Uncanny Valley is IUEO now and the subjective version has been split; cleaning up misuse and ZCE in the process

* Unintentional on the developers' part. While the graphics are great, they do still fall into the UncannyValley from time to time; most notably the TV reporter you see throughout the game.

Up To Eleven is a defunct trope

** The final trial [[UpToEleven takes this to the maximum.]] The challenge is simple. Drink a vial containing a deadly poison that will kill Ethan in one hour, giving him enough time to save Shaun and say goodbye. HeroicSacrifice indeed. [[note]] The poison is actually fake. It’s more towards a psychological test than a physical one. [[/note]]

* Leland White, the suspect that Madison investigates in the Taxidermist DLC, kills women and has them stuffed just like the animals mounted on his wall. The first stuffed woman Madison sees is VERY creepy as it is just sitting on the couch smiling.
--> Leland: I’m gonna cut you up in little pieces. I’m gonna cut up your skin and add you to my collection.
** One of the possible ways for Leland to die is by Madison driving a ''chainsaw'' through his body. Leatherface would be proud.

** Ethan Mars: Origami Blues has him shooting himself in the head while being all alone in his hotel room. Tears In The Rain is similar, except Ethan does it ''in front of his son’s grave''. Helpless is by far the worst one, with Ethan accused as the Origami Killer, locked up in jail, Shaun dies, and he ''hangs'' himself.
*** A disturbing similarity in Origami Blues and Helpless is that Ethan is surrounded by origami figures that he made himself, showcasing [[ItsAllMyFault how guilty]] and mad he has became.
** Norman Jayden: Uploaded requires Norman to die in any of his chapters. That’s horrible enough, [[FromBadToWorse but then]] it turns out his conscious is somehow uploaded (hence, the ending’s name) into the ARI. This ending is never explained, [[FridgeHorror and it’s up to the player's imagination.]] Smoking Mirror, on the other hand has Norman overusing the ARI and eventually fatally overdosing in his own home.
** Madison Paige: Square One is definitely a nightmare to people who suffer from insomnia. In this ending, [[TheInsomniac Madison]] succumbs to her insomnia and begins to see men in black masks sneaking around and eventually facing her, unable to tell the difference between reality and her hallucinations. A telephone message from her friend has him asking, concerned, about Madison who he hasn’t seen in a while, which means she has been in this condition for days.

** The first trial requires Ethan to drive a designated car until reaching a specific destination on a busy highway. The catch? He must drives ''against the traffic''. Under five minutes. Not to mention that it is raining at that time, making the roads extremely slippery.
** The second trial is located at an abandoned powerplant. You can probably guess the theme of this trial. It first starts with Ethan being forced to crawl through a cramped, tiny tunnel with broken glass all over the floor, which is any claustrophobic worst nightmare. Especially if you look at Ethan's arms after he's done this. This will eventually leads to a large room. A room with rows and rows of ''active'' electrical condensers. And of course, the next clue is at the end of the room.

** Special mention goes to the third trial, where Ethan is forced to [[{{Fingore}} cut off his freaking finger]]. It's not so much the fact it's being cut off so much as it is the fact you CONTROL EVERY SECOND OF IT, even as he screams in agony. The fact you even get to choose which device he does it with (which happens to include an hatchet, saw, wire cutters and a pair of scissors among other things) somehow makes it worse. If you use the scissors, he has to cut off a lingering bit of it... ''twice''.

* Special mention goes to the third trial, where Ethan is forced to [[{{Fingore}} cut off his freaking finger]]. It's not so much the fact it's being cut off so much as it is the fact you CONTROL EVERY SECOND OF IT, even as he screams in agony. The fact you even get to choose which instrument he does it with (which happens to include an axe, wire cutters and a pair of scissors among other things) somehow makes it worse. ** When Ethan hallucinates he sees Jason again in the train station. From his point of view, time is frozen, and any time he touches one of the other people in the station, they fall limply, as if suddenly sucked of life. Try not to get nauseous.
** Adrian Baker, the evil doctor. What are the fucking odds that investigating leads on a serial killer makes you bump into ANOTHER serial killer? And a less insane, more evil one?
** Leland White, the suspect that Madison investigates in the Taxidermist DLC, kills women and has them stuffed just like the animals mounted on his wall.
** The first stuffed woman Madison sees is VERY creepy it is just sitting on the couch smiling.
** The Butterfly trial. Crawling through a tiny tunnel with broken glass all over the floor is anyone with claustrophobia's worst nightmare. Especially if you look at Ethan's arms after he's done this.
** And then having to slide down an incredibly narrow chute to get to the condenser maze once they get to the end of ''that'' part of the trial? Good luck keeping your lunch if you have claustrophobia.
** In the Butterfly trial, one wrong turn sends you straight into the ''dead body of another father who tried and failed to escape the tunnel''.
** Want some ParanoiaFuel? That sweet guy who saved you from suicide, took care of your baby, and stopped a robber from shooting you in the head may kidnap and kill your son the next day. Rock yourself to sleep with that one.

