* Montoya mutters "Madre de Dios" at least once. This translates to "Mother of God". Oaths are usually not allowed in kid's shows, especially in the '90s.
* It's a BlinkAndYouMissIt thing, but in the charity gala scene in Scarecrow's debut episode ("Nothing To Fear"), there is a split-second close-up of a slim young brunette in a red dress and her boyfriend looking up in surprise as the villains start flooding the hall with fear gas. If you look carefully, her facial design is quite different from other women in the series, with a firmer jaw, more pronounced eyebrows, smaller eyes and subtly masculine features overall, and the shot is cleverly angled so as to just barely obscure her cleavage and bare throat. All of this may of course be coincidence--She doesn't speak, either, so we never hear her voice--but it looks rather much like this girl is really meant to be a subtly portrayed (and thus, plausibly deniable) crossdressing boy. If so, this is the episode where the creators managed to sneak in not just a pretty transvestite, but an actual gay couple right past the censors.

** He then then says she looks familiar. Her response "I think I served you a subpoena once." Glancing down she adds "It was a small subpoena."

** Another one from "Mean Seasons". Listen closely and you can hear a man in the crowd saying "What the hell?" when Calendar Girl and her goons toss the gas eggs during their first attack.

** Ivy's retaliation also managed to slip by the censors due to careful execution. She kicks Joker in the balls, but the angle of the scene prevents the viewer from seeing exactly where her foot landed. To cement the idea that he was just kicked in the groin, Joker's subsequent cry of "get her!" comes out in a high pitched squeal.

To cement the idea that he was just kicked in the groin, Joker's subsequent cry of "get her!" comes out in a high pitched squeal. In the commentary on the episode, Timm and Dini even say they used that angle so they could say, "No, really, she kicked him in the stomach," to the censors.
