, Ryuk remarks on the fact that Light had the costly LCD TV thrown in the trash with the chip bag.

correcting yen amount

** However this statement is still technically accurate as 1 dollar = 1000 yen, therefore 400 dollars = 40, 000 yen. This could also be Ryuk being used to speaking the English language, as he wrote the Death Note's instructions in English because it is the most common language.

* ProperlyParanoid: Light puts a scrap of paper in the door as [[ObviousTrap an obvious]] [[IKnowYouKnowIKnow tell]], leaves his door handle ajar, and sets up a piece of pencil lead so that it will break if someone enters his room. All three options have been triggered, it can be attributed to his mother being in his room with laundry or something like that, but when the subtle traps are triggered but someone takes the time to reset the paper scrap, then that's a sign something more suspicious is going on.

I removed what I knew didn\'t actually happen - but I can\'t remember what actually DOES happen to fill that in...

In an attempt to rattle Light if he is Kira a message is played on the television show the Yagami family are watching at dinner claiming that 15,000 detectives are being dispatched to Japan to investigate the Kira case in response to his murders.

However Light knows they are watching and doubts that the news is true.
He declares out loud

"the ICPO sure is stupid. I mean there's no point in making this announcement. I mean if they're going to send all these people here to investigate shouldn't they keep it a secret? Even the FBI agents who were secretly investigating were killed by Kira, why would this be any different? If you ask me this is nothing more than a desperate attempt to shock Kira into revealing himself somehow. Quite frankly I wouldn't be surprised if Kira sees right through this."

L points out that there was no way for Light to know that

A) there were FBI agents secretly investigating(the public wouldn't have known, that's what secret means!)
B) that those FBI agents were killed(revealing that secret agents were active and then killed to the public would serve no purpose other than to panic everyone so it probably didn't happen.)

Knowing that Detective Yagami hadn't shared any details of the case to his son he deduces that the only reason that Kira would know points A) and B) would be if he was in fact Kira.

Acting as quickly and rashly as he has to all other minute clues he arrests Light and has Watari interrogate him until he comes clean about the whole thing.
How he is killing, why people are still dying while he is in custody and the whereabouts of the notebook are all revealed through Wataris' methods.

The series ends as the notebook is seized by L and Light is revealed to the world as Kira and executed.
