* NightmareFuel: The Spider and the Lawnmower. Both of them are complete monsters.
** You can take out the spider and the ant-lions with a big enough horde. They respawn and you will take huge casualties, but it's very satisfying.
** Actually, spider-hunting can be a very effective way of gaining food on a map where your colony's developed (and crammed with soldiers, of course) and the food supply has dwindled for one reason or another.
** On the original PC version, in this troper's opinion, the [[HellIsThatNoise sound effects are MUCH freakier]] than the SNES version. Events (such as having a follower emergency-feed you) jump out of nowhere with unsettling visuals and sounds, leading to many an unintentional JumpScare.
** This troper had nightmares for years. A sudden, flash-stepping spider appearing out of nowhere and eating you, accompanied with a close up of its face. Even positive things like getting fed are accompanied by Nightmare Fuel.
* NotSoWeak: A queen still has a good chance of winning against a soldier, but not such a good chance against a worker ant.
* SillinessSwitch: The PC and Mac versions include an option to add silly sound effects to the game, and word balloon commentary from the ants.
