* [[SchmuckBait Accepting the Dragonlord's offer to rule at his side]]. He tells you that your quest is over and then, with an EvilLaugh, invites you to take a long rest. Your surroundings then cut to black, the text turns blood-red and... [[GameOver that's it]]. ''VideoGame/DragonQuestBuilders'' is actually based on this ending. If the plot of that game is anything to go by, [[TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt this ending didn't end very happily for anyone else either.]]

* The deserted town of Hauksness uses the eerie dungeon theme and is filled with wrecked shops, grown-over pavement and poisonous marshes. The really bad news is that "deserted" doesn't mean the town is empty, no; it's filled the strongest enemies in the overworld. It's partially adverted in the [=GBC=] remake though (where it's called Domdora) and turned into a TearJerker of sorts instead, as the music playing in that version is actually the Requiem from Dragon Quest II.
