!!Short Summary

Touma, Index, and Stiyl, are tasked by the Laura Stuart of the Anglican Church to join up with the Agnese Forces of the Roman Catholic Church in order to "rescue" one of their nuns, Orsola Aquinas, from the Amakusa Church. However, Amakusa reveals to Touma, and company, that they had actually been trying to ''protect'' her from the Catholic Church.

Touma is then forced to fight against his former allies after Agnese Sanctis reveals that her faction will execute Orsola in the name of the Catholic Church for figuring out how to interpret the ''Book of Law'' grimoire.

[[caption-width-right:350:'''The Roman Catholic Power Struggle''']]

After the defeat of one of the Roman Catholic Church's most powerful spells, the Gregorian Chant, during the Deep Blood Arc, the church's power has been weakened drastically, enough for them to have a power struggle within their own ranks. As the Roman Catholic Church is still the largest and most powerful Christian sect in the world, and desired to maintain it's dominance; because of this, after discovering that Orsola Aquinas can decipher the Book of the Law, a powerful grimoire that is said to end the age of the religion based on the cross (Christianity), they created an elaborate plan to capture her (and later execute her in secrecy), by fabricating the story that the Book of the Law that was being transported by Japan for exhibition and was stolen by the Amakusa Christians, and also kidnapped Orsola Aquinas. Even, Stiyl Magnus thinks it is a rational decision for the Amakusa Christians to regain power using the Book of the Law after Kaori left them. The Roman Catholics sent out one of their main fighting strengths, Agnese Forces, which consists of 250 battle nuns, to execute the mission.

The Anglican Church however, was allowed to aid the Roman Catholic Church's in their effort to capture her Orsola Aquinas, at the insistence of Archbishop Laura Stuart. Kanzaki Kaori, a Saint and a member of Necessarius, has recently went missing during the incident, and is presumed that she will act on her own accord in order to aid her former comrades, the Amakusa Christians, as such problems will definitely arise if a Saint would intervene, as such the Archbishop wants to defuse the situation before Kaori does anything troublesome. Laura Stuart sends out Stiyl Magnus to retrieve Index and her guardian, Kamijou Touma to aid with the mission of rescuing Orsola Aquinas with the Roman Catholic Forces. Laura also instructs Stiyl to give a cross to Orsola Aquinas when the opportunity arise.

Orsola Aquinas is a Roman Catholic Church nun, who is famed for spreading the word of the gospel in three pagan countries and has a church named after her. She has been reported to have found a way to decipher the Book of the Law (a book not even Index nor Sherry Cromwell could decode), using incomplete copies of the book. The reason being, is that she wants to find a way to destroy grimoires as she sees that nothing good can truly be gained from the power of grimoires.

Because of her capability of deciphering the Book of the Law, Orsola was targeted by the Roman Catholic Church, and was forced to go to Japan, a country where the Roman Catholic Church had no power over, and seek the protection of the Amakusa-Style Remix of Church.

[[caption-width-right:350:Knights of England invade Japan]]

After hearing of the reports of the Roman Catholic Church, that the Amakusa Christians have stolen the Book of the Law and kidnapped Orsola Aquinas. Kaori returns to Japan, to observe if the church she has left long ago, has truly wavered from the path that she guided them on when she was still their leader.

Meanwhile, several members of the Knights of England swam from England all the way to Japan, in an effort to solve the situation on their own due to political turmoil between the Knights and the Church, by disobeying the orders of Laura Stuart to assist the retrieval of Orsola Aquinas and the Book of the Law and instead simply kill all the Amakusa Christians, regardless of the relationship it has with the Church or the Roman Catholics, as it does not affect Britain. However, they are later attacked by Kanzaki Kaori and were easily decimated in a matter of seconds. Tsuchimikado Motoharu, a operative and a spy for various organizations, was mobilized as well by an unknown faction to retrieve the Book of the Law when the Roman Catholic Church and the Amakusa Christians are to fight.

!!!Plight of the Roman Catholic Nun

Before the events of the arc took place, Orsola Aquinas escaped from the Amakusa Christians during a confrontation with the Roman Catholic Church (no casualties were reported in both sides), believing that they had ulterior motives (specifically to seek the power of the Book of the Law) instead of just protecting her. She later enters Eastern Tokyo, to seek refuge in Academy City, an enemy of the Magic Side.

As ordered by Laura Stuart, Stiyl Magnus went to Academy City and 'kidnapped' Index as an excuse for her guardian, Kamijou Touma to get involved as well since he is part of the Science side, though according to Index this unneccessary as Touma would come to his aid even if he did not ask. As instructed by Stiyl, Touma leaves Academy City to rendezvous with him and Index in Hakumeiza. They later meet up with the leader of the Roman Catholic Church faction assigned for this mission, Agnese Sanctis. Here, they discuss the situation regarding the Amakusa Christians, while waiting for Touma to arrive.

[[caption-width-right:350:Touma meets Orsola]]

Kamijou Touma meets Orsola Aquinas at a bus stop en route to the rendezvous point, not knowing of her significance. Here, he convinces her that she cannot go in to Academy City using buses, as well as the fact that she has no entry permit. After, Orsola tells Touma him that she is being hunted, he decides that it would be wise to bring her to Index. After arriving at Hakumeiza, Touma discovers the reason for why he and Index were called upon – to help aid the Roman Catholic Church secure the Book of the Law and Orsola Aquinas. Stiyl says that Touma has fulfilled his purpose, as he has brought Orsola Aquinas to them and can now hand her over to the Roman Catholic Church, though irritates Touma a little for his careless disregard for his well-being. Orsola's reaction to this is negative, as she slightly trembles, though Touma, Stiyl and Index are unable to understand why.

However, they are later disturbed by the arrival of the Amakusa Christians, who abduct Orsola Aquinas from beneath her feet. Touma and Stiyl try to retaliate and get her back they are too late, as they have already escaped in the sewers.

[[caption-width-right:350:Agnese goes to war against the Amakusa Christians]]

After the kidnapping of Orsola Aquinas by the Amakusa Christians, Agnese gathered her forces at Hakumeiza, analyzing the current situation with the Amakusa Christians, and has set up a perimeter with a radius of 10 kilometers to detect them, thinning their forces. Though such a large perimeter was later unneeded; using the vast knowledge of Index, specifically her knowledge on the Amakusa Christians, and their use of Great Japanese Coastal Map to use one of the 47 portals in Japan, she was able to pin-point the most probable location where the Amakusa Christians are and when they would be able to use the portal, which is at the Parallel Sweets Park.

With a large gap between the current time before their mobilization against the Amakusa, the Agnese Forces prepare their weapons and themselves for the ensuing battle ahead; as such Touma and Stiyl decided to sleep, here Touma discovers that Stiyl will still fight even against Kaori, just to protect Index, though he would have preferred not involving her in the situation at all.

Around the time of their preparation (before sleeping), Kamijou Touma gets into various perverted mishaps with Agnese Sanctis due to his misfortune, such as getting to see her panties, seeing her and Index naked in the shower, and her climbing into his bed in her underwear, much to his frustration.

The Agnese Forces, along with Touma, Stiyl and Index are later mobilized in the upcoming assault on the Amakusa Christians, though with still lesser forces, as Agnese have not recalled her patrolling forces as a precaution. Agnese assigns Touma, Stiyl and Index, to investigate the park and find Orsola Aquinas, the Book of the Law, and destroy the portal, while she and her forces take on the Amakusa Christians. Touma later asks Stiyl to prioritize in finding Orsola, as their tight schedule will not allow them to find the Book of the Law, and destroy the portal as well; Stiyl and Index agrees on this, as the Book of the Law would be useless if to them if they didn't have Orsola to decipher its contents.

Meanwhile, the Amakusa Christians having seized Orsola Aquinas from Roman Catholic hands, have infiltrated Parallel Sweets Park and are preparing the ritual to use the portal. Though the Amakusa Christians prepared a spell to repel passers-by, they're are unaware of the upcoming assault by the Roman Catholics.

The battle began at 11:30; with the sounds of battle are heard from afar, Touma, Stiyl, and Index enter Parallel Sweets Park to find Orsola Aquinas. Immediately after entering the park, they are attacked by several members of Amakusa, which forces Stiyl to escape with Index after handing the cross – the one that Laura Stuart gave to him for Orsola Aquinas – to Touma. Severely outnumbered, Touma is forced to withdraw and hide. His cover is blown almost immediately afterwards by a poorly placed toolbox, which attracts the attention of one of the Amakusas. Thinking quickly, Touma uses a tube of grease towards his pursuer, momentarily disabling her ability to attack him, though this gives Touma enough of an opening and easily take her down using a tackle; Touma later taks her weapon (a dress sword) away from her.

Orsola later bumps into Touma, having escaped from the Amakusa Christians during the ensuing chaos of battle. After Touma frees her from her bounds, Orsola confirms that Touma is the one who helped her at the bus stop earlier, and asks him what he's doing in a dangerous place, to which Touma responds that he is rescuing her, and has nothing to do with the Book of the Law or the Roman Catholic Church at all (since he is allied with the Anglican Church and by their request, aid the Roman Catholic Church), which somewhat relieves Orsola, though advises Touma not to get involved with the magic side. Touma later gives the cross necklace Stiyl gave to him to Orsola, who was rather enthustiastic in receiving it, and had Touma put it on her. Touma also asks why Orsola Aquinas wanted to decipher the Book of the Law in the first place, to which she replies is that she could gain power to destroy it.

