* Harry's mentally-unstable father on ''NightCourt'', played by John Astin, often mentioned incidents that kept him the mental institution, like "the Mister Potato Head" and "that little setback with the Cheez Whiz". But, as he always said afterward with Astin's trademarked smile, he's feeling ''much'' better now!

** According to WordOfGod, the writers originally intended to reveal the details in the final episode, possibly suggesting that whatever happened wasn't going to be as [[CreeplyUncle bad]] as it sounds taken out of context. However, the finale rolled around and no fishing trip story materialised, possibly because they decided it was funnier to leave it vague (or, alternatively, it was ''exactly'' what it sounded like and was too darkly comic/family unfriendly for the show to state it explicitly).

*** Actually this one ''doesn't'' quite fit the trope, despite the item in question providing a possible reference to it - early on in the episode, Annie is cleaning and throws away a half-eaten bowl of noodles Abed had left out in one of the communal areas of their apartment, causing him to flip out because he wasn't done eating them/doesn't believe in throwing food away/doesn't like people touching his stuff (his exact reason for being upset ''is'' left vague).