* The Although many of it are [[GoryDiscretionShot censored]], the abundance of possible death scenes of this game for the four main characters is very nerve wracking if you fail to do the [[PressXToNotDie QTEs]] on time. Most notably, Madison is killed Examples includes Norman getting crush by the Doc shoving a power grinder, Scott getting impaled on a pole and Madison drill into her private parts. * After Ethan’s son, Shaun is kidnapped by the Origami Killer, he is forced to participate in a grand total of five trials that is designed to test Ethan’s willingness to save Shaun. In order, they are:
** The first trial requires Ethan to drive a designated car until reaching a specific destination on a busy highway. The catch? He must drives ''against the traffic''. Under five minutes. Not to mention that it is raining at that time, making the roads extremely slippery.
** The second trial is located at an abandoned powerplant. You can probably guess the theme of this trial. It first starts with Ethan being forced to crawl through a cramped, tiny tunnel with broken glass all over the floor is a claustrophobic worst nightmare.Especially if you look at Ethan's arms after he's done this. This will eventually leads to a large room. A room with rows and rows of ''active'' electrical condensers. And of course, the next clue is at the end of the room.
*** One wrong turn sends you straight into the ''dead body of another father who tried and failed to escape the tunnel''.
**
Special mention goes to the third trial, where Ethan is forced to [[{{Fingore}} cut off his freaking finger]]. It's not so much the fact it's being cut off so much as it is the fact you CONTROL EVERY SECOND OF IT, even as he screams in agony. The fact you even get to choose which instrument device he does it with (which happens to include an axe, hatchet, saw, wire cutters and a pair of scissors among other things) somehow makes it worse. If you use the scissors, he has to cut off a lingering bit of it... ''twice''.
** Brad Silver. Kill him with the handgun you are given and take a picture of his corpse to get your next clue. The disturbing factor from this fourth trial comes by the fact that [[ShootTheDog it’s the only trial that forced you to take a person’s life in order to save Shaun.]] Silver also attempts to kill Ethan repeatedly with a shotgun. The ferocity with which he hunts Ethan goes a little beyond self-defense.
---> Silver: I’ll blow your brains out, you son of a bitch! Think you could come to MY house and steal MY dope?! You’re gonna be shooting up in Hell, motherfucker!
** The final trial [[UpToEleven takes this to the maximum.]] The challenge is simple. Drink a vial containing a deadly poison that will kill Ethan in one hour, giving him enough time to save Shaun and say goodbye. Heroic Sacrifice indeed. [[note]] The poison is actually fake. It’s more towards a psychological test than a physical one. [[/note]]
*
If you take too long on the final use of ARI as Jayden, his ''eyes start bleeding''. [[ContinuityNod Then he dies if you take even longer]].
** * The Origami Killer's method of murder.MO involve kidnapping a stray child and putting them under a locked grate. Slowly, [[DrowningPit rain will begin to fall into the grate and gradually fills up the area]] until the child drowns (or suffers hypothermia). You'll be afraid to get into the bathtub, let alone any large body of water.
** * When Ethan hallucinates he sees Jason again in the train station. From his point of view, time is frozen, and any time he touches one of the other people in the station, they fall limply, as if suddenly sucked of life. Try not to get nauseous.
** * Adrian Baker, [[MadDoctor the evil doctor. doctor.]] What are the fucking odds that investigating leads on a serial killer makes you bump into ANOTHER serial killer? And a less insane, more evil one?
** Made even creepier if Madison is killed in this chapter. Adrian would gently stroke her corpse, all with his [[EvilLaugh unnerving laugh.]]
** Adrian’s death is also quite shocking as Madison brutally plunges a drill into his heart.
*
Leland White, the suspect that Madison investigates in the Taxidermist DLC, kills women and has them stuffed just like the animals mounted on his wall.

