Born on June 7, 1988 in Ontario, Eh, Michael Cera's career started in Canadian children's TV doing voiceover work for cartoons as well as live action comedies. His first major role in the U.S. was in the hit comedic show Series/ArrestedDevelopment. From there, Cera's career began to skyrocket, as Hollywood realized this guy was good at playing characters with an almost Charlie Brown-esque tone to them, and as the saying goes, "que Cera, Cera."

As a side note, he apparently liked the fight training he went through to prepare for Film/ScottPilgrimVsTheWorld so much that he's now studying martial arts for real. You have been warned.

!!Notable roles:
* Series/ArrestedDevelopment: George-Michael Bluth
* WesternAnimation/TheBerenstainBears: Brother Bear
* WesternAnimation/Braceface: Josh Spitz, Sharon's younger brother.
* Series/ChildrensHospital: The PA announcer.
* Film/Juno: Paulie Bleeker
* Film/NickAndNorahsInfinitePlaylist: Nick
* Film/YouthInRevolt: Nick Twisp and Francois Dillinger
* Film/ScottPilgrimVsTheWorld: Scott Pilgrim
* Film/Superbad: Evan
* Film/YearOne: Oh
* Film/ThisIsTheEnd: AsHimself

!!Notable memes inspired by Michael Cera's prancing:

* The Michael Cera School of Acting

!!This actor provides examples of:

* AdamWesting:
** The new season of WebVideo/BurningLove has his character playing up all of his typecasting.
** Film/ThisIsTheEnd takes it to a whole new level.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Yeah, he looks like a stiff wind could blow him over, but you know all that fight training he undertook for Film/ScottPilgrimVsTheWorld? Yeah... he decided he liked martial arts so much that he continued it afterward. He's a black belt now.
* Hipster: Related to his TypeCasting -- of the works in the "Film" section on the trope page, he's in three.
* IAmNotLeonardNimoy: Partially as a result of TypeCasting causing him to play practically the same character in every film.
* OnlySoManyCanadianActors: Avoided. The first and thus far only Toronto-based production he's been in was Scott Pilgrim.
* PlayingAgainstType: As of 2013 and 2014 he seems to be making a real concerted effort to do so. There were elements of this in Film/YouthInRevolt and Film/ScottPilgrimVsTheWorld, and since then his roles in films such as Film/ThisIsTheEnd, Magic Magic and Crystal Fairy have all been very different to his established type.
* Troll: He was a photobomber before photobombing really took off. He'd stand in the background of pictures to make people think the photos were fake because he was in them.
* TypeCasting: Many of his characters are a socially awkward teen/young adult who has trouble talking to girls. Even in Film/YearOne where he played a caveman he was still a nerd with a crush on a girl who's out of his league. On the other hand, there is Film/YouthInRevolt, where he plays a lovelorn awkward teenager who takes on a diametrically opposite alter-ego, both taken to comedic extremes.
** He's PlayingAgainstType in Film/ThisIsTheEnd in which he plays a lewd, cocaine-addicted jerkass version of himself
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: He was supposed to be brought for the third season of Series/VeronicaMars but was unavailable. The character who replaced him was revealed to be part of the rape plot which could have been some nice PlayingAgainstType for Cera.
