* In WorldWarII, Lord Mountbatten favored a [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountbatten_pink certain shade]] of pinkish-grey for ships in his fleet. As German artillery sometimes used pink dye to see where their shells hit, this might have been justified. Not only that but you only have to wait till twilight to blend in, not darkness.

** On a side note, the idea of the unicorn as a "girly" concept is very recent. In middle ages, it was perceived as a wild, untamed creature (hence his presence in Scotland's national emblems). It had even been used as a symbol for virility, in connexion with the phallic imagery of the one horn.

**The practicality of it in combat also helped, as having long hair was a liability due to being easily grabbed. Not styling the hair like that was TemptingFate for it to be grabbed. Also, loose hair could obscure vision at the most inconvenient of times, such as in a battle, where having clear and unobstructed vision vastly increased one's chances of survival.
