On April 8, 1986, two hours after her manager found Okada in her gas-filled apartment, crouching in a closet, sobbing with a slashed wrist, she jumped off from the seven-story building of the Sun-Music Agency. Copycat suicides followed afterwards and the term "Yukiko Syndrome" was coined. While there are some guesses, the very reason why she took her own life is still considered a mystery. A detailed research and few speculations could be found here.

* AuthorExistenceFailure: There were posthumous releases up to 2002.

* OneHitWonder: Apparently justified because her life was unexpectedly cut short... She's actually had hits in the top ten but her only real number one hit so far was "Kuchibiru Network". It's also a song written by SeikoMatsuda, giving it a bit of irony due to the fact that she was considered a rival at the time. More ironic is that this was also her very last single, not counting the posthumous releases.
* OneOfUs: It once showed that she was no different than any other teenager yet different from other idol singers. She's a straight-A student for example. Otaku And loves reading comics.

Added DiffLines:

* AccidentalMisnaming: A nervous Okada introduced herself as 'Yukko' and the name has since gotten stuck until becoming an AffectionateNickname.

* DeadArtistsAreBetter

to:

* DeadArtistsAreBetterDeadArtistsAreBetter: She's not at all that remarkable and even her voice is nothing special. There are definitely better and more talented idols in her era, yet the only reason why she's so well-remembered and cherished today is because of, well, her suicide at such a young age.

* FragileFlower: One of many reasons was that she was going through mood swings and she can be just as lively as she can be just as depressed. Having an almost always energetic persona in public, this was really saying something.
* IdolSinger: She seems to be the most basic example of one.

Yukiko Okada (Born as Kayo Satō; August 22, 1967) was a Japanese idol singer in the 1980s. She was a winner of the talent show, Star Tanjō! (a show predating what AmericanIdol would be all about) and pretty much after that, the rest is history.
