* Pan Dachshund is one of the sample characters in TabletopGame/Pugmire and is one of the two characters (along with the more idealistic Yosha Pug) who BreakTheFourthWall throughout the rule book by explaining details and concepts to the reader. He's grumpy, cynical and doesn't believe any of this crap about the sacred legacy of Precursors Man or the inherent nobility of Pugmire, but he'll fight any monster who threatens honest dogs, because that's just the right thing to do.

* Sufferers of depression often become something of a real-world equivelant of this if they survive and overcome the disorder. Prolonged depression tend to give people a more negative outlook on life, but many act in a selflessly and joyous manner to compensate.

* LawAndOrderSpecialVictimsUnit ran afoul of this in its earliest seasons with a cast that could almost be described as a cluster of rain clouds who live and breath sarcasm and misanthropy, and even the guest cast of suspects and crossover cast had nothing to add but more rain. Some episodes seemed to be a reminder how everyone hated life. Until the show started to get out of its funk in later seasons.

(Probably justified in a show focused on "especially heinous" assault and even abuse cases.) Even the guest cast of suspects and crossover cast had nothing to add but more rain. ** Jaime Lannister is much closer to this as of Season 4. For a long time, he was scornful of the double standards of chivalry as far as how Westeros regards his "kingslaying" and how in their eyes, he's dishonored himself for all time. Despite this, Jaime does value the Kingsguard and does aspire to the example of the likes of Ser Barristan. He tells his father, Tywin, that while he has soured his honor for killing a king, he won't sour it by abandoning the Kingsguard altogether.

* Chris Redfield in the Franchise/ResidentEvil games slowly grows into this. After surviving the mansion incident in VideoGame/ResidentEvil, he makes plans to bring down Umbrella for good. Fast forward by a decade, Chris works in the B.S.A.A. in VideoGame/ResidentEvil5 where he questions if everything he's doing to combat bioterrorism is worth it. By the end of the game, he concludes that protecting the world is worth it. In VideoGame/ResidentEvil6, he is the sole survivor of his squad that was attacked in a nasty ambush and he blames himself for it. He spends the rest of the game with a sour outlook on the world wondering how he's still fighting after spending more than half of his life dedicated to the cause, but still does his best to fight for what's right since he's the only one that has years of experience and there's no one else suited for the job like him. At the end of his story, he shakes off his bitter attitude and continues the fight on bioterrorism with a more positive outlook.

* Devil May Cry'S series Protagonist Dante based on his tragic past, his family troubles and basically living in endless poverty has a live and let live sorta view on justice, Dante basically lives life on his own terms and besides devoting his life to stopping demons, he's a jerk with a snappy one liner ready to distance his involvement with getting to close with people and barely has a care of the world outside of stopping the demonic invasion of the week. Regardless, He will still fight the good fight.

* Film/BatmanVSupermanDawnOfJustice: Batman himself is depicted as such in the film. After twenty years of crimefighting, alongside the death of Robin and witnessing the destruction caused by the fight between Superman and General Zod, Batman has become quite jaded and cynical, to the extent that he throws himself into trying to kill Superman, despite Alfred telling him it's suicide, believing that it'll be the only thing he does that truly matters.
-->Alfred: Twenty years of fighting criminals amounts to nothing?\\
Bruce: Criminals are like weeds, Alfred; pull one up, another grows in its place.
