* Possibly the biggest example in shorts was "Good Night Elmer", which was Elmer Fudd ''alone''. And he had no dialogue, the cartoon being pretty much a mime act.

* ''Antarctic Journal'' has the six team members, and the woman back at home base. [[spoiler:Everyone else is either a corpse, a ghost, a hallucination, or all three.]]
* Ingmar Bergman's ''Film/{{Persona}}'' has only five actors [[spoiler:(and, depending on how you interpret the film, [[SplitPersonality possibly even fewer actual characters]])]], three of them only appearing briefly.

Another Bergman film, ''Film/ThroughAGlassDarkly'', has only four characters--the four people spending a beach weekend together--and doesn't even feature any extras.

* "The Farnsworth Parabox" episode of ''WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}}'' was designed as this, featuring only the Planet Express crew and their alternate counterparts as characters. This was in contrast to ''The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings'', in which the animators tried to fit in [[LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters every character who had appeared in the series]], as it was suspected that it would be the series finale.

* ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'':
** The BottleEpisode "Look Before You Sleep" has Applejack, Rarity, and Twilight be the only characters for the whole episode, except for a few background ponies that disappear after the opening seconds.
** "Party of One" only has the mane 6, Pinkie's pet alligator Gummy, Spike and Mrs. Cake, and the last two are only in one scene each, leaving only 7 characters in this episode. Not even any background ponies showed up.
** "Stare Master" has Fluttershy, Twilight, Rarity, and the three Cutie Mark Crusaders, along with some chickens and a cockatrice.
** "Baby Cakes" mostly only has Pinkie and the Cake twins, along with brief appearances by Mr and Mrs Cake and the rest of the mane six.
** "Castle Mane-ia" has only the mane six, Spike, Angel and the Mysterious Pony of Shadow [[spoiler:who's none other than Pinkie Pie,... until a real ghost appears at the end]].
** "Bats" just has the mane six, Spike and the titular bats. No background ponies.
** "Pinkie Apple Pie" has only Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Big Macintosh, Granny Smith and Apple Bloom, and later on, Goldie Delicious, with Twilight and Spike making a very brief appearance in the beginning.

* Plenty of real-life animals are explored on ''WesternAnimation/WildAnimalBabyExplorers'', but the only actual characters seen are Skip the rabbit, Sammy the skunk, Benita the beaver, Izzy the owl, and their mentor, Miss Sally, the salamander. That's it.

** In the extremely rare event that somebody apart from these characters is shown, they'll always be off-screen.

* In the opera ''Literature/TheTurnOfTheScrew'', the maximal on-stage ensemble consists of no more than the six main characters: the two children, the two ghosts, the Governess and Mrs. Grose. This does not include the Narrator, who disappears after the OpeningMonologue and is played by the same tenor as Quint by OriginalCastPrecedent.

* ''Series/{{MASH}}'' The episode "Hawkeye" (4-18). Hawkeye has been injured in a jeep accident, and aware that he is concussed, talks continuously (to keep himself awake) to the members of the Korean family who found him. None of the other regular or supporting members of the cast appear, and the Koreans are petty much {{Living Prop}}s, since they don't understand a word of English.