[[caption-width-right:350:Touma and Stiyl confront Saiji, the Amakusa Christian leader]]

The calm is interrupted by an explosion, as Touma sees Stiyl fall before Tatemiya Saiji, the current proxy-leader of the Amakusa Christians holding a flamberge. Touma is forced to battle Tatemiya, as he intends to take back Orsola Aquinas from the Roman Catholics as well as from the Anglican Church, even though Touma is unsure himself that Saiji would be using magic or not, as Saiji not using magic would put him in a great disadvantage and would make his Imagine Breaker useless.
Touma battles Tatemiya despite his clear advantage with a weapon in hand, though Touma manages by reading his attacks, and is able to dodge. However, he is later tricked into thinking that Saiji was actually using magic; even with Index's warnings, she was too late as Touma was already hit by one of Saiji's attacks. At the same as this, Stiyl has already recovered and prepare his fire sword to attack Saiji, though Touma was in the way, he urged Stiyl to attack Saiji regardless. With this signal, Stiyl attacks Saiji and intending to pierce Touma as well, seeing this Saiji prioritize to defend himself against the explosive force of the flame sword, as such he used a spell to defend himself from the flames and underestimated Touma's strength as he already set up an anti-impact spell on himself. However, Touma uses his Imagine Breaker to cancel Stiyl's attack, surprising Saiji, and allowing Touma to punch him in the face, negating the anti-impact spell, and defeating Saiji.

With the battle over, Touma is resting with Index near the place where Saiji is currently secured with runes by Stiyl. According to reports, there were no fatalities in both sides, and with the Roman Catholics restraining the defeated Amakusa's as well. However, their rest is interrupted by Saiji's request of letting him go. Though both Touma and Index are wary of him, Touma gives Saiji a chance to explain himself.

Saiji explains that Orsola will be killed by the Roman Catholics since she can decipher the Book of the Law, and that would mean the age ruled by the cross would end, and since the Roman Catholic Church is the largest Christian sect in the world, they would have no power. Saiji states that they were trying to protect her from them, as she sought their protection, being the local Christian group; he continues by saying that the Roman Catholic Church has lied that the Book of the Law has been stolen. Touma questions why Orsola Aquinas ran away from them in the first place if they were protecting them, to which Saiji answers that, Orsola Aquinas is like Kamijou Touma as she could not trust them completely, believing that their reason for protecting her was to gain the power of the Book of the Law, but in reality there was no reason at all, and they just wanted to protect her as what their Supreme Pontiff would do, Kanzaki Kaori. Realizing his sincerity, Touma became suspicious of the Roman Catholics.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/043.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:The moment Touma sets Lucia off]]

Touma's worries were not unfounded as he hears Orsola's scream from afar, and later the arrival of two nuns (Lucia and Angelene) to take away Saiji. They attack Touma, after he accidentally touched Lucia, injuring him. Overwhelmed by the surprise attack, Touma is helpless as with Saiji unable to do anything being restrained, however, Index is able to hijack and control Angelene's magic with Spell Intercept, temporarily disabling both Lucia and Angelene. The both of them are later forced to stop their attack, as they were signaled to pull back.

Following the capture of Orsola Aquinas, Stiyl, Touma and Index regrouped, exchanging information with Saiji. They explain that the Roman Catholic Church can execute Orsola Aquinas because she has been labeled as an enemy of God, as she has become a non-believer by a technicality of being expelled from the Church. They can expel Orsola as a member of the Church as by putting her through a Trial of Sin, which is set-up to make the one who is being tested to always fail. Since it is Roman Catholic Church matters, the Anglican Church cannot interfere, otherwise it would cause a conflict between the two sects, much to Touma's annoyance.

Saiji however, tries to relieve Touma a little by saying that he will try to rescue his comrades and save Orsola afterwards, as it is the specialty of the Amakusa Christians to challenge large forces, and later leaves. Stiyl then asks if Touma has the cross necklace he gave him earlier, to which Touma responds that he has given it to Orsola.

[[caption-width-right:350:Orsola getting beaten by the Agnese Forces]]

Using the Church of Orsola as a gathering point for their large numbers, Agnese brought her forces, the captured Amakusa Christians (in another part of the church) and Orsola Aquinas to the unfinished church. Here, they mercilessly beat Orsola Aquinas to the point her legs are completely blackened with bruises and cannot walk. Agnese mock the Anglican Church and the Amakusa Christians for being easily tricked into helping them regain Orsola. This relieves Orsola somewhat, as she believed that they handed her to Agnese knowing that she would be executed, and goes on to explain on how they, the Roman Catholic Church's actions are based on lies, while the ones who helped her do so through their trust in their beliefs and ideals. Agnese scoffs at this and says that Orsola should blame them for handing her out to them in the first place. Though, Orsola states that she could never hate those who tried to save her, believing that what they were doing was the best for her, even though they had no reason to help her.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0625.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Touma arrives to save Orsola]]

Touma unable to bear the situation, opts to rescue Orsola Aquinas and not involve the Anglican Church, as he has an excuse being a member of the Science Side. Touma finds the church using the GPS on his cellphone, and destroys the seal. Alone, he faces against 250 armed battle nuns. Agnese mocks him for being there in the first place, and tells him that he should know what he should do in the first place; Touma answers her by trying to punch her (which she blocks), and says that he is there to save Orsola. This provokes Agnese and tries to have her nuns attack Touma, however, Stiyl arrives in an explosive entrance, which surprises Agnese since Stiyl is willing to risk destroying relations between the Roman Catholic Church and the Anglican Church to interfere in Roman Catholic matters.

However, Stiyl states that his faction is now involved with Roman Catholic matters, as Orsola is now wearing the cross necklace that was prepared by the Archbishop of their church, as such she is now a member of the Anglican Church, and her being executed by the Roman Catholics without negotiation with his church, as a member of the Anglican Church, Stiyl will not allow it; he also references Index being attacked on by the Roman Catholics, which angers him.

Saiji arrives as well, having freed his compatriots, and comments on how Touma is an idiot for going on his own, though he says that he is an interesting idiot. Index arrives shortly after, scolding Touma's decision, though states that they should go and save Orsola Aquinas, to which Touma nods his head in agreement. Seeing this, Agnese orders her nuns to attack.

Touma carries the injured Orsola during the battle, trying to find a way to escape the nuns after separating from Index and the others. While running, Touma is nearly surrounded by the nuns, though are saved by the Amakusa Christians (most notably the adaptation anime has Itsuwa as the only one who helped Touma). Even then, Touma is still being pursued by the nuns, which forced him to seek higher ground, which eventually lead him and Orsola to the roof of the church. He is later surrounded by three nuns which he manages to handle on his own.

Meanwhile, Saiji is doing well on his own using his own tactic, however, he notices that Index is being chased and cornered by the Roman Catholic nuns. He tries to aid her, but is stopped by Stiyl who just defeated a few nuns. Stiyl states that getting near Index will only weaken the usefulness of Index's ability, Sheol Fear. At this point numerous Roman Catholic nuns are writhing in pain by Index's song; according to Stiyl, using the 103,000 grimoires locked inside her head, she can find the contradictions of the Christian doctrines that the person believes in, here, it is used against the Roman Catholic nuns, Saiji getting near Index would render her ability ineffective, as his teachings are significantly different to that of the Roman Catholics.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/073.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Index casts Sheol Fear]]

However, their advantage against the Roman Catholics was soon destroyed as Lucia orders the nuns to stab their ears in order for them to be unable to hear Index's Sheol Fear. Index, Stiyl, and Saiji are horrified at what they witness, and are nearly overwhelmed by the nuns, and are later forced to retreat to where Touma is, and Orsola are after they called for them. They enter the funeral chapel and closed the door, with the nuns closely behind them trying to break it down.

With time quickly running out, Touma and Index opts to use the Book of the Law embedded within her memory, as well as Orsola Aquinas' abilities to decipher it, to use against the Roman Catholics. Stiyl was fine at the suggestion at first, though protested later as Index knowing how the Book of the Law works would mean more magicians would come after, and later relented only after telling and threatening Touma to become stronger in protecting her. Their hopes are dashed however, after Index discovers that the code that Orsola uses to decipher the Book of the Law is incorrect, and states that it was a fake left behind by the author. Though thoroughly disappointed, they are immediately swarmed after by the Roman Catholic nuns, who has broken down the door to the chapel.

Touma faces against Agnese on his own, seeing this, Agnese thought that he had abandoned his comrades. Though denies this and says that he was entrusted in this matter, as he trusted them doing something else as part of their plan. Irritated by Touma's naivete, Agnese begins to chant an incantation, which opens the closed wings of her Lotus Staff. Agnese attacks using the staff, which hits Touma by a force he cannot see. Agnese continues attacking him several times with the staff, with Touma trying desperately to dodge the invisible blow from her staff. One notable attack from Agnese is her using a knife to scratch her staff which creates an invisible sharp force that cuts through Touma's back, severely injuring him.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0855.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Agnese's enemies stand before her]]

Agnese continues her attack but Touma remains resolute, and was able to predict the pattern of Agnese's attacks, and was able to dispel it. Surprised by this, Agnese tries to attack again, however, Agnese already gave Touma an opening for a counterattack, and with this Touma was able to punch Agnese in the face. After Agnese comes to, both Touma and Agnese stop fighting after realizing that the fighting on the outside has seemingly stopped, which Agnese saw as her victory, though is mistaken.