up in little pieces. I’m gonna cut up your skin and add you to my collection.

possible ways for Leland to die is by Madison driving a ''chainsaw'' towards his body. Leatherface would be proud.
** In Madison can also died in this chapter, in which a newspaper clipping mention her sudden disappearance. [[FridgeHorror God knows what happens to her.]] [[note]] Her death in the Butterfly trial, one wrong turn sends you straight into DLC isn’t canon as it take place before the ''dead body of another father who tried and failed to escape the tunnel''.

one. Not to mention that when you investigate on the scrap yard, you can find a human skull floating in a tank of what seems to be acid.
** * Mad Jack himself. Stereotypical, but creepy nonetheless. When he put Norman at gunpoint, he mentions that one of Norman’s buddies asking too many questions and he has to ‘shut his mouth’. How about one of his deaths in the chapter. Being crushed under a car while yelling.yelling.
* [[UnstoppableRage Scott rampage into Kramer’s mansion.]] From Kramer’s bodyguards perspective, [[OhCrap Scott is their grim reaper.]] Armed with only a pistol, Scott manages to blast his way inside the mansion, killing every single person he sees without hesitation. It’s even more scary when you know who Scott really is.
** When Kramer suddenly has a heart attack, the player is given the option to leave and let him die. Despite the fact that Kramer is an asshole who attempts to cover up his son’s (accidental) murder, letting him die from a natural cause like that is quite disturbing, to say the least.
--> Kramer: Shelby… come back, I fucking order you!

* The complete lack of caring shown by Scott's father when he's told one of his sons is drowning is very disturbing. He even claims it'll be a good thing if it happens.
* Brad Silver chasing Ethan around his apartment with a SHOTGUN. The ferocity with which he hunts Ethan goes a little beyond self-defense.
* The "Unpunished" ending for one simple reason: [[KarmaHoudini Scott gets away with all his crimes.]] And there's nothing to say he won't claim more victims in the future. Though this depends on the player's actions. He may: (1) Stop his life as the Origami Killer if Ethan saved his son. Or (2), he may continue this if Shaun died or Ethan didn't reach the warehouse to save the boy's life, due to not finding a father able to save his son.

* The complete lack of caring shown by Scott's father when he's told one of his sons is drowning is very disturbing. He even claims it'll be a good thing if it happens. Scott’s brother death is also the ‘trigger point’ that turns Scott into the Origami Killer.
* Scott’s sickening ways in killing children and torturing their father just ''to find a father capable of saving their own son.''
--> Scott: Just to find a father?! Have you had any idea how it feels to know you’ve been a worthless nothing in your father’s eyes? Believe me, I suffered just as much as my victims…
--> Ethan: You’re mad… you’re completely ''fucking'' mad!
*Being a game with multiple choices, it is possible to screw up big-time and get incredibly depressing and disturbing DownerEnding that really hits you with a massive pang of guilt.
** Ethan Mars- Origami Blues has him shooting himself in the head while being all alone in his hotel room,, Tears In The Rain Is the similar, except Ethan do it ''in front of his son’s grave''. Helpless is by war the worst one, with Ethan accused as the Origami Killer, locked up in jail, Shaun dies, and he ''hangs'' himself.

* Brad Silver chasing *** A disturbing similarity in Origami Blues and Helpless is that Ethan is surrounded by origami figures that he made himself, showcasing [[ItsAllMyFault how guilty]] and mad he has became.
**Norman Jayden- Uploaded required Norman to die in any of his chapters. That’s horrible enough, [[FromBadToWorse but then]] it turns out his conscious is somehow uploaded (hence, the ending’s name) into the ARI. This ending is never explained, [[FridgeHorror and it’s up to the player imagination.]] Smoking Mirror, on the other hand has Norman overusing the ARI and eventually overdosed to death in his own home.
**Madison Paige- Square One is definitely a nightmare towards people who suffered from insomnia. In this ending, [[TheInsomniac Madison]] succumbs to her insomnia and began to see men in black masks sneaking
around his apartment with and eventually facing her, unable to tell the differences between reality and hallucinations. A telephone message from her friend has him asking and concerning about Madison who he hasn’t see in a SHOTGUN. The ferocity with while, which he hunts Ethan goes a little beyond self-defense.
