Added DiffLines:

A midway point between this and PettingZooPeople is Borderline Little Bit Beastly. These have an animal-accented human face and body frame with the animal's ears, nose, tail (where applicable), markings, and covering. They have a mostly or nearly human-shaped head and little or no semblance of their species' muzzle. If they are a bird, they have the beak or bill respective to their species that is small regardless of their species on an otherwise human-shaped head. Please note that these types of characters are usually treated as PettingZooPeople, so any example of a Borderline LBB should go on that page.

Known in Japan as "kemonomimi" (roughly translating as "animal ears", but not so easy to spell), these are the most dramatically anthropomorphized characters, who appear virtually human, but feature the added characteristics of an animal's ears and tail. A Little Bit Beastly is not furry, and should still have human skin, a human face, a completely human nose, and a human skull and torso structure. Additional features like claws, horns, AnimalEyes, CuteLittleFangs, or the special abilities and/or instincts of that animal, may also be present. In-universe, they display the same mannerisms (including the need to wear clothes) as humans, but are generally considered a distinct species in their own right (demons being common), due to the general Squick of the alternative. Hair usually covers the sides of their heads at all times, avoiding the dilemma of whether they should have two sets of ears or a creepy-looking lack of humanlike ears.

figure), has a less animalistic-appearance than the other chimera that Ed and the gang eventually travel with, as he barely gains any fur and he still keeps his face-shape (Though somewhat justified as humans and gorillas are in the same biological family).

* Pretty much the entire cast of Anime/KemonoFriends is girls with set in a wildlife reserve-slash-amusement park where a substance called "Sandstar" has turned the animals into humanoids who are known as Friends. They have a few animal characteristics. The variety is limited standard kemonomimi traits from their original forms but are otherwise humans, including wearing clothing that they didn't know was removable until the TokenHuman told them so during the HotSpringsEpisode. Additionally, the show only depicts land animals and birds [[spoiler:though the LastEpisodeNewCharacter -- heard but not seen -- is apparently a dolphin [[AllThereInTheManual according to "terrestrial vertebrate".

** The snakelike Yuan-ti are just downright demonic. They are (in some versions) the descendants of humans who crossed their genes with those of snakes, and some of them still look almost exactly like humans and infiltrate human society accordingly. In several editions these are known as purebloods.

Added DiffLines:

** This is a relatively recent retcon. The original Thanagarians from the 1960s were ordinary-looking humanoids; their police force wore artificial wings as part of their uniform. A later post-Crisis retcon (in the comic Hawkworld) had the brown-feathered wings replaced by golden metallic ones that were more like bat wings, but were still part of a uniform. Eventually, one incarnation of Hawkman ended up with his own feathered wings. The concept of Thanagarians all having wings originated from the Justice League cartoon AFAIK.

Added DiffLines:

** Beast Boy doesn't really satisfy this trope in the comics, as opposed to the cartoons, since the only unusual thing about him when in human form is that he's green. He has no animal characteristics or features until he transforms into an animal shape, when he fully becomes that animal in physical form -- except that the animal is green.