The chapel that Touma and Agnese were fighting in was illuminated by the arrival of Innocentius, with Stiyl, Index, Orsola, Tatemiya and the Amakusa Christians. Stiyl states that he used 4,300 rune cards to summon Innocentius with the help of the Amakusa Christians to setup the cards all around the Church of Orsola to form a large magic circle. Touma states that this is their plan all along, for him to preoccupy Agnese by fighting and tricking her that he has abandoned his comrades while Stiyl and the others setup Innocentius.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/089.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Touma defeats Agnese]]

Even then the Roman Catholics still had the advantage in numbers, as such Agnese thought that they could still beat them back. However, the nuns' determination wavered, seeing the power of Innocentius.

Both Touma and Agnese are aware that they alone should defeat the other one and no one else, as the conditions of victory would be fulfilled after one of them is defeated. Though Agnese is confused on how to defeat Touma, he however, steps forward and charges forward while Agnese is preoccupied in her own thoughts, and defeats her in a single blow to her face. She staggers for a few moments before falling completely unconscious.

At that moment, the nuns lay down their arms, and surrender. Touma falls unconscious as well shortly after, after receiving so much damage to his body.

!!!Aftermath

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0915.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:350:Kaori visits a hospitalized Touma to thank him for helping the Amakusa Christians]]

Touma awakes the next morning to find that he is in the usual hospital again, here, he sees that Kaori is in his room to thank him for all his done, as well as apologize to him for him being able to help them. Kaori is also there to report to Touma about what happened to Orsola and the Amakusa Christians. She says that both Orsola Aquinas and the Amakusa Christians have become members of the Anglican Church, though not converted into Anglicanism, and are now protected from the Roman Catholic Church. She continues by saying that the Anglican Church has released that Orsola's way of deciphering the Book of the Law, ensuring that the Roman Catholic Church will no longer persecute her in that matter. With the Amakusa Christians becoming members of the Anglican Church, they are still allowed to practice their own religious doctrines and teachings.

Meanwhile back in London, Stiyl reports that the Roman Catholic Church has declared that the Agnese Forces have acted on their own, and have no intention on assassinating Orsola Aquinas or anyone involved during the events that unfolded, though they'll still responsible somewhat for not managing them properly. Laura Stuart also hints on how she intended this incident with the Amakusa's to gain better control on Kaori, as she is too powerful to handle with violence, Laura states the need for positive reinforcement to control Kaori, such as having the Amakusa join the Necessarius. It is also hinted on how there is also an ulterior motive in saving Orsola Aquinas, as her life is a trivial concern to Laura, though Stiyl doesn't know what the reason is.

Though the Book of the Law would not be deciphered regardless of Orsola's face, the Roman Catholic Church was further weakened due to the events of this arc. With the destruction of their main fighting strengths Gregorian Chant and the Agnese Forces, as well as the Anglican Church gaining the Amakusa Christians, have put the Roman Catholic Church in a vulnerable enough position in allowing Lidvia Lorenzetti to set-up the Croce di Pietro in Academy City, to tip the already crumbling balance between the world's factions into their favor.

[[caption-width:350:Agnese goes to war with the Amakusa Christians]]

[[caption-width-right:300:Laura Stuart smiles at Stiyl Magnus.]]

In the streets of London, Archbishop Laura Stuart, the leader of Necessarius, talks to Stiyl Magnus. Stiyl interrupts her and asks why she's speaking in Japanese and why it sounds so weird (for example, bad grammar). Laura says she asked Motoharu Tsuchimikado to teach her Japanese so she would be able to better communicate with people from Japan like Academy City and now she's practicing. Annoyed, he informs her that Motoharu is definitely not the best source to learn a language from, especially since he lies all the time and enjoys screwing with people.

She gets a little upset, but hands him a paper talisman that allows them to speak telepathically. She gets down to business and asks if he knows about The Book of the Law aka Liber AL vel Legis. He has; it is a grimoire written by Edward Alexander (Creator/AleisterCrowley's real name), and kept in the library archives of UsefulNotes/VaticanCity. It is rumored to be very, very powerful, but no one can decipher it. It is one of the many texts Index Librorum Prohibitorum memorized, but since she cannot understand it, it is of no use to her. However, Orsola Aquinas, a nun from the Roman Catholic Church, has apparently figured out how to decipher it through studying a few sample copied pages. Orsola and the book have both gone missing, and they suspect the Amakusa Catholics are involved somehow. They enter St. George's Cathedral to continue their conversation.

Note: In the light novel, they talk about how the Amakusa Catholics is a small magic cabal in Japan that combines Catholic teachings with aspects of UsefulNotes/{{Buddhism}} and UsefulNotes/{{Shinto}}. Kaori Kanzaki used to be their leader until she joined Necessarius. Kaori is missing as well, and Necessarius is worried that her loyalties lie with her old group. Laura orders Stiyl to go back to Academy City and recruit Index and Touma to help him find Orsola and The Book of the Law. He gets upset. She hands him a cross necklace and asks him to give it to Orsola when he meets her.

[[caption-width-right:270:Sorry maid, but I'm borrowing her.]]

Index talks with Maika Tsuchimikado outside Touma's apartment. Index is annoyed that Touma, Komoe, and Himegami are at school and she can't hang out with them. She asks why Maika isn't at school. Maika reminds her that she is a maid in training, and she's supposed to travel around town cleaning things up and serving people. Index excitedly declares that if she becomes a maid herself, she will be able to visit Touma's school whenever she wants. Maika informs her that being a maid requires a lot of hard work and dedication. Suddenly, Stiyl appears, grabs Index, and leaves before Maika can react.

Touma walks home from school. The city is preparing for the upcoming Daihasei Festival aka Daihaseisai, and he and his class had to help set things up. He muses that because of his amnesia, he will be experiencing the festival for the first time. A distraught Maika appears and asks him why he turned his phone off. She explains what happened and hands him an envelope Stiyl had given her, saying he warned her not to call the authorities and to give the envelope straight to Touma. Inside the envelope is a letter telling Touma to meet him at the Twilight Theater, a small abandoned theater a few kilometers outside Academy City, at 7 PM. After Maika describes the kidnapper, Touma recognizes him as Stiyl and gets annoyed. He tells her not to worry, Stiyl would never harm Index and is just doing a fancy way of getting his attention. The envelope also has permits and documents that would allow Touma to leave the city today. He leaves Sphynx in her care.

At the Twilight Theater, Stiyl fills Index in on the situation. She agrees to help, but gets angry that Necessarius is forcing Touma to get involved when it is a Magic Side situation and should have nothing to do with him. They are joined by another nun.

[[quoteright:247:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/orsola_and_touma_6246.png]]
[[caption-width-right:247:Touma, you lucky bastard...]]

Outside Academy City, Touma starts walking toward the Twilight Theater. He stops to rest at a bus stop and runs into a nun. She asks him which bus goes to Academy City. He explains that there are no buses that go to Academy City, and even if there were, she would need a permit to enter. She seems to be very ditzy because he has to repeat himself several times for her to understand this. She walks up to him and wipes his face with a handkerchief (in the light novel, because he had food crumbs; in the anime, because he was sweaty), making him blush at their close contact. He asks why she wants to go to Academy City, and she says she is being chased and seeks sanctuary. He says she can travel with him while he goes to the Twilight Theater; she will be safe with him, and he's allies with Necessarius, so they can take care of her.

The nun who joined Index and Stiyl introduces herself as Agnese Sanctis. Despite her young age (she's shorter than Index), she's a high-ranking operative of the Roman Catholic Church. Agnese admits that they may have some trouble because they are not familiar with how the Amakusa Catholics' magic works. Index has some knowledge of them. Due to blending three religions together, most of their spells are improvised, so they can use almost any household item as a medium for a spell. Most members are well versed in martial arts and swordsmanship. Unlike most other Magic Side characters, they wear casual clothing instead of uniforms or magical garments. Their conversation is interrupted when they see Touma and his new friend approaching.

Touma angrily berates Stiyl for pretending to kidnap Index and forcing him to walk all the way out here. Can't he just ask him for help like a normal person? Stiyl brushes this off and thanks him for ending their mission early. The nun with him is Orsola Aquinas, the person they were looking for. Touma says they're not done and asks Stiyl to apologize for dragging him all the way out here, but Stiyl rudely takes a drag of his cigarette and blows smoke in his face, making him cough. He orders Touma to hand Orsola over to them. However, when Orsola sees Agnese, she gets scared and backs away. Suddenly, a small balloon floats near them, and a voice comes from it saying Orsola is coming with them. Three swords burst through the concrete around Orsola and saw around her, causing her to fall into a dark hole. Touma tries to follow her, but Index stops him, pointing out he would have been skewered. Stiyl prepares a fireball, but the people in the hole are suddenly gone.

[[caption-width-right:300:The Knights of England arrive.]]

