* ''Webcomic/HedoneHigh'': "The Smote's Lullaby" is a fan song for an AUish animation. The basic story is that it's the singer warning their child about "The Smote" (Izm). They tell them various things that The Smote will do to them, including sewing their mouth shut, blinding them, and then killing them. It gets even worse when you apply some [[FridgeHorror of the lyrics.]] "Please be good, my dear sweet child, or The Smote will get you too." Why is this scary? This implies the singer has been/knows someone who has been killed already. Now think of the character in Webcomic/HedoneHigh that cares for children, was killed, and knew The Smote personally...

** ANY scene featuring Marcus. Most of the time, you never get to see his face. All you see is a shadowy figure with OpaqueLenses.
** While the the chapter itself is pretty lighthearted, [[https://rain.thecomicseries.com/comics/142/ Chapter 6's cover art]] is very ominious. It shows Rain in an angel costume falling into a black void.
** Crossing over into TearJerker, Rain waking up from her dream to find out [[spoiler:Kellen cut her hair]].
** Ana telling Gavin that [[spoiler:her ex-boyfriend attacked her due to finding out she’s intersex]]. We never see it or even shown snippets of in a flashback, but Ana’s reaction, oh lord, Ana’s reaction.
** Chase’ [[spoiler:rape and impregnation of Emily]] is a truly horrifying moment. It isn’t shown on page thankfully enough, but [[spoiler:Emily]] breaking down in tears even thinking about it is enough to send chills down your spine.
** Chapter 40 opens with probably the most despair inducing moment in the whole comic. Rain and Emily walk into the house of Emily's mom, expecting to confront her , only to fond nobody there. All they find is a letter that says she is yet again away on business. Emily’s reaction will haunt your nightmares.

* ''Webcomic/{{Erma}}'':
** Not Erma herself (though she's considered an in-universe example by adults around her), but the possessed dummy "Wittle Wallace" seems to have taken up residence around Erma. Especially after [[spoiler: it takes over the body of Erma's babysitter Felicia, with plans to do the same to Erma herself]].
** Felicia's body after she falls victim to a GrandTheftMe from the BigBad of the Secrets Arc [[spoiler:(Granted it ''is'' Wittle Wallace controlling her body)]]. Her eyes are much more blank and demon-like, she always has a creepy, malevolent smirk on her face, and she's outright cruel and antagonistic towards poor Erma and Felicia's new body.
** The Secrets Arc manages to pull one last bit of this, as we learn an upcoming BigBad is [[spoiler: Erma's original babysitter, most likely out for revenge for Erma's innocent pranks. Her face is almost demonic, much like Wallace's!Felicia]].
** "The Search, Part 23" has Erma being drawn into walking down a creepy forest path when she hears a voice. As she walks down the path, things get foggier and more voices to speak. Then it becomes clear that these are the sounds of a human attack on a {{youkai}} village, and the resulting massacre of the inhabitants, including [[WouldHurtAChild children]]. As more and more cries for help ring out, Erma jumps at the sound of a loud snap, causing her to disperse the fog. Then it's revealed that the snapping sound was caused by her stepping on a bone. She follows the bone trail to a tree growing over the piled-up remains of the slaughtered youkai. Doubles as a TearJerker.
*** Alternately, it may be the sounds of youkai attacking a human village. The tree with the skulls surrounding it is a type of yokai known as a ''jubokko.'' A tree that has become a yokai after absorbing vast quantities of human blood and thus hungers for it.
** Spirit's Bloom introduces two new bad guys, both of which have their brand of nastiness. On the day of [[spoiler: Erma's parents' wedding, Emiko's father causes the two to get into a car accident and fakes her death. Hard to say which is more terrible; Sam thinking his wife was dead for months, or her being kidnapped for months with no way to tell anyone where she was.]] The other new big bad is a strange invisible man who takes it even further by [[spoiler: violently killing three innocent nurses who just happened to see him. The first kill was particularly bad since he'd completely stolen the nurse's voice, leaving her unable to scream for help.]]
*** On the slightly bright side, we know the afterlife exists in this world so at least they’re in a better place.
