* WakeUpGoToSchoolSaveTheWorld: This is basically Hikaru's life after Horizon shows up. The "Save the World" part goes a little slowly until Maelstrom finally makes himself known.

* HumanityIsInfectious: At the start of the manga, Horizon is generally a nice guy but doesn't quite "get" a lot of human quirks or the reason why Hikaru does she does sometimes. Over the course of the story he starts to learn more about being human and thus becomes more "human" himself. [[spoiler:This is also the case for Maelstrom after he gets trapped inside Hikaru]]
* HumanoidAbomination: Hikaru herself is this after Horizon enters her body, though it becomes a lot more blatant after [[spoiler:Maelstrom]] follows suit. [[spoiler:After the Moderator starts the macroevolutio, many people become these, notably Chika and Hikaru's aunt & uncle.]]

Cut trope.

* WhatTheHellTownspeople: [[spoiler:Hikaru's father was a geologist who moved to the island where they used to live because there were rumors that the island was abundant in a valuable, mineral-rich ore. The other islanders saw this as an opportunity to develop the island into a new community, and put all of their faith and support in Hikaru's father to make it possible. When it turned out that there ''was'' no ore, which he himself didn't know until his superiors told him, everyone on the island blamed him ''personally'' for it. This led to harassment, death threats, assaults on the Takabe house, and ultimately Hikaru's father died while still trying to find the ore even though it was hopeless. It's been years since that happened and people on the island ''still'' blame Hikaru for it.]]