Meanwhile, a squad of twenty-one knights crawl out of the sea. They start to walk up the beach when Kaori Kanzaki arrives. They immediately attack her on sight, but she moves at supersonic speed and defeats them all with about one hit each. Each blow is hard enough to send them flying or embed them into the ground. She thanks them for wearing such sturdy armor, allowing her to hold back enough to avoid killing them. Motoharu meets her and says he is neither an enemy nor an ally for her at this point. They talk about her recent trip to England and wonder why the Knights of England were here.

While Agnese gathers her troops, Stiyl and Index fill Touma in on the situation. The Book of the Law is rumored to give the user power similar to angels, so they should rescue Orsola before her captors force her to translate it. Touma asks why the book wasn't destroyed if it is so dangerous, but they tell him a grimoire cannot be destroyed. The best you can hope for is to seal it away.

Agnese moves to join them, but trips and falls. She grabs Touma to steady herself, but ends up pulling him down and causing him to look up her skirt. She freaks out, while Index yells at him and Stiyl kicks him, accusing him of being a pervert. After that mess is over, they get down to business. Index says that based on the Amakusa's known patterns, they will hold Orsola somewhere and then use the spell Miniaturized Pilgrimage to teleport away to a safe distance. Fortunately, the spell can only be performed around midnight, and the spell can only take you between any one of 47 points on the map Dai Nihon Enkai Yochi Zenzu, written by Tadataka Ino. Touma is amazed and thinks this Tadataka Ino must have been a great magician to come up with something like this. Everyone looks at him like he's an idiot. Tadataka Ino (he's a real person) is a Japanese surveyor and cartographer who made the first map of Japan. The Miniaturized Pilgrimage spell is merely based on his legendary map. Agnese comments that she's Italian and she knows all about him, and Touma must be a slacker to not know his own country's history.

Index uses the GPS map function on Touma's phone to show them the closest point on the map. Around midnight, the Amakusa Catholics will go there and use the spell to travel to another point. Everyone agrees to rest until 11 PM and then head to the point and intercept the Amakusas.

Touma, Index, Stiyl, Agnese, and her troops, about 250 warrior nuns, have dinner and then set up tents to bathe and take a nap before the anticipated time. Touma hears a scream coming from a tent and rushes in without thinking, but it turns out Index and Agnese were bathing together and Agnese screamed because she saw a slug crawling near her. Of course, for seeing them naked, Index bites him.

[[quoteright:220:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/220px-agnese_surprise_4012.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:220:You lucky, lucky bastard!]]

Touma and Stiyl share a tent. Stiyl had wanted to share Index's tent, but she refused, so he settled for surrounding her tent with his rune cards, just in case. The two boys chat for a bit. Touma asks Stiyl what he would do if Kaori really is on the Amakusa Catholics' side. Stiyl replies that his true loyalty is to Index and Index alone. He once swore to her, "Even if you forget everything, I'll remember it forever. I'll live for you, and die for you." He will destroy anybody who opposes her, even his friend Kaori Kanzaki. In fact, he would kill Touma in an instant if he ever turned against Index. They go to sleep.

Touma's rest is short-lived when he feels something on his chest. He opens his eyes and is horrified to find Agnese in her underwear on top of him. She's still asleep, and cuddles against him while muttering something about her father. He slowly tries to inch her off him, but Index enters the tent. She's sleepwalking and mutters that since she's in a dream, she can do anything she wants. She bites him.

Meanwhile, at Parallel Sweets Park, a theme park now closed for the night, Saiji Tatemiya, the leader of the Amakusa Catholics, watches over an unconscious, bound and gagged Orsola. His colleague Itsuwa reports that the Miniaturized Pilgrimage spell is almost ready. He smiles and draws his sword. He dramatically swings it a few times and declares that he will show how much the Amakusa Catholics have improved after he took over as leader from Kaori.

The heroes gather around Parallel Sweets Park. Agnese says the plan is for her and her forces to engage the Amakusa Catholics while Touma, Index, and Stiyl sneak in and recover Orsola and The Book of the Law. They are to retreat if they don't succeed by five minutes to midnight. Stiyl is a little uncomfortable about this plan, but agrees. The trio separates from Agnese and enters the park.

Now alone, Touma voices his doubts about whether they can really pull this off in such a short amount of time. Stiyl agrees, and says he doesn't trust the Roman Catholic Church that much, so he neglected to tell them about Kaori being AWOL and possibly helping the Amakusas. Touma suggests they focus on recovering Orsola and not The Book of the Law. Index and Stiyl agree. After all, without Orsola, the grimoire will be useless to the Amakusas.

An explosion occurs and they realize the battle has begun. They get ambushed by some Amakusas, but manage to evade them. Stiyl hands Touma the cross necklace Laura gave him and tells him not to lose it. Stiyl suddenly grabs Index and uses an illusion spell to disappear, leaving Touma alone with three Amakusas. He gets angry that Stiyl used him as a decoy once again.

Touma runs and manages to lose two of his pursuers, but gets attacked by the third one, a girl wielding a dress sword. After evading her attacks for a bit, he pulls a tube of grease out of a nearby toolbox and throws it. She instinctively slashes it, but this makes the grease splatter into her eyes, blinding her. He tackles her and knocks her out. He leaves her there and carries her sword with him.

Eventually, Touma runs into Orsola, who had managed to run away from her captors despite still being bound and gagged. He touches her restraints with his Imagine Breaker and destroys them. She is amazed and asks how he did that, but he shrugs and says it is a long story. She asks what he is doing here, and he says he and his friends came to save her. She pouts a little and says he must obviously be doing this for her knowledge of The Book of the Law, but he retorts that he couldn't care less about some old book, he's here to save ''her''. This makes her very happy, and she thanks him. A few Amakusas show up, so the two hide behind a pillar. They quietly chat while waiting for the coast to be clear, and she wipes the sweat off his face with her handkerchief again. He remembers the cross necklace Stiyl gave him and says she should have it, since he's an atheist and it is meaningless to him. She agrees and asks him to put it on her, but when he does, she closes her eyes and tries to kiss him. He very nervously avoids her lips. Afterwards, he asks her why she studied The Book of the Law. She reveals that she knew how dangerous it was, and hoped to understand it so she could use that knowledge to find a way to destroy it and prevent anyone else from learning how to read it in the future.

Suddenly, Stiyl falls from a roof and crashes to the ground, hard. Touma and Orsola are horrified, but he tells them to run and not worry about him. It's too late, Tatemiya appears. He tells Orsola to come with him and she will not be harmed, but she refuses. He notices the sword Touma took and gets a little angry, saying it belongs to his good friend Uragami. Touma assures him that he didn't kill her, he just knocked her out. Touma tries to talk their way to a peaceful solution, but Tatemiya attacks. Touma decides not to use Uragami's sword, reasoning that it would just hinder him because he has no swordsmanship training. Index appears and warns Touma that Tatemiya's sword is a normal blade, so his Imagine Breaker won't have any effect on it. Tatemiya uses a combination of sword strikes and magical attacks, forcing Touma on the defensive. Eventually, Touma gets an idea and tells Stiyl to launch a fireball at them both. He complies. Tatemiya laughs and casts an anti-fire shield spell, but Touma suddenly catches the fireball with his right hand and extinguishes it. Tatemiya is so shocked by the sight that he can't react in time before Touma punches him in the face. Stiyl and Touma then tackle him together and knock him out.

After a few minutes, the rest of the Amakusa Catholics are defeated and rounded up, with no casualties on either side. Tatemiya is tied up with runes placed on his body to prevent him from trying to escape. Stiyl takes Orsola to see Agnese. Index suddenly starts frantically touching and looking Touma over, asking if he is injured. When he says he isn't, she bites him. He asks what the Hell she did that for, and she says she was so worried and he had to be out of his mind to take on a swordsman barehanded.

Tatemiya wakes up and begs them to let him go. They tell him no way, but he says they don't understand. The Roman Catholic Church is going to ''kill'' Orsola because they saw her as dangerous and wanted to stop her from translating The Book of the Law. The Book of the Law was never stolen in the first place, and the Roman Catholic Church just accused them of doing that to frame them and get Necessarius on their side. This whole time, the Amakusas were trying to get Orsola away from them to save her life. Touma asks if that is true, why did they kidnap her? He says the Amakusas tried to explain themselves to her, but she wouldn't believe them. He sadly reminisces about the time Kaori Kanzaki was their leader. She taught them to always do the right thing, even if there is no reward. Because she was a Saint, her power eclipsed theirs several times over, so they couldn't fight alongside her on the battlefield. They would get severely injured, while she was unharmed. She couldn't take it anymore and left them for Necessarius. Even after she left, he endeavored to make sure his organization followed her example, and did the right thing.

[[quoteright:248:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lucia_and_angelene_422.png]]
[[caption-width-right:248:Lucia and Angelene.]]

They hear Orsola screaming in the distance and realize with horror that Tatemiya is telling the truth. Tatemiya begs them to get Orsola away from them, no matter what it takes. Two of Agnese's subordinates, Sister Lucia and Sister Angeline, approach and say they are here to take Tatemiya into custody. Touma asks them where Orsola is, but they say that is none of their concern. Touma gently brushes against Lucia's shoulder, and she goes berserk, saying the "heathen monkey" will pay for daring to touch her. She causes the carriage wheel she carries to explode. Touma shields himself with his left arm, and it gets embedded by the wooden shrapnel. Angelene asks if she's gone nuts, but Lucia tells her to quit gawking and help her kill them. The shrapnel painfully flies out of Touma's arm and returns to Lucia, reforming into an intact carriage wheel. Angelene reluctantly uses a spell to control several pouches of coins (she comments they represent the coins of Matthew the Tax Collector) and use them as homing projectiles. Fortunately, Index uses her Spell Intercept to take control of the money pouches and turn them against the two nuns. A whistle sounds, and Lucia says it is a signal for them to retreat, so Lucia and Angelene run away.

