When we say ''DGrayMan'' is a dark series, we mean ''dark''. While it started out as horror-shonen, slow GenreShift with the development of the MythArc has driven it more and more out of the realm of standard horror... which has, ironically, made it much scarier. Read on for a bonanza of BodyHorror, UncannyValley, and AdultFear that might make it hard to sleep at night.

* During the Phantom Thief G arc, when Kanda kicks Howard Link back, so his body is penetrated by Allen's sword, Howard says "What's this", to which Allen replies, with a very unsettling smile on his face: "It's a sword. You've been stabbed." Granted, he knew about the 14th living inside him at this point, so it could be the 14th briefly took over, but it still looks unsettling.

* Allen saying "Good... Mor... Ning" to the second Level 4, after stabbing it and himself with Crown Clown. You just know when a Level 4 Akuma, the strongest known Akuma, is afraid, there's a really good reason why.

* It's safe to say that this entire manga is a giant pool of it. Speaking of pools: Allen has a reverse version of Lenalee's "end of the world" nightmare, and in an attempt to pass through the water to meet her, gets stopped by what looks like an [[GurrenLagann Anti-Spiral]] [[ManOnFire ON FIRE]]. And it turns out to be the 14th Noah.
* The scene where Road and Tyki are both injured, sitting in a room with the windows blown out. Tyki complains that his wounds hurt, and it cuts to an [[EyelessFace eyeless]] [[SlasherSmile grinning]] face [[http://www.mangareader.net/210-15275-13/dgray-man/chapter-184.html reflected in every single shard of glass]].

* A seemingly boring filler arc in the manga suddenly turns terrifying when [[spoiler:Allen stabs himself with his own sword, accidentally awakening the 14th Noah inside of him. It takes possession of his body for a couple minutes, and reveals that not only can Allen's body be capable of doing [[http://www.mangareader.net/210-15273-11/dgray-man/chapter-182.html the creepiest smile ever]] - but that it appears as [[http://www.mangareader.net/210-15273-12/dgray-man/chapter-182.html a rotting, skeletal and possibly flaming corpse]].]]
** More creepiness from the Fourteenth in chapter 189. There's something really viscerally disturbing about watching [[spoiler:Allen, in the middle of angrily denying that something he doesn't remember happened, suddenly flip over to DissonantSerenity as he is taken over instantaneously and '''''with absolutely no warning''''' by the Fourteenth, who goes on [[http://www.mangareader.net/210-41035-13/dgray-man/chapter-189.html to chat with the Earl]] like an old best friend....]] Until the Fourteenth suddenly gets right up into the Millennium Earl's face to flash a SlasherSmile and tell everyone his intended goal -- [[spoiler:to kill the current Millennium Earl in order to become the '''NEW''' Millennium Earl.]] OhCrap, [[http://www.mangareader.net/210-41035-14/dgray-man/chapter-189.html indeed]].

*** This is another scene that the anime makes much, much worse by expanding upon. Not only is Lenalee grabbed, pinned down, and bitten by a bunch of skeletons, [[RapeAsDrama the ones on her thighs pry her legs open, one of them sticks its head up her skirt to do only the Earl knows what]] before the Earl shows up with MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily chattering like a nutcracker. Lenalee can only thank God that Allen showed up when he did.
