** Used to humorous extent in the Fifth Doctor audio ''Iterations of I''; the Doctor and his companion Adric have just discovered the dead body of the member of a cult when they themselves are discovered by a woman searching for the cult, the Doctor protesting that he always says that this isn't what it looks like, but in this case it doesn't even ''look'' like what it looks like as the body has clearly been dead for months rather than someone who only just died.

* A LifetimeMovieOfTheWeek which had a woman walking in on her husband and his secretary going at it on the couch in his office. He name-drops this trope, prompting her to scream at him and ask what kind of an idiot he takes her for.
* ''Series/{{ER}}'' Doug Ross name-drops this when his current girlfriend catches him with another woman, despite the fact that they're fully dressed and merely talking and laughing outside his apartment building. But given his TheCasanova reputation, she's completely (and probably correctly) convinced that they're either pre or post-coital.

* In [[https://jeconais.fanficauthors.net/This_Means_War/index/ This Means War]] by Jeconais, there is an attempt to break Harry and Ginny up by convincing Cho Harry loves her and arrange for her to kiss him right as Ginny arrives. Ginny does see it, launches a punch, then we get a lengthy flashback to her older brothers teaching her to punch properly... cut to the present, and [[spoiler:Ginny hits '''Cho''' right in the jaw - she knows Harry well enough that the situation looks exactly as it is to her.]]

* ''Series/GameOfThrones'': One reason why Jaime's killing of Aerys ruined his reputation is the fact that not only did he break his vows to protect him, but he did so when his father's army was in King's Landing. As a result, everyone thinks he did it to help Daddy and/or save his own skin. This is decidedly not the case.

* ''Manga/KarakuridoujiUltimo'' does this in chapter 3. Ultimo, has been seriously injured and, [[IdiotHero for some reason Yamato]] thinks that a robot boy is comparable to a fairytale princess. So Yamato decides a kiss is the only way to wake Ultimo up (why he felt the need to strip to his boxers and straddle him is beyond us), but doesn't actually have to go through with it, since Ultimo wakes up just in time. [[SatelliteLoveInterest Sayama]] walks in just in time to see a half naked Yamato on top of a very young looking boy who's crying (He was just happy Yamato was trying to help him). She jumped to the [[{{Shotacon}} obvious]] [[AttemptedRape conclusion]].

* In ''Manga/WorldEmbryo'' Riku's father comes home unexpectedly after a business trip. As he arrives, he notices Shizuru acts weird and seems to try to prevent him from entering part of the house. However, he has an urgent need to go to the toilet. He manages to get past her, opens the restroom door, and finds his son crouching down in front of the toilet, [[{{Lolicon}} holding down the underpants of a pre-pubescent girl]] sitting on the toilet who closely resembles Shizuru's sister Amane when she was a kid. Cue [[ICanExplain "It's a misunderstanding!" from Riku]].

-->'''Jesse''': How could you do that right in front of me?!
-->'''Rebecca''': [[EyeScream Joey had cream filling in his eye.]]
-->'''Joey''': You squeeze one and -- pffft.
-->'''Jesse''': So there's nothing going on between the two of you? Joey's just an idiot?
-->'''Joey''': Is there a third option? *beat* I need to wash out my eye.
