* ''Fanfic/PokemonResetBloodlines'' has many examples. [[FantasticRacism Having a bloodliner child]] seems to be the most common cause, but not the only one, as there's a woman who threw her daughter out for being a lesbian.

* Just like in [[VideoGame/DragonAgeInquisition canon]], Evelyn’s parents gave her away immediately after they discovered she’s a mage. Her mother still sends monthly letters but it's only for duty, not parental concerns as those letters are basically reports and orders for her daughter to be good and keep staying inside her "prison". Evelyn’s actually somewhat grateful for that because by giving her away when she was too young to get attached to her family, she has time to adjust and get used to her ordeal instead of fighting against it and causing more dangers to herself later.
** The Circles also enforce this trope on their mages. When a mage gives birth ([[ChildByRape usually as a result]] [[RapeAsDrama of rape]]), the child will be immediately taken away whether it's a mage like its mother or not.

*This is implied as to how Ryuuko ended up in Satsuki's (mostly known as "Sis") care during the events of ''The Outside'', as, apparently, their parents separated when the former was probably a toddler and their dad died. Some of what drives the plot is this trope as, Ryuuko is later taken from Satsuki's care and put into a home, social services trying to sort out where their mom is.

* In ''Fanfic/NeonGenesisEvangelionGenocide'', Shinji and Asuka were abandoned by their fathers when they were three. And that was the beginning of their many psychological issues.

* In the FanFic/BattleFantasiaProject, Magical Girl Star Reverie/Akiko Yamaguchi has had a rough life, having her career being [[{{Deconstruction}} more like]] SailorNothing than, say, Franchise/SailorMoon. After years of steadily escalating suspicious behavior, Mr. and Mrs. Yamaguchi kick her out, [[AscendedFridgeHorror as may very well happen to a Magical Girl whose parents have been out of the loop all this time]]. However, instead of putting her on the streets, they put her in a reform school... with kids who are ''genuine'' delinquents. For some time nothing was done to cover their reaction to [[DrivenToSuicide Akiko's jump]] that starts the whole story off. That is, [[http://forums.spacebattles.com/showpost.php?p=6296570&postcount=660 until recently]] with Akiko's mother. The shock of seeing her girl attempt suicide after outing herself as a MagicalGirl (which was indeed news to her) [[TearJerker is played for as much drama as possible]].

* ''Fanfic/OnceMoreWithFeeling'': Shinji and Asuka were abandoned by their fathers. Shinji hates his for it, and Asuka doesn’t want anything to do with hers. After a while, Shinji decides that Misato, Asuka, Rei… are his real family and cuts ties with his blood relatives.
-->'''Shinji:''' Three thousand, five hundred and forty nine. It's the number of days since my Father sent me off to live with my uncle. It also happens to be the number of days since anyone from the rest of my extended family bothered to so much as acknowledge that I even existed.

* Thelea, the protagonist of the ''Franchise/StarWarsLegends'' fan fic series ''[[http://archiveofourown.org/series/393550 TIE Fighter]]'', has issues with this. She starts out believing herself to be an orphan and [[DontYouDarePityMe touchy about it,]] and even when she figures out that's only half true and her DisappearedDad [[spoiler:Grand Admiral Thrawn]] had a valid reason for leaving and for keeping quiet about it, she still has abandonment issues. [[spoiler: And now complicated by her mother having really been PutOnABus and rather than dead, she's merely [[TheBusCameBack waiting at the bus stop.]]]]

* ''Fanfic/GhostsOfEvangelion'':
** Played straight with Shinji and Asuka, who were abandoned by their fathers when they were four. Post-Instrumentality Shinji wonders if his mother's actions can't be considered abandonment, too.
** Invoked and averted with Ryuko. Her mother declared that she and her husband would not abandon their daughter. She would not allow it.
