* RapeLeadsToInsanity: on the border in some ways. While Hinako is far from "insane", she quite understandably suffers from a number of psychological problems, including androphobia[[note]]fear of men[[/note]], male-specific haphephobia[[note]]fear of touch[[/note]], gymnophobia[[note]]fear of being seen nude(due to her scar in this case)[[/note]], and learned helplessness[[note]]a tendency to shut down and let bad things happen as a result of repeatedly being unable to stop similar trauma in the past[[/note]]. Though Hinako at one point says that immediately following rape a person would not be completely calm and in control, the manga doesn't really suggest that lacking these problems would make her less of a victim; it simply makes clear that none of these things should be at all surprising in the wake of such prolonged abuse.

** Though Hinako's mother could never make up for what her daughter went through, props to her when she finally accepts the truth and chases the stepfather out of the house with a knife.

** Kazuki is a milder example; some of her treatment of Daisuke, especially the false rape accusation, would generally be enough to warrant police attention, let alone that of the school authorities. However, this is sadly also [[TruthInTelevision Truth In Manga]], because women and girls getting off scott-free for making false rape accusations is quite common.

** Daisuke, throughout the manga. He gradually comes to develop a crush on Hinako, but resolves himself to secrecy when she flat-out tells him the reason she's (relatively) comfortable with him is that he doesn't see her "as a woman". He spends most of the manga terrified that she'll fear him if she finds out he's in love with her.
