''Pitch Perfect'' is a 2012 musical comedy film directed by Jason Moore. The screenplay was written by Kay Cannon, loosely adapted from the book of the same name by Mickey Rapkin. The film stars AnnaKendrick, Rebel Wilson, Skylar Astin, Anna Camp, Creator/BrittanySnow, Ester Dean, Ben Platt, and Adam [=DeVine=].

The story follows an all-girls a capella group, "The Bellas", who try to beat the reigning a capella group, "Treble Makers". Standoffish Beca Mitchel, would rather be trying her hand at becoming a famous music producer in Los Angeles, but is forced to go to Barden University because her father wants her to have something to fall back on. There, she's introduced to the world of collegiate acapella, by way of an all female group, the previously disgraced Barden Bellas, who are scouting for new members. After initially scoffing at the idea of joining the Bellas, she later decides to audition, and passes the test along with "Fat Amy", Cynthia Rose, Stacie and a host of other colorful characters. Beca also meets Jesse at the campus radio station they both work at, who turns out to be a member of The Treble Makers, the Bellas' rivals. Both of these groups aim for winning the national acapella championship, creating tension and forbidden romance.

** During the riff-off, Cynthia Rose starts off the Songs About Sex section with "S&M", a song that the actress (Ester Dean) wrote.
** Also, the university DJ asking if Beca is going to flight attendant training is funny considering how much time Anna Kendrick has [[UpInTheAir spent in airports.]]
** "So you know German. Well, now I know why you don't like fun things," is funny given that Skylar Astin acted in a [[SpringAwakening musical all about Germans and fun.]]

** She also seems to have no problem having a conversation with Beca about just how close they're going to be this year, where their faces are less than four inches apart and then shaking her ass at Beca as she walks away. All of this ''before'' she goes off to start drinking. The term "ambiguous", in this case, might be a touch too generous.
* ArtisticLicenseLinguistics: Beca claims that Vader is German for father after saying StarWars The Empire Strikes Back was predictable because of that. Vader is actually Dutch for father, not German. Vater means father in German.
* AscendedFanboy: Benji becomes this InUniverse.
* AwesomeAussie: Fat Amy. She claims to have fought a crocodile and a dingo at the same time.
* BechdelTest: This movie passes with flying colors.
** Even subverted: Gail only has conversations with John Smith, her misogynistic co-commentator. She turns out to be the most outspoken feminist in the whole movie.