Stiyl rejoins them and they untie Tatemiya. They remember that Orsola was scared of Agnese and berate themselves for brushing that from their minds at the time. As they discuss their present course of action, Stiyl and Tatemiya reveal that the Roman Catholic Church can't execute Orsola right away because she has technically committed no sins. However, they will subject her to various Trials of Sin to force her to "confess" to a sin. Once she does, they will be free to kill her. Tatemiya says then they have no time to waste and runs off. Touma prepares to join him, but Stiyl says this isn't their problem anymore. Touma protests, but Stiyl is adamant. He asks Touma where the cross necklace he gave him is, and he answers that Orsola is wearing it. Nonetheless, Stiyl says Necessarius has nothing to gain from interfering in the Roman Catholic Church's affairs, so he's leaving. He walks away and tells Touma to take Index home.

Touma dejectedly walks with Index down the road to Academy City. She tells him to quit worrying. Tatemiya can save her on his own. She says she can't understand why he feels the need to get involved with other people's problems when he has no obligation to do so and he will not gain anything from it. However, Touma makes up his mind and runs back.

Inside a church, ironically one that was built in Orsola Aquinas' name, Agnese and her forces take turns beating the crap out of Orsola. Her clothes are torn and she's covered with bruises. Agnese reveals her psychotic side, and says that the Roman Catholic Church is the only true Christian religion. Every other version, including Necessarius, will eventually be destroyed. However, no matter how much pain she is in, Orsola refuses to "confess", curse God for her suffering, or even blame the heroes for accidentally turning her in. She even smiles at Agnese and says she forgives her for this. Agnese gets really angry and takes it as an insult, continuing the beating.

Suddenly, they detect that the magical barrier surrounding the building is gone, and wonder what could have happened. Touma kicks the front doors open and marches in. Agnese says he has to be out of his mind to try to take on all 250 of them his own, but Touma runs up and punches her, sending her flying, though her comrades catch her. Touma roars at them not to take him for a fool. There's a girl in danger, and the only true decision is to save her.

[[caption-width-right:250:Way to make an entrance.]]

Agnese's forces prepare to attack, but Stiyl bursts in with an explosion of flames. Agnese angrily asks him why ''he's'' interfering. He says that since Orsola is wearing a cross necklace from Archbishop Laura Stuart herself, she is a member of Necessarius and the Anglican Church. Necessarius takes care of their own, so they can't allow her to be harmed any longer. Tatemiya walks in as well along with the freed Amakusa Catholics, saying that since his group and Necessarius have the same objective, they will be working together. Index walks in and says Touma is an idiot for getting involved again, but now that they are here, they might as well save Orsola. Agnese shouts to her forces to kill them all.

Stiyl, Index, and the Amakusas engage Agnese's forces while Touma picks Orsola up bridal style and carries her away. Some of the battle nuns block his path, but Itsuwa knocks them out of the way with her spear. He thanks her and runs out of the building.

Meanwhile, Kaori and Motoharu watch the action from a nearby roof. She expresses her pride at how much the Amakusas have improved since she's been away, and feels they don't need her help after all.

Touma runs while carrying Orsola. Agnese's forces constantly try to stop him, using a combination of medieval weapons and spells. The Amakusas constantly run interference, but an explosion eventually knocks Touma and Orsola up to a roof. He asks if she is okay, and she says she is, but he looks at her injuries, including ''footprints'' where Agnese and her girls stomped on her, and gets angry.

[[caption-width-right:270:Listen to this!]]

Index gets surrounded by some battle nuns. Tatemiya attempts to help, but Stiyl tells him to stay back and watch. Index starts singing, which creates a wave of energy that blows her attackers away. The nuns start clutching their ears and screaming in pain. Stiyl explains that she is casting Sheol Fear, a song that points out all the contradictions in Christianity. To people who don't take their beliefs ''that'' seriously, it is not that bad, but to fanatics like Agnese's forces, it is pure torture.

Inside the church, Agnese discusses the battle with a few subordinates. She says they may be at a disadvantage now, but they will win in the end.

A second wave of battle nuns lead by Sister Lucia confronts Index. She prepares to cast Sheol Fear again, but Lucia declares that they will do anything to win and defeat the enemies of God. To everybody's horror, they stick fountain pens into their ears and break their own eardrums. Blood streams from their ears. Now that they are deaf, Sheol Fear cannot affect them.

Stiyl and Tatemiya rush in to defend her. Fortunately, Touma and Orsola open a nearby door and tell the three to come in. They run in and shut the door, while the nuns start hacking away at it with their weapons. Orsola tells Touma he can put her down now as she's well enough to walk. They lament being stuck in this room while the Amakusas fight for their lives. Orsola suggests getting The Book of the Law and using it as a bargaining chip, but Tatemiya reminds them that the book is still in Vatican City. Index and Touma remind them that she memorized the book, so Orsola can tell her the translation method. They would then ''threaten'' to use the great spells within on Agnese's forces to make them stand down.

Stiyl protests, saying that if Index could understand the book, she would become even more of a target to greedy magicians. He finally agrees when he makes Touma swear to protect her from anyone no matter what. Orsola tells Index her translation method, which involves a mathematical formula to replace the letters and numbers with others. Index pictures the book in her head and applies the formula, but it is still gibberish. She sadly informs them that Orsola's method only worked for the sample, unimportant pages, and each section of the book may require a different method. Orsola becomes depressed that all her hard work was for nothing. Tatemiya points out that the Roman Catholic Church now has no reason to kill her, but Stiyl reminds him that they're nuts and won't care. The battle nuns finally break down the door, and they are forced to run for the back exit.

Agnese stands alone in the church when Touma walks in. She laughs and assumes that he abandoned Orsola and the others to save himself, but he says he entrusted her to his friends, while they trusted him to find the leader and defeat her. She calls him a fool, and says that her forces won't stop fighting just because she is taken down. She draws her weapon, the Lotus Wand, a metal staff with a metal lotus on one end. He prepares to fight, but she suddenly hits the wand against a pillar. He gets confused, then screams as he takes an unseen hit. She hits the wand against things, and he takes quite a beating. Then she pulls out a knife and starts scratching the wand with it, and several cuts appear on Touma's body. He's able to dodge some of the hits, but he still takes a lot of damage. He realizes that the wand is acting like a voodoo doll. She confirms this, but says knowing how it works won't save him. He calls her a hypocrite for saying she and her forces are people of God, yet they have done so many unspeakable acts like torturing Orsola. She retorts that heathens like him and people who follow other religions like the Amakusas are undeserving of God's grace and deserve to die. He suddenly charges forward. Shocked, she uses the wand, but he sticks his right hand in front of him and destroys the invisible attack. Then he blasts her with an uppercut, sending her flying.

As she lies on the floor, she has a flashback to when she was homeless in the streets of Milan, Italy. She gets up and declares she has power now and is never going back. She notices that it is quiet outside and gloats that Touma's comrades have lost. However, he smiles and says she is wrong.

The front doors burst open and Touma's comrades walk in, along with a gigantic Innocentius. Stiyl thanks the Amakusas for working together to spread ''4,300'' rune cards around the area in a pentagram pattern to maximize the effects of his spell. They reveal that about half of Agnese's forces are unconscious, while the other half are too terrified of Innocentius to move, shocking her. Touma declares it is over and knocks her out with a punch. At this sight, her remaining forces lay down their arms and surrender. Touma then passes out from his injuries.

Touma wakes up his usual hospital room to find Kaori Kanzaki sitting near his bed. She had been intending to leave him a letter, but now that he's awake, she snatches it away, embarrassed.

Note: In the light novel, Kaori says that Stiyl visited him earlier, but left Academy City because he tried to buy cigarettes, but couldn't because the cashiers could tell that he's only 14 (yeah, I don't get how that's possible either). Touma asks why she didn't just buy them for him, but she says she's only 18. He's shocked and says all this time, he assumed she was in her thirties or forties, and she gets pissed that he thought she was old.

Kaori explains that Orsola Aquinas and the Amakusa Catholics were integrated into Necessarius and the Anglican Church, preventing the Roman Catholic Church from targeting them any longer. They spread the word that Orsola's translation method doesn't actually work, which will stop greedy magicians from targeting her. She suddenly bows and apologizes to him.

Touma asks what she's apologizing for, but Motoharu walks in, carrying a bag of snacks. When he sees her, he gets excited and asks if Kaori is repaying her debt to Touma by offering her body. She gets really angry and embarrassed, says she was doing no such thing, and tells him to get out. He puts the bag down and leaves. Touma tells Kaori to calm down; he's learned by now that Motoharu really enjoys screwing with people. She tells him she's apologizing for getting him dragged into other people's conflicts and getting hurt. The Amakusas were her people and she should have stepped in right away instead of watching while he solved the problem even though it had nothing to do with him. He says that's enough. He doesn't care about the different sides. He helps people because it is the right thing to do and he wants to. In fact, even though Agnese was his enemy, if she were ever in trouble in the future, he'd help her in a heartbeat. Kaori muses that Touma is so strange, but smiles.

