* DoWrongRight: Larry is ''pissed'' to learn that Drew hired other killers through his coke dealer to deal with Jeannie because now not only does he have competition, but it's a bunch of amateurs that are going to muck up his planning and likely get this whole deal busted wide open by the law. [[MurderIsTheBestSolution He immediately starts planning to kill everyone involved]] before Michael convinces him to let him work Drew over into calling off the new guys before they do anything.

* HopeSpot: After scaring Drew into running for his life and stopping the dump truck-driving assassin who didn't get called off in time, it looks like Michael has successfully protected Jeannie...and then Drew gets back into contact with him revealing that the hit is still on because Larry, now calling himself "Michael Westen", got to him and made it clear that he ''will'' finish the job and Drew ''will'' pay the money if he wants to stay alive.

* ActuallyPrettyFunny: Larry gloats to Michael about "two dead Andersons" after killing Drew, but he's not broken up at realizing Team Westen successfully faked Jeannie's death and even chuckles a bit. Of course, it helps that in the end he still got paid thanks to Drew's money, so he's willing to let this go.

* BadGuysDoTheDirtyWork: Drew ends up getting a NeckSnap courtesy of Larry after trying to set up Larry to take a sniper shot from Michael while giving him his payment.

* BoringButPractical: Downplayed. When racing to stop one of Drew's hitmen from killing Jeannie, Michael's narration explains there are major three targets to stop a vehicle: the driver, the engine, and the tires. He points out of the three, the last is the "safest" option since by removing a vehicle's front tires from the road, you drastically limit its maneuverability and thus prevent it from swerving into traffic like what can happen with the other two. Of course, in this case, he's trying to get the front wheels of a ''dump truck'' off the road and that requires using a hijacked pickup truck to get in its way and force the wheels up into the bed, which is obviously very dangerous.
-->''"It doesn't matter if you're trying to take out a moped or a dump truck. Every vehicle has three areas of vulnerability: The driver, the engine and the tires. A can of paint across the windshield could blind the driver. A 50-millimeter cannon could kill the engine. But neither will guarantee the truck won't swerve into oncoming traffic. But if you force a vehicle's front tires off the road, you drastically diminish its maneuverability. That way, it can't swerve. Of course, getting a dump truck's tires off the ground is even more difficult than it sounds and a hell of a lot more dangerous."''

* TheDreaded: Michael notes that he doesn't like impersonating ''actual'' people rather than crafting a fake identity because often there are too many pitfalls when dealing with people who've interacted with them that could give away the deception. That's why he prefers being someone the other person is scared shitless of, because that fear prevents uncomfortable questions from being asked.

* ShootTheHostage: Larry points out after killing Drew that Michael could have taken the shot since "[Michael] knew [Drew] was dead" the moment Larry had him in his grip. Michael claims he just didn't have the shot, but Larry prefers to think that at the end of the day, Michael just didn't have it to shoot him. Michael notably doesn't refute that belief.

* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Sam and Larry, for a given value of "teamwork" since Michael is trying to sabotage Larry on the side, which Sam is all for. Sam even before learning Larry is alive rather happily reminisces that he hated him (and immediately changes it to present tense upon learning otherwise) and has no kind words when they meet in person, including asking if he's keeping young [[WouldHurtAChild on the blood of children]]. Larry on the other hand expresses bemusement Michael is running around with the "boy scout" and clearly views him as a shackle on Michael's "potential".

* TokenEvilTeammate: {{Deconstructed}} with "Dead" Larry, who makes it very clear why associating with this type of person any more than is necessary for the job is a very dangerous prospect, especially if you start to actually trust them when they haven't changed a bit. The reason Larry makes it away alive at the end is, despite everything he's done and intended to do, Michael at this this time can't bring himself to shoot his EvilMentor when he has him dead to rights.
-->''"Spend a career in covert ops and you're going to know some bad people. You'll work with them, you'll live with them, you might even trust your life to them. But none of that makes them your friend. It can't. Because one day, you might have to end them."''

* BavarianFireDrill: Deconstructed by Michael:
-->''Staging a believable emergency response is almost impossible on a budget. One lone ambulance isn't going to sell it. So unless you happen to have a fleet of fire and rescue vehicles, uniforms, and a dozen actors you trust, you really '''do''' have to call 911. You just have to have called your people first.''
* BecomingTheMask: Michael pretends to be Larry when confronting Drew, and afterwards is unsettled by how natural it seems to be slipping into the role of an AxCrazy sociopath.
* CatchPhrase: Larry's is, ''"some people live, some people die."''
* CleanFoodPoisonedFork: Larry tries to kill Jeannie by spraying her fork with atropine. Michael and Co. save her by replacing the fork with a clean one, but having Jeannie fake a reaction to the "poison" that allows them to spirit her out of the event safely.
