*** It's arguable that Quill, himself is a subversion, in that he sometimes makes references that given that he was abducted in 1988 at age 12, he'd be unlikely to know about (e.g Jackson Pollock). His mother's interest in classic Rock probably extended to other pop culture genres as well.

* ''Fanfic/TheBridge'': In the spin-off ''The Bridge: Humanity's Stand'', a scientist brings in a blade that may be the legendary weapon Excalibur. Admiral Taizo Tachibana has never heard of it. Everyone pokes fun at him, with Ozaki pointing out that like Tachibana, he's Japanese, yet he's familiar with the story.

* In ''Series/JaneTheVirgin'', Petra calls her twin daughters Anna and Elsa, and when Jane makes [[WesternAnimation/{{Frozen}} the obvious connection]], Petra says Jane is the only person who would ever think that. Mere seconds later she gets proven wrong when Rafael,
enters and Petra introduces him to Elsa... and he ''immediately'' calls the other one Anna (Jane is the ''only'' person who Petra told the babies' names too, and Rafael wasn't present for the birth)!

* In the ''Series/DoctorWho'' episode "The Empty Child", set during [[UsefulNotes/WorldWarII the Blitz]], Rose jokingly refers to the Doctor as "Mr. Spock". Jack doesn't get the reference and initially assumes that it was the Doctor's name. It's later revealed he's a conman from the future (the 51th century), but it's still not surprising ''Star Trek'' reruns wouldn't last that long.