In the streets of London, Stiyl and Laura talk. The Roman Catholic Church was disgraced by Agnese and her force's failure, so they claimed that they had gone renegade and were not acting under their orders to save face. Laura knew the truth of the situation all along, and didn't tell Stiyl or the others. Saving Orsola was irrelevant to her; her main goal was to integrate the Amakusa Catholics into Necessarius, giving her added firepower and making sure Kaori would never have an incentive to leave them, now that her loved ones are part of the organization. In the light novel, she also explains that she was the one who asked the Knights of England to attack Kaori, knowing they would fail, thus making them look incompetent and elevating Necessarius' worth in the eyes of the Queen of England. She thanks him for going beyond her expectations by saving Orsola and humiliating the Roman Catholic Church as a bonus and walks away. Stiyl digests how easily he and the others were played and calls Laura a bitch.

In
Magnus thinks it is a rational decision for the streets Amakusa Christians to regain power using the Book of London, the Law after Kaori left them. The Roman Catholics sent out one of their main fighting strengths, Agnese Forces, which consists of 250 battle nuns, to execute the mission.

The Anglican Church however, was allowed to aid the Roman Catholic Church's in their effort to capture her Orsola Aquinas, at the insistence of
Archbishop Laura Stuart, the leader Stuart. Kanzaki Kaori, a Saint and a member of Necessarius, talks to Stiyl Magnus. Stiyl interrupts her has recently went missing during the incident, and asks why she's speaking in Japanese and why it sounds so weird (for example, bad grammar). Laura says she asked Motoharu Tsuchimikado to teach her Japanese so she would be able to better communicate with people from Japan like Academy City and now she's practicing. Annoyed, he informs her is presumed that Motoharu is she will act on her own accord in order to aid her former comrades, the Amakusa Christians, as such problems will definitely not arise if a Saint would intervene, as such the best source Archbishop wants to learn a language from, especially since he lies all defuse the time situation before Kaori does anything troublesome. Laura Stuart sends out Stiyl Magnus to retrieve Index and enjoys screwing her guardian, Kamijou Touma to aid with people.

the mission of rescuing Orsola Aquinas with the Roman Catholic Forces. Laura also instructs Stiyl to give a cross to Orsola Aquinas when the opportunity arise.

Orsola Aquinas is a Roman Catholic Church nun, who is famed for spreading the word of the gospel in three pagan countries and has a church named after her.
She gets a little upset, but hands him a paper talisman that allows them has been reported to speak telepathically. She gets down have found a way to business and asks if he knows about The decipher the Book of the Law aka Liber AL vel Legis. He has; it is a grimoire written by Edward Alexander (Creator/AleisterCrowley's real name), and kept in the library archives of UsefulNotes/VaticanCity. It is rumored to be very, very powerful, but no one can decipher it. It is one (a book not even Index nor Sherry Cromwell could decode), using incomplete copies of the many texts Index Librorum Prohibitorum memorized, but since book. The reason being, is that she cannot understand it, it is wants to find a way to destroy grimoires as she sees that nothing good can truly be gained from the power of no use to her. However, grimoires.

Because of her capability of deciphering the Book of the Law,
Orsola Aquinas, a nun from was targeted by the Roman Catholic Church, has apparently figured out how to decipher it through studying a few sample copied pages. Orsola and was forced to go to Japan, a country where the book have both gone missing, and they suspect the Amakusa Catholics are involved somehow. They enter St. George's Cathedral to continue their conversation.

Note: In the light novel, they talk about how the Amakusa Catholics is a small magic cabal in Japan that combines
Roman Catholic teachings with aspects of UsefulNotes/{{Buddhism}} Church had no power over, and UsefulNotes/{{Shinto}}. Kaori Kanzaki used to be their leader until she joined Necessarius. Kaori is missing as well, and Necessarius is worried that her loyalties lie with her old group. Laura orders Stiyl to go back to Academy City and recruit Index and Touma to help him find Orsola and The Book seek the protection of the Law. He gets upset. She hands him a cross necklace and asks him to give it to Orsola when he meets her.

Meanwhile, several members of the Knights of England swam from England all the way to Japan, in an effort to solve the situation on their own due to political turmoil between the Knights and the Church, by disobeying the orders of Laura Stuart to assist the retrieval of Orsola Aquinas and the Book of the Law and instead simply kill all the Amakusa Christians, regardless of the relationship it has
with Maika the Church or the Roman Catholics, as it does not affect Britain. However, they are later attacked by Kanzaki Kaori and were easily decimated in a matter of seconds. Tsuchimikado outside Touma's apartment. Index is annoyed Motoharu, a operative and a spy for various organizations, was mobilized as well by an unknown faction to retrieve the Book of the Law when the Roman Catholic Church and the Amakusa Christians are to fight.

!!!Plight of the Roman Catholic Nun

Before the events of the arc took place, Orsola Aquinas escaped from the Amakusa Christians during a confrontation with the Roman Catholic Church (no casualties were reported in both sides), believing
that Touma, Komoe, and Himegami are at school and she can't hang out with them. they had ulterior motives (specifically to seek the power of the Book of the Law) instead of just protecting her. She asks why Maika isn't at school. Maika reminds her that she is a maid later enters Eastern Tokyo, to seek refuge in training, and she's supposed to travel around town cleaning things up and serving people.

Inside the envelope is a letter telling Touma to meet him at the Twilight Theater, a small abandoned theater a few kilometers outside
Academy City, at 7 PM. After Maika describes an enemy of the kidnapper, Touma recognizes him as Magic Side.

As ordered by Laura Stuart,
Stiyl Magnus went to Academy City and gets annoyed. He tells her not to worry, Stiyl would never harm 'kidnapped' Index and is just doing a fancy way of getting his attention. The envelope also has permits and documents that would allow Touma to leave the city today. He leaves Sphynx in as an excuse for her care.

At the Twilight Theater, Stiyl fills Index in on the situation. She agrees to help, but gets angry that Necessarius is forcing
guardian, Kamijou Touma to get involved when it as well since he is a Magic Side part of the Science side, though according to Index this unneccessary as Touma would come to his aid even if he did not ask. As instructed by Stiyl, Touma leaves Academy City to rendezvous with him and Index in Hakumeiza. They later meet up with the leader of the Roman Catholic Church faction assigned for this mission, Agnese Sanctis. Here, they discuss the situation and should have nothing regarding the Amakusa Christians, while waiting for Touma to do with him. They are joined by another nun.

Kamijou
Touma starts walking toward the Twilight Theater. He stops to rest meets Orsola Aquinas at a bus stop and runs into a nun. She asks him which bus goes en route to the rendezvous point, not knowing of her significance. Here, he convinces her that she cannot go in to Academy City. He explains City using buses, as well as the fact that there are she has no buses entry permit. After, Orsola tells Touma him that go to Academy City, and even if there were, she would need a permit to enter. She seems to be very ditzy because he has to repeat himself several times for her to understand this. She walks up to him and wipes his face with a handkerchief (in the light novel, because he had food crumbs; in the anime, because he was sweaty), making him blush at their close contact. He asks why she wants to go to Academy City, and she says she is being chased hunted, he decides that it would be wise to bring her to Index. After arriving at Hakumeiza, Touma discovers the reason for why he and seeks sanctuary. He says she can travel with him while he goes to the Twilight Theater; she will be safe with him, and he's allies with Necessarius, so they can take care of her.

The nun who joined
Index and Stiyl introduces herself as Agnese Sanctis. Despite her young age (she's shorter than Index), she's a high-ranking operative of were called upon – to help aid the Roman Catholic Church. Agnese admits Church secure the Book of the Law and Orsola Aquinas. Stiyl says that they may have some trouble because Touma has fulfilled his purpose, as he has brought Orsola Aquinas to them and can now hand her over to the Roman Catholic Church, though irritates Touma a little for his careless disregard for his well-being. Orsola's reaction to this is negative, as she slightly trembles, though Touma, Stiyl and Index are unable to understand why.

However,
they are not familiar with how later disturbed by the arrival of the Amakusa Catholics' magic works. Their conversation is interrupted when they see Christians, who abduct Orsola Aquinas from beneath her feet. Touma and his new friend approaching.

Touma angrily berates
Stiyl for pretending try to kidnap Index retaliate and forcing him to walk all the way out here. Can't he just ask him for help like a normal person? Stiyl brushes this off and thanks him for ending their mission early. The nun with him is Orsola Aquinas, the person get her back they were looking for. Touma tries to follow her, but Index stops him, pointing out he would are too late, as they have been skewered. Stiyl prepares a fireball, but the people already escaped in the hole are suddenly gone.

