Fearing that he would never make it down the stairs in time, he released his guide dog Dorado from his harness so that the animal might have a chance to escape. The dog ''came back'', nudged and pawed at him until it was finally obvious he was not leaving without his master, and led him down 70 flights of stairs to safety.
