* "Sawmill Thrill," has you come dangerously close to being sliced by a giant buzzsaw. The urgent music really doesn't help matters.

* "Speak No Evil, Dude" was probably the darkest episode of the series. The extremely deadly Kongo Bongo Gone Wrongo disease is going around, and Diddy catches it. The only cure is a single purple banana, of which there is only one. If he isn't cured, he'll ''die''. It goes FromBadToWorse when K. Rool gets the disease due to a misunderstanding, and his minions plan to blow up Kongo Bongo. DK is left with a SadisticChoice: Save his best friend and let Kongo Bongo be destroyed, or cure K. Rool so he can call off teh attack. Fortunately, in the end, things turned out all right as both Diddy and K. Rool are both cured and the attack is called off, but it's still an extremely dark episode for a kid's show.

* "Speak No Evil, Dude" was probably the darkest episode of the series. There's the disease going around called "Kongo Bongo Gone Wrongo" disease and whoever has it will die! Diddy actually catches the disease by the bird and only cure is a purple banana but there's only one left and if Diddy isn't cured he will die that scary enough alone but it gets worse once King Rool catches the disease due to the misunderstanding Klump and Krusha were going to blow up Kongo Bongo Island and everyone else on the island will die as well! Now DK has to choose to either cure Diddy or King Rool! Fortunely, in the end things turned out all right Diddy gets cured in time and King Rool gets cured as well and stops his minions from blowing up the island and punishes them! But still that was a pretty dark episode for a light-hearted series.
** Also, K Rool for some reason has a stockpile of explosives large enough to blow up the island. In another episode "Buried Treasure" Rool seeks out a possible doomsday device. Basically, the king is deranged and corrupt enough to consider carpetbombing.

* The ''Donkey Kong Country'' games had shockingly depressing Game Over screens. [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-U5e9LR6E4 The first one]] shows DK and Diddy horribly beaten down in a dark void, with a morbid font and depressing music playing (as you can see from the page image), [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAPxbnL4a7E the second one]] shows Diddy and Dixie locked up while depressing music plays and the GameOver message hovers down to taunt you (with the whole screen slowly turning blood red), and finally, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3-6g7p56lQ&feature=related the third one,]] shows Kiddy and Dixie in a baby crib, while a [[IronicNurseryTune creepy Music Box plays depressing music]] (ButtonMashing allows you to play along) until [[LastNoteNightmare you hear someone slam a door]].
** Oh and to make things worse? The first game's game over screen DOESN'T GO AWAY until you press a button on your controller. Even when the music ends, it will stay there to haunt you forever [[spoiler: until you mash the "A" button so that you can be relieved to see the opening again.]]

** [[spoiler:The Donkey Kong Country 2 screen wasn't a jail. [[FridgeHorror That was an oven.]]]]

** The Game Over screen in the second game is deliberately ambiguous, depending on your interpretation of the fade-to-red: it either represents the young kongs being simply screwed, or [[FridgeHorror implies their "prison" is actually an oven.]]
