*The creation of Franchise/FelixTheCat is attributed to Pat Sullivan (1885-1933) and Otto Messmer (1892 –1983). The extend of their role in the creation is a matter of ongoing dispute, as they both claimed the solo credit at various points. The last television series about Felix ended in 2001, decades after their respective deaths.

*ComicStrip/TheKatzenjammerKids were created in 1987 by Rudolph Dirks (1877 –1968). He continued writing the series until March 1913. The series was continued by other writers. The last original strip of the series was produced in 2006, and the series is still in syndication. It is the longest-running comic strip ever, and outlived both Dirks and most of its other writers.

** ComicBook/DoctorStrange was co-created by Creator/StanLee (1922-2018) and Creator/SteveDitko (1927-2018). They only worked on Strange's stories from 1963 to 1966. An ever increasing number of writers and artists have worked on solo stories for Strange ever since, and the character has been prominently featured in several team books. Strange has never been one of Marvel Comics' best-selling characters, but he has always managed to maintain a cult following. Both of the creators coincidentally died in the same year, but their deaths had no effect on Strange's popularity.

**The ComicBook/XMen were co-created by Creator/StanLee (1922-2018) and Creator/JackKirby (1917-1994), but neither stayed for long in this team book. Kirby penciled and co-plotted all the stories from 1963 to 1965, and Lee was the main writer from 1963 to 1966. They created the team's founding members and a small cast of recurring villains. The series was continued by other writers and artists, who gradually added more characters to the cast. In The80s, the team gained several spin-off series, forming a new lucrative franchise for Marvel. The deaths of the team's creators had no effect on the team's popularity, because they had nothing to do with the series' direction for decades. The X-Men cast has since expanded to include hundreds of characters, and the Lee-Kirby creations are relatively few among them.