Meanwhile,
Orsola Aquinas by the Amakusa Christians, Agnese gathered her forces at Hakumeiza, analyzing the current situation with the Amakusa Christians, and has set up a squad perimeter with a radius of twenty-one knights crawl out 10 kilometers to detect them, thinning their forces. Though such a large perimeter was later unneeded; using the vast knowledge of Index, specifically her knowledge on the Amakusa Christians, and their use of Great Japanese Coastal Map to use one of the sea. They start 47 portals in Japan, she was able to walk up pin-point the beach most probable location where the Amakusa Christians are and when Kaori Kanzaki arrives. They immediately attack they would be able to use the portal, which is at the Parallel Sweets Park. With a large gap between the current time before their mobilization against the Amakusa, the Agnese Forces prepare their weapons and themselves for the ensuing battle ahead; as such Touma and Stiyl decided to sleep, here Touma discovers that Stiyl will still fight even against Kaori, just to protect Index, though he would have preferred not involving her on sight, but she moves in the situation at supersonic speed and defeats them all all.

Around the time of their preparation (before sleeping), Kamijou Touma gets into various perverted mishaps
with about one hit each. Each blow is hard enough Agnese Sanctis due to send them flying or embed them into the ground. She thanks them for wearing his misfortune, such sturdy armor, allowing as getting to see her to hold back enough to avoid killing them. The
Agnese gathers her troops, Forces, along with Touma, Stiyl and Index fill Touma are later mobilized in the upcoming assault on the situation. The Amakusa Christians, though with still lesser forces, as Agnese have not recalled her patrolling forces as a precaution. Agnese assigns Touma, Stiyl and Index, to investigate the park and find Orsola Aquinas, the Book of the Law, and destroy the portal, while she and her forces take on the Amakusa Christians. Touma later asks Stiyl to prioritize in finding Orsola, as their tight schedule will not allow them to find the Book of the Law, and destroy the portal as well; Stiyl and Index agrees on this, as the Book of the Law is rumored would be useless if to give the user power similar to angels, so them if they should rescue didn't have Orsola before her captors force her to translate it.

Around midnight,
decipher its contents.

Meanwhile,
the Amakusa Catholics will go there Christians having seized Orsola Aquinas from Roman Catholic hands, have infiltrated Parallel Sweets Park and are preparing the ritual to use the portal. Though the Amakusa Christians prepared a spell to travel to another point. Everyone agrees to rest until 11 PM and then head to repel passers-by, they're are unaware of the point and intercept upcoming assault by the Amakusas.

Roman Catholics.

The battle began at 11:30; with the sounds of battle are heard from afar,
Touma, Index, Stiyl, Agnese, and her troops, about 250 warrior nuns, have dinner and then set up tents Index enter Parallel Sweets Park to bathe and take a nap before find Orsola Aquinas. Immediately after entering the anticipated time. park, they are attacked by several members of Amakusa, which forces Stiyl to escape with Index after handing the cross – the one that Laura Stuart gave to him for Orsola Aquinas – to Touma. Severely outnumbered, Touma hears is forced to withdraw and hide. His cover is blown almost immediately afterwards by a scream coming poorly placed toolbox, which attracts the attention of one of the Amakusas. Thinking quickly, Touma uses a tube of grease towards his pursuer, momentarily disabling her ability to attack him, though this gives Touma enough of an opening and easily take her down using a tackle; Touma later taks her weapon (a dress sword) away from a tent her.

Orsola later bumps into Touma, having escaped from the Amakusa Christians during the ensuing chaos of battle. After Touma frees her from her bounds, Orsola confirms that Touma is the one who helped her at the bus stop earlier,
and rushes asks him what he's doing in without thinking, but it turns out Index a dangerous place, to which Touma responds that he is rescuing her, and Agnese were bathing together has nothing to do with the Book of the Law or the Roman Catholic Church at all (since he is allied with the Anglican Church and Agnese screamed because she saw a slug crawling near by their request, aid the Roman Catholic Church), which somewhat relieves Orsola, though advises Touma not to get involved with the magic side. Touma later gives the cross necklace Stiyl gave to him to Orsola, who was rather enthustiastic in receiving it, and had Touma put it on her. Of course, for seeing them naked, Index bites him.

[[quoteright:220:http://static.
Touma also asks why Orsola Aquinas wanted to decipher the Book of the Law in the first place, to which she replies is that she could gain power to destroy it.

The calm is interrupted by
an unconscious, bound and gagged Orsola. His colleague Itsuwa reports that explosion, as Touma sees Stiyl fall before Tatemiya Saiji, the Miniaturized Pilgrimage spell is almost ready. He smiles and draws his sword. He dramatically swings it a few times and declares that he will show how much current proxy-leader of the Amakusa Christians holding a flamberge. Touma is forced to battle Tatemiya, as he intends to take back Orsola Aquinas from the Roman Catholics have improved after he took over as leader well as from Kaori.

The heroes gather around Parallel Sweets Park. Agnese says
the plan Anglican Church, even though Touma is for her unsure himself that Saiji would be using magic or not, as Saiji not using magic would put him in a great disadvantage and her forces would make his Imagine Breaker useless.
Touma battles Tatemiya despite his clear advantage with a weapon in hand, though Touma manages by reading his attacks, and is able
to engage dodge. However, he is later tricked into thinking that Saiji was actually using magic; even with Index's warnings, she was too late as Touma was already hit by one of Saiji's attacks. At the Amakusa same as this, Stiyl has already recovered and prepare his fire sword to attack Saiji, though Touma was in the way, he urged Stiyl to attack Saiji regardless.

According to reports, there were no fatalities in both sides, and with the Roman
Catholics while Touma, Index, restraining the defeated Amakusa's as well. However, their rest is interrupted by Saiji's request of letting him go. Though both Touma and Stiyl sneak in and recover Index are wary of him, Touma gives Saiji a chance to explain himself.

Saiji explains that
Orsola and The will be killed by the Roman Catholics since she can decipher the Book of the Law. They are to retreat if they don't succeed by five minutes to midnight. Stiyl is a little uncomfortable about this plan, but agrees. The trio separates from Agnese Law, and enters that would mean the park.

Now alone, Touma voices his doubts about whether they can really pull this off in such a short amount of time. Stiyl agrees,
age ruled by the cross would end, and says he doesn't trust since the Roman Catholic Church is the largest Christian sect in the world, they would have no power. Saiji states that much, so he neglected they were trying to tell them about Kaori protect her from them, as she sought their protection, being AWOL and possibly helping the Amakusas. Touma suggests they focus on recovering Orsola and not The local Christian group; he continues by saying that the Roman Catholic Church has lied that the Book of the Law. Index and Stiyl agree. After Law has been stolen. Touma questions why Orsola Aquinas ran away from them in the first place if they were protecting them, to which Saiji answers that, Orsola Aquinas is like Kamijou Touma as she could not trust them completely, believing that their reason for protecting her was to gain the power of the Book of the Law, but in reality there was no reason at all, without Orsola, the grimoire will be useless to the Amakusas.

An explosion occurs
and they realize the battle has begun. They get ambushed by some Amakusas, but manage just wanted to evade them. Stiyl hands protect her as what their Supreme Pontiff would do, Kanzaki Kaori. Realizing his sincerity, Touma became suspicious of the cross necklace Laura gave him and tells him not to lose it.

Touma's worries were not unfounded as he hears Orsola's scream from afar, and later the arrival of two nuns (Lucia and Angelene)

Overwhelmed by the surprise attack, Touma is helpless as with Saiji unable to do anything being bound restrained, however, Index is able to hijack and gagged. The both of them are later forced to stop their attack, as they were signaled to pull back.

Following the capture of Orsola Aquinas, Stiyl, Touma
and asks how he did that, but he shrugs and says Index regrouped, exchanging information with Saiji. Since it is Roman Catholic Church matters, the Anglican Church cannot interfere, otherwise it would cause a long story. She asks what he is doing here, and he says he and his friends came conflict between the two sects, much to save her. She pouts Touma's annoyance.

Saiji however, tries to relieve Touma
a little and says he must obviously be doing this for her knowledge of The Book of the Law, but he retorts by saying that he couldn't care less about some old book, he's here will try to rescue his comrades and save ''her''. This makes her very happy, Orsola afterwards, as it is the specialty of the Amakusa Christians to challenge large forces, and she thanks him. A few Amakusas show up, so the two hide behind a pillar. Stiyl then asks if Touma has the cross necklace Stiyl he gave him and says she should have it, since he's an atheist and it is meaningless earlier, to him. She agrees and asks him to put it on her, but when he does, she closes her eyes and tries to kiss him. He very nervously avoids her lips. Afterwards, he asks her why she studied The Book of the Law. She reveals which Touma responds that she knew how dangerous he has given it was, and hoped to understand it so she could use that knowledge to find a way to destroy it and prevent anyone else from learning how to read it in the future.

Here, they mercilessly beat Orsola Aquinas to come the point her legs are completely blackened with him bruises and she will not be harmed, but she refuses. He notices cannot walk. Agnese mock the sword Touma took Anglican Church and gets a little angry, saying it belongs to his good friend Uragami.

After a few minutes, the rest of
the Amakusa Catholics are defeated and rounded up, with no casualties on either side. Tatemiya is tied up with runes placed on his body to prevent him from trying to escape. Stiyl takes Christians for being easily tricked into helping them regain Orsola. This relieves Orsola to see Agnese. Index suddenly starts frantically touching and looking Touma over, asking if he is injured. When he says he isn't, somewhat, as she bites him. He asks what the Hell she did believed that for, and she says she was so worried and he had to be out of his mind to take on a swordsman barehanded.

