* Subverted in the Literature/AsbjornsenAndMoe fairy tale ''Frik with the fiddle''. Our hero is about to be hanged, sitting on a ladder with the noose around his neck. His last request is to play a tune on his fiddle. He is saved because the fiddle is magic and gets everyone who listens to get up and dance, and ''nobody'' can deny him the first thing he asks for.
