* TheGift: Quite a few characters are called "genius" or "natural prodigy", they often do live up to expectations. Some examples:
** The Uchihas, ''all of them''. The only one that seemed like an aversion turns out to be the BigBad who is perfectly capable of fighting the entire world at once, single-handedly.
** The Fourth Hokage, who's considered the fastest ninja who ever lived. He had a flee-on-sight order placed on him during the Third War, was able to figure out the aforementioned BigBad's weakness in seconds and created the Rasengan by observing the Tailed Beasts.
** Orochimaru, one of the legendary Sannin, who knows a humongous amount of techniques, killed the Third Hokage and is functionally immortal.

** Obito Uchiha has attempted to murder an infant that has just been born, summoned the nine-tails to Konoha killing lots of people, send the state of the Kiri village to hell, formed the Akatsuki that is responsible for even more deaths, aided Itachi in killing off his own clan, and started a pointless war causing many people to die all because he is throwing a temper tantrum towards Rin's death. [[spoiler: Yet when he finally does a RedemptionEqualsDeath, he reunites with Rin in the afterlife with open arms with Rin stating that Obito is simply a misunderstood fellow as if she forgot every heinous act Obito did after she forces Kakashi to kill her. Naruto himself calls Obito an awesome guy, knowing he was the same man that caused most of the problems in his life, including ''killing his parents'', leaving him the bullied orphan he grew up as.]]
** Madara Uchiha [[spoiler: essentially, despite all he's done, gets to be PeacefulInDeath.]]

** Kabuto also qualifies. Like Orochimaru [[WhatHappenedToTheMouse we have no idea what happened to him]] after he [[spoiler: helped save Sasuke]] despite causing the events of the war in the first place by reviving Madara along with every other famous shinobi and forcing them to fight against their will to assist Obito in essentially destroying the world.

* ForgottenPhlebotinum: Chapter 598: Tobi's about to be rasenganed in the face. He can't go intangible (and the concept of dodging seems to have eluded him). That shiny new Rinnegan he took so much effort to acquire has no less than two separate techniques that could have prevented Naruto's attack, but he instead opts to take a hit to the face. [[spoiler: He couldn't use Kamui's intagibility because he is already in its dimension, and Kamui turns him "intangible" by sending parts that are about to be hit to its dimension. As for the Rinnegan jutsu, its heavily implied that without two Rinnegan he can not use most of its powers, namely the Deva path, which even Madara only demonstrates when wielding two Rinnegan, never when using just one]].

** Obito indulges in this from time to time. He took a gamble by telling Sasuke the truth about Itachi, hoping that the former would not return to the Leaf to protect it. Finally, during the Fourth Sinobi World War, he constantly managed to pull one over the heroes and stay in the lead.

* HardWorkHardlyWorks: A particularly {{egregious}} example, which is especially galling given that one of the major themes of Part 1 was that things like natural talent can't take the place of hard work. The best of the best have every powerup handed to them on a silver platter while leaving everyone who isn't similarly blessed behind in the dust. What small successes minor characters have when compared to where they would be if they didn't work hard are meaningless compared to the arbitrary powerups Naruto and Sasuke and Tobi, etc., receive with no real or noticeable effort.
** It should be noted that there is a noticeable comparison between Naruto and Sasuke in regards to this trope. Throughout both Parts I and II, for Naruto to gain any type of strength he actually had to go out and train first. While the Nine-Tails power was technically handed to him, he had to actively work to make any use of it. The payoff for him is just world breakingly ridiculous. Sasuke on the other hand is a more straight example, as all the hard training he put himself through in Part I and II resulted in practically nothing and all of his power ups came in the form of Sharingan upgrades. The latest required the least amount of work possible as it just required him implanting his brothers eyes into his own head. By the end of the series both of them end up as living gods through a power-up given to them while critically wounded.
** Averted and played straight a very big way with Guy against Madara. Averted in that he was the only person to hurt Madara at his most powerful, something the Five Kage couldn't do while he was a zombie and was even stated to be the best taijutsu user the Uchiha had ever seen and he got there through hard work. Then it is played straight in that, if it wasn't for Naruto, he would have died right there and even after Naruto saved body was in such a bad shape that he couldn't continue his career as a ninja.
