* The ''VideoGame/{{Metroid}}'' community gets its share of hacks too, and with SturgeonsLaw in place you can enjoy such thing as the masterful (and [[PlatformHell difficult]]) ''[[http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/131/ Super Metroid Redesign]]'', the brilliantly atmospheric Super Metroid Eris, or the complete level overhaul of ''[[http://www.zophar.net/hacks/nes/metroid-12/Metroid-X-205.html Metroid X]]''.
** If you wanted a hair-ripping hack, try your hands at ''[[http://m2k2.taigaforum.com/post/sm_super_metroid_impossible.html Super Metroid: Impossible.]]'' This is made by the person who developed the under-two hour tool-assisted speedrun for Redesign, a mod that typically takes as long as ''MetroidPrime.''

* Having character {{Cameo}} appearances in games continues to be a popular hobby among amateur modders, particularly with FirstPersonShooter and WideOpenSandbox games. * ''VideoGame/FireEmblem'' games -- particularly the UsefulNotes/GameBoyAdvance installments -- are very mod friendly as far as non-PC games go, to the point where there are [[http://www.feshrine.net/hacking/nightmare.php entire sets]] [[http://www.feshrine.net/hacking/utilities.php of tools]] that help make modding them even easier. * ''VideoGame/GuitarHero'' has a rather active modding community focusing around custom songs: the use of an MP3 and a custom note chart to create songs not on the game disk. Said community was the inspiration for the custom song feature in ''World Tour''.

* ''VideoGame/DarkSouls'' had its fair share of mods after being ported to PC. It's mostly new textures for weapons, armors and characters (including the obligatory nude mod), some HUD changes and fixes for better connectivity.

It's mostly new textures for weapons, armors and characters (including the obligatory nude mod), some HUD changes and fixes for better connectivity. The rest of the mods are focused on making the game [[HarderThanHard even harder than it already is]], such as the obligatory item location randomizer, and "Estus Quest", which is the normal game except your primary healing item is locked behind ''the BonusBoss of the DLC'', and on top of that you are also afflicted with a permanent take-double-damage debuff until you beat him.

* Final Fantasy VI: Brave New World is an very popular mod which overhauls [=FF6=] to be a more balanced experience. The only issue is the script, which is more profane and was clearly written by a neckbeard trying to be edgy. It's a recurring issue with these mods/hacks: The changes in gameplay and general mechanics tend to be inventive and worth it, but the dialog is almost always cringe-worthy. Beware hacks that advertise "adult language". (This is also why many people refuse to play Bob-Omb Mafia or the Mario is a Drug Addict hacks.)

** Another notable type of mod for Fallout 2 is one that makes [[JokeCharacter Miria]] a legitimate companion, allowing her to level up and gain combat skills, even giving her a romance arc with the main character. Somewhat amusingly, no such mods exist for [[TheScrappy Davin]].

* ''[[NexusWar Nexus Clash]]'' players have cooked up a wide range of [[http://www.nexusclash.com/wiki/index.php/Extensions extensions]] that substantially improve the interface of the game. One player combined them into a single [[http://www.nexusclash.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=7291 conglomerated]] extension that draws on the benefits of all the rest, which most veteran players now use.

** The ''[[http://www.nexusmods.com/masseffect3/mods/350/ Expanded Galaxy Mod]]'' is an ambitious project that was started by the users at the [=ME3Explorer=] forum, and introduces a wide range of content that dramatically overhauls the game. Not only do you gain the ability to take ''any'' of your squadmates from ''VideoGame/MassEffect2'' on N7 missions, but they have new armors to wear. You now receive an OldSaveBonus of all your weapons from the previous game in a secure chest aboard the Normandy, and can purchase and unlock additional weapons and armors throughout the game. The requirements for the GoldenEnding are now harder to achieve, and the galaxy dynamically changes as you progress through the story -- some War Assets are permanently lowered by fighting and skirmishes, and other, new assets have been placed throughout the planets. The Normandy is completely redesigned -- not only does it now have a shooting range and additional upgrade capabilities, but you can actually recruit additional crew members, including more medics, a barman, a sushi chef, more engineers and even Miranda(!) if you complete a mission in a certain way. There are also new sidequests and missions, including a HarderThanHard "Evacuation of Thessia" mission where you're tasked with flying the Normandy around the planet to rescue fleeing refugees and key assets before the Reapers catch you. Crew members can be invited up to the captain's cabin at any time, and there's additional romance content for certain characters like Liara. There are even special achievements and shuttle bay items depending on the player's decisions during the story and[=/=] what they've done in the previous games.
