* RealityEnsues: The results of Ringi's televised spar with Takenaka. Ringi actually defeats Takenaka, a near superhuman feat for an underage girl to manage against a male adult pro, but it's heavily implied (all but stated) that the loss was faked to promote Ringi at the cost of a retired fighter's reputation.
** Zig-zagged, as while the loss was scripted, Takenaka's broken rib was ''not''.

* GenkiGirl: Yuzuko. It's part of why Natsuo dislikes her so much. Also Ringi.
* HardWorkHardlyWorks: Averting this trope is the foundation of the story: Natsuo has the ability to excel at any of the sports offered by her high school without even trying. MMA is the first sport she's encountered she actually has to work at, and despite having TheGift she's still a small fry with lots of hard work and disappointment ahead of her if she wants to excel at it. And she loves it.

* InnocentlyInsensitive: Deconstructed. Growing up, Natsuo was naturally skilled, so when people were in awe of her accomplishments she would react in surprise that they couldn’t do something so simple. After awhile of seeing their negative reactions, she began to realize how insulting her words were. Now she is just being deliberately insulting. It is also shown that it’s more this them her coming to his rescue that breaks her brother’s spirit.

* Mario, despite knowing that Pac Duna was double-jointed and thus immune to submission holds. All he told Yuzuko was that Pac Duna was gonna be trouble. Yuzuko’s second called him an asshole upon finding this out.

* TalentVsTraining: Natsuo is the talent, Yuzuko has the training. In a twist on the usual trope, the talent is the protagonist, and also clearly the unsympathetic party. Natsuo enjoyed nothing more than lording her inborn gifts in the faces of other people who train really hard, and gets a serious shock when that isn't enough to beat Yuzuko in MMA.

Teppu can be best thought of as an inverted {{Shounen}} manga. Natsuo, instead of being a happy and well-balanced young male, is an easily irritated and arrogant young female. Instead of starting off relatively weak and working her way up, Natsuo is already one of the best; Yuzuko is her first real challenge in ages. Instead of losing her first fight and learning some lesson about hard work, she wins it handily, through a cheap tactic. Really, Natsuo acts as an [[VillainProtagonist antagonist]] to Yuzuko, having all the characteristics TheRival would have in a regular Shounen work. The best part is that this is all lampshaded by various characters, often Natsuo, who sees the whole situation as irritating, though also accepts being a VillainProtagonist rather easily.
