Koei is a video game company best known for its historically-based (and [[VeryLooselyBasedOnATrueStory loosely-based]]) video games, especially those set in feudal China or Japan. They made their name in Japan with TurnBasedStrategy games, but outside Japan by far the most successful of their games is the ''Warriors'' franchise of HackAndSlash games (which includes ''VideoGame/DynastyWarriors'', ''VideoGame/SamuraiWarriors'' and the crossover ''VideoGame/WarriorsOrochi'').

The company also distributes games from NipponIchi's catalog in North America and Europe. As of 2010, they have merged with {{Tecmo}}, and the resulting company is known as "Tecmo Koei Corporation".
