* VideoGame/DragonAgeOrigins, apart from the elvish curved blades most every sword or dagger is a medieval European straight blade, and if you are going to be fighting heavily armored foes you probably are going to be using a mace or warhammer, though the game uses rather oversized versions of the latter.

* VideoGame/HonkaiImpact3rd has an eclectic mix; the three main characters use GunsAkimbo, katanas, and cannons, while others can use gauntlets, scythes, lances, broadswords, and bows. The most unique standout is a character who uses crucifixes as a weapon - which are actually specially-constructed cross-shaped autoguns.

In certain kinds of stories, you want characters to have weapons. It's important: They need weapons to fight, their choice of weapon may reflect their personality, and it makes them look cooler.

An Axe To Grind is no longer a trope

* The world of VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends is such a diverse FantasyKitchenSink with such varying technology levels and resource accessibility that nearly every conceptual weapon type is covered. Who gets what often has to do with the worldbuilding: places like The Freljord, Shurima, and Targon have lower tech, with its populous fighting with blunt objects (BFS giant swords, clubs, halberds, even enchanted doors) or primitive firearms like bows and arrows, though Wutai Ionia coasts on having simpler, eastern-inspired weapons (katanas, ninja arsenals, and the like) with a large magical twist. More developed, militaristic nations like Demacia and Noxus wield weapons more suited for large-scale war, with ornate swords, spears, battleaxes, knives, and even a scattering of handguns and artillery. The sister cities of Piltover and Zaun (as well as the distant hub of piracy, Bilgewater) have access to the highest available tech in Runeterra, and is where you'll find the most guns, including shotguns, Sniper Rifles, rocket launchers, Attack Drones, as well as technologically-advanced melee options like giant Power Fists and scissor legs. This isn't even getting into all the various exceptions and twists thanks to the abundance of magic in the world, including Qiyana's elemental power-channeling ring blade or the various light-firing guns used by the Sentinels (including Senna's "Relic Cannon" that is in practice akin to a massive, light/dark-blasting BFG railgun).

That's why Morrowind Orcish armor looks like it does.

** The series includes katanas, wakizashi, tantos, and Samurai-style armor alongside early Medieval armor, claymores, longswords, sabres, etc. This is justified by the series lore, as what we would call the Asian weaponry -- tantos, wakizashis, katanas, and dai-katanas -- are from Wutai Akavir, a continent far to the east of Tamriel, and were brought over by the Tsaesci, one of the four known Akaviri races, when they invaded during the 1st Era. The Blades, based originally on the Akaviri Dragonguard, blend Akaviri and Tamriellic styles in their equipment. Their armor resembles Roman Lorica Segmentata, their helmets resemble the Japanaese Kabuto, and their primary weapons are katanas.

* As odd as it may seem, this trope can happen in the real world as well. Notably during the Middle Ages in Europe when castles defended themselves. The occupants inside would use the usual weapons: bows, spears, rocks, etc. But they'd also use just about anything not nailed down if the situation got dire enough.
* In the Vietnam War, an A-1H Skyraider was launched with a special bomb attached to its wing. Prior to this, one of the toilets for the squadron had broken aboard the carrier, and was about to be thrown overboard. However, for what ever reason, one of the plane captains decided to 'rescue' the toilet, and attach some fins and a fuse to the toilet in order to turn it into a "Toilet Bomb". The A-1 in question was hurriedly loaded with the unique weapon, and hooked up to the catapult. Just as the 'Shooter' was about to give the launch signal, the Carriers Air Boss asked "What the hell was on 572’s right wing?".

* All 75 potential recruits in VideoGame/ExitFate have a unique weapon, often named, and while they usually fit a more specific trope than ImprobableWeaponUser, the tropes in question vary wildly. What other game allows practitioners of ChainPain and ThrowTheBookAtThem to fight in the same party as a DeathDealer? Then again, most of the really ridiculous weapons are used by characters who have a low attack power...

* VideoGame/RakenzarnFrontierStory uses knives, guns, swords, spears, hammers and more. But in this case, as the Realmwalkers need to travel between many worlds of varying technological sophistication and the various Rune Classes best work with one weapon or another, this trope is a bit more justified.
