* After the [[TroubledProduction many growing pains]] and infamous launch that ''VideoGame/MightyNo9'' had to go through; Beck had changed from the face of successful Kickstarter games, to the face of what can go wrong with a Kickstarter game. Not helping matter was that this game was meant to be a SpiritualSuccessor to ''Franchise/MegaMan'' without Capcom's involvement. Worsened since Capcom had officially announced ''VideoGame/MegaMan11'', with the Blue Bomber himself taking the torch back.

** [[VideoGame/FireEmblemThracia776 Glade]] became notorious after ending up in the last place in Choose Your Legends 2017, the franchise-wide popularity contest of ''VideoGame/FireEmblemHeroes''. That is, in a series with [[LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters about 800 characters]]. Subverted in Choose Your Legends 2018, which saw him gain ''30 times'' as many votes as the previous contest and rise to the 352nd place, while giving the same dubious honour to [[VideoGame/FireEmblemGenealogyOfTheHolyWar Bloom]].

** Delphox in ''VideoGame/PokemonXAndY'', who is [[TierInducedScrappy mocked for not being as good as Greninja]]. It mainly suffers from a middling offensive typing, a lackluster hidden ability and PoorPredictableRock (Which is especially egregious since it's ''a sorcerer'', which normally have very diverse movesets in other games), but many now use the Kalos Fire Starter as an example of how far Psychic types have fallen since their [[GameBreaker reign of terror]] in Gen I.

** Popplio had similar reactions to Oshawott upon their reveal prior to the release of ''VideoGame/PokemonSunAndMoon''.

** Popplio had similar reactions to Oshawott upon their reveal prior to the release of ''VideoGame/PokemonSunAndMoon''. Just like Oshawott, this mostly dissipated when its evolve forms were revealed.
** Out of all the Starter Pokémon though, the one considered to be the absolute worst is Chikorita. In its [[VideoGame/PokemonGoldAndSilver debut game]], it does poorly against the majority of the challenges the game throws at you. It has ''no advantage'' against any of the Johto Gyms and Elite Four outside of one or two cases and does poorly against Team Rocket's Poison Pokémon. It also has poorly distributed stats (Its meant to be a MightyGlacier, but its pure Grass typing leaves it with a myriad of weaknesses) and a shallow movepool. About the only thing it has going for it is that its [[RidiculouslyCuteCritter very cute]] and remains so as it evolves.

** Zeed and pretty much any mohawk-wearing thug from ''Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar''. While they are a legitimate threat to the war-torn society, even the weaker martial artists don't even break a sweat slicing them to ribbons or [[YourHeadAsplode making their heads pop like balloons]]. Zeed deserves special mention for simply doing nothing during his fight but threaten to kill a little girl, watch his friends die, and let himself get pummeled to death by Kenshiro until his head explodes. But the most famous is FillerVillain [[MonsterOfTheWeek Garekki]] whose supposed deadly Martial Arts style involves putting himself in a cannon, and [[HumanCannonBall firing himself at people]].
Buronson, and Hara, the creators even asked the anime studio why they created such a silly martial arts.

* While not ''as'' maligned as Aquaman or Ant-Man, you'll find very few people outside of the fanbase willing to stick up for any version of ComicBook/{{Hawkman}}. The three share the same general problem: most people only know of them through team books, which more often than not have lineups based on PopularityPower[[note]]As well as its inverse; for most of its history, in fact, ComicBook/TheAvengers was thought of as a rest-home for heroes that couldn't hold a steady solo book.[[/note]] instead of any real in-story synergy. As a result, you'd often have at least two characters with overlapping powers/fighting styles, and whichever one had the bigger fanbase would often reduce the other guy to ThePoorMansSubstitute. A common joke in snarky retrospectives on ''Super Friends'' will run along the lines of "You've already got Superman and Green Lantern, why bother with everyone else?", which is a question that even more serious takes on the Justice League struggle to answer satisfactorily.

** Luigi is often put into this role due to being overshadowed by Mario and having a cowardly personality. However, he's also portrayed as a MemeticBadass, especially in ''VideoGame/MarioParty'' where he can [[ArtificialStupidity win by doing absolutely nothing]], but he's not given much credit for it by anyone. Sometimes he's just referred to as "Green Mario". This has actually worked out in Luigi's favor however. Fans have warmed up to him a lot and has evolved into an EnsembleDarkhorse, one of the most-loved underdogs in the community. So much so that Nintendo had [[ThrowTheDogABone dedicated 2013 to be the Year of Luigi]].