Tatemiya wakes up and begs them to let him go. They tell him no way, but he says
they don't understand. The Roman Catholic Church is going to ''kill'' Orsola because they saw handed her as dangerous to Agnese knowing that she would be executed, and wanted goes on to stop her from translating The Book of the Law. The Book of the Law was never stolen in the first place, and explain on how they, the Roman Catholic Church just accused them of doing that to frame them and get Necessarius Church's actions are based on lies, while the ones who helped her do so through their side. This whole time, the Amakusas were trying to get trust in their beliefs and ideals. Agnese scoffs at this and says that Orsola away from should blame them to save for handing her life. Touma asks if out to them in the first place. Though, Orsola states that is true, why did they kidnap her? He says the Amakusas she could never hate those who tried to explain themselves to save her, but she wouldn't believe them. He sadly reminisces about believing that what they were doing was the time Kaori Kanzaki was their leader. She taught them to always do the right thing, best for her, even if there is no reward. Because she was a Saint, her power eclipsed theirs several times over, so though they couldn't fight alongside her on the battlefield. They would get severely injured, while she was unharmed. She couldn't take it anymore and left them for Necessarius. Even after she left, he endeavored had no reason to make sure his organization followed her example, and did the right thing.

Orsola screaming in Aquinas and not involve the distance and realize with horror that Tatemiya is telling Anglican Church, as he has an excuse being a member of the truth. Tatemiya begs them to get Orsola away from them, no matter what it takes. Two of Agnese's subordinates, Sister Lucia and Sister Angeline, approach and say they are here to take Tatemiya into custody. Science Side. Touma asks them where Orsola is, but they say that is none of their concern. Touma gently brushes finds the church using the GPS on his cellphone, and destroys the seal. Alone, he faces against Lucia's shoulder, 250 armed battle nuns. Agnese mocks him for being there in the first place, and she goes berserk, saying tells him that he should know what he should do in the "heathen monkey" will pay for daring to touch her. She causes the carriage wheel she carries to explode. first place; Touma shields himself with his left arm, answers her by trying to punch her (which she blocks), and it gets embedded by the wooden shrapnel.

They remember
that Orsola was scared of he is there to save Orsola. This provokes Agnese and berate themselves for brushing that from their minds at the time. As they discuss their present course of action, tries to have her nuns attack Touma, however, Stiyl and Tatemiya reveal that arrives in an explosive entrance, which surprises Agnese since Stiyl is willing to risk destroying relations between the Roman Catholic Church can't execute Orsola right away because she has technically committed no sins. and the Anglican Church to interfere in Roman Catholic matters.

However, they will subject her to various Trials of Sin to force her to "confess" to a sin. Once she does, they will be free to kill her. Tatemiya says then they have no time to waste and runs off. Touma prepares to join him, but Stiyl says this isn't their problem anymore. Touma protests, but Stiyl states that his faction is adamant. He asks Touma where now involved with Roman Catholic matters, as Orsola is now wearing the cross necklace he gave him is, and he answers that was prepared by the Archbishop of their church, as such she is now a member of the Anglican Church, and her being executed by the Roman Catholics without negotiation with his church, as a member of the Anglican Church, Stiyl will not allow it; he also references Index being attacked on by the Roman Catholics, which angers him.

Saiji arrives as well, having freed his compatriots, and comments on how Touma is an idiot for going on his own, though he says that he is an interesting idiot. Index arrives shortly after, scolding Touma's decision, though states that they should go and save

Touma carries the injured Orsola during the battle, trying to find a way to escape the nuns after separating
from interfering in Index and the others.

Meanwhile, Saiji is doing well on his own using his own tactic, however, he notices that Index is being chased and cornered by
the Roman Catholic Church's affairs, so he's leaving. nuns. He walks away and tells Touma tries to take aid her, but is stopped by Stiyl who just defeated a few nuns. Stiyl states that getting near Index home.

At this point numerous Roman Catholic nuns are writhing in pain by Index's song; according to Stiyl, using the 103,000 grimoires locked inside her head, she can find the contradictions of the Christian doctrines that the person believes in, here, it is used against the Roman Catholic nuns, Saiji getting near Index down would render her ability ineffective, as his teachings are significantly different to that of the road to Academy City. She tells him to quit worrying. Tatemiya can save her on his own. She says she can't understand why he feels the need to get involved with other people's problems when he has no obligation to do so and he will not gain anything from it. However, Touma makes up his mind and runs back.

However, their advantage against the Roman Catholics
was built soon destroyed as Lucia orders the nuns to stab their ears in order for them to be unable to hear Index's Sheol Fear.

With time quickly running out, Touma and Index opts to use the Book of the Law embedded within her memory, as well as
Orsola Aquinas' name, Agnese abilities to decipher it, to use against the Roman Catholics. Stiyl was fine at the suggestion at first, though protested later as Index knowing how the Book of the Law works would mean more magicians would come after, and her forces take turns beating the crap out of Orsola. Her clothes later relented only after telling and threatening Touma to become stronger in protecting her. Their hopes are torn and she's covered with bruises. Agnese reveals her psychotic side, and says dashed however, after Index discovers that the code that Orsola uses to decipher the Book of the Law is incorrect, and states that it was a fake left behind by the author. Surprised by this, Agnese angrily asks him why ''he's'' interfering. Necessarius takes care of their own, so they can't allow her tries to be harmed any longer. The chapel that Touma and Agnese were fighting in was illuminated by the arrival of Innocentius, with
Stiyl, Index, Orsola, Tatemiya and the Amakusas engage Agnese's forces while Touma picks Amakusa Christians. Stiyl states that he used 4,300 rune cards to summon Innocentius with the help of the Amakusa Christians to setup the cards all around the Church of Orsola up bridal style and carries her away. Inside
Roman Catholics still had the church, advantage in numbers, as such Agnese discusses the battle with a few subordinates. She says they may be at a disadvantage now, but they will win in the end.

A second wave of battle nuns lead by Sister Lucia confronts Index. She prepares to cast Sheol Fear again, but Lucia declares
thought that they will do anything to win could still beat them back. However, the nuns' determination wavered, seeing the power of Innocentius. Both Touma and Agnese are aware that they alone should defeat the enemies of God. To everybody's horror, they stick fountain pens into their ears other one and break their own eardrums. Blood streams from their ears. Now that they are deaf, Sheol Fear cannot affect them.

Stiyl
no one else, as the conditions of victory would be fulfilled after one of them is defeated. Though Agnese is confused on how to defeat Touma, he however, steps forward and Tatemiya rush in to defend her. Fortunately, Touma and Orsola open a nearby door and tell the three to come in. They run in and shut the door, charges forward while Agnese is preoccupied in her own thoughts, and defeats her in a single blow to her face.

At that moment,
the nuns start hacking away at it with lay down their weapons. Orsola tells arms, and surrender. Touma he can put her down now as she's well enough falls unconscious shortly after, after receiving so much damage to walk.

[[caption-width-right:230:The punch that broke Agnese's forces.]]

Kaori explains that
both Orsola Aquinas and the Amakusa Catholics were integrated into Necessarius and Christians have become members of the Anglican Church, preventing though not converted into Anglicanism, and are now protected from the Roman Catholic Church. She continues by saying that the Anglican Church has released that Orsola's way of deciphering the Book of the Law, ensuring that the Roman Catholic Church from targeting will no longer persecute her in that matter. With the Amakusa Christians becoming members of the Anglican Church, they are still allowed to practice their own religious doctrines and teachings.

Meanwhile back in London, Stiyl reports that the Roman Catholic Church has declared that the Agnese Forces have acted on their own, and have no intention on assassinating Orsola Aquinas or anyone involved during the events that unfolded, though they'll still responsible somewhat for not managing
them any longer. They spread properly. Laura Stuart also hints on how she intended this incident with the word that Amakusa's to gain better control on Kaori, as she is too powerful to handle with violence, Laura states the need for positive reinforcement to control Kaori, such as having the Amakusa join the Necessarius. It is also hinted on how there is also an ulterior motive in saving Orsola Aquinas, as her life is a trivial concern to Laura, though Stiyl doesn't know what the reason is.

Though the Book of the Law would not be deciphered regardless of
Orsola's translation method doesn't actually work, which will stop greedy magicians from targeting her.

He puts
face, the bag down and leaves.

The
Roman Catholic Church was disgraced by further weakened due to the events of this arc. With the destruction of their main fighting strengths Gregorian Chant and the Agnese and her force's failure, so they claimed that they had gone renegade and were not acting under their orders to save face. Laura knew Forces, as well as the truth of the situation all along, and didn't tell Stiyl or the others. Saving Orsola was irrelevant to her; her main goal was to integrate Anglican Church gaining the Amakusa Catholics into Necessarius, giving her added firepower and making sure Kaori would never Christians, have an incentive to leave them, now that her loved ones are part of the organization. In the light novel, she also explains that she was the one who asked the Knights of England to attack Kaori, knowing they would fail, thus making them look incompetent and elevating Necessarius' worth in the eyes of the Queen of England. She thanks him for going beyond her expectations by saving Orsola and humiliating put the Roman Catholic Church as in a bonus and walks away. Stiyl digests how easily he and vulnerable enough position in allowing Lidvia Lorenzetti to set-up the others were played and calls Laura a bitch.Croce di Pietro in Academy City, to tip the already crumbling balance between the world's factions into their favor.
