Fixer Sue can be just anything and everything so long as he or she gets the results desired. A GodModeSue comes in and ceremoniously kills off the LoveDodecahedron outside of the OTP? Hey, that works. A SympatheticSue {{wangst}}s about how her (non)canon sister is depressed and unloved, inspiring the protagonist to choose her instead? That also works. This is also often done in a tongue-in-cheek manner (for example, a ParodySue shows up and makes the hero realize how much he really hates extremely girly women and goes for the tomboyish childhood friend).

The Fixer Sue is a unique entity in the MarySue class in that he or she was never meant as a character so much as a plot device. They may or may not represent the author, but what they do is use their magical plot altering powers to get things "back on track" in the eyes of the author. The plot still bends over backwards to accommodate the character, but instead of it being done for the greater glory of the author, it's to get to a particular end within the canon. Once the character is done fixing all the "problems", he or she will usually get unceremoniously removed (either by death, being PutOnABus, or just getting downgraded to a minor character).

This can still happen within a canon itself, but it's quite rare. Still, maybe the author just ended up hating a particular path that was taken and decides to go head over heels during the AuthorsSavingThrow. Alternatively, the character might just exist as a walking DeusExMachina and the story surrounding him or her is based around "fixing" every perceived social wrong. Characters prone to this include the BlitheSpirit, the MagicalNegro and TheDrifter WalkingTheEarth.

!!Examples:
[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:Canon]]
* ''Series/{{Heroes}}'':
** Arthur Petrelli took away Peter's endless supply of powers and also managed to get rid of the hated Maya.
** Matt Parkman Jr. seemed to be introduced to give Hiro his powers back and get Matt back with Janice (which no one wanted).
* In ''Literature/TheVampireDiaries'', Bonnie seems to exist to be a living AuthorsSavingThrow to keep the show going.
* Stocke in ''VideoGame/RadiantHistoria'' is an in-universe example. Inevitable disasters are always narrowly averted, he makes flawless tactical decisions, and makes counterintuitive strategic calls that by all logic should sink his side but always end up being the perfect course of action. Other characters constantly comment on this. Since the player controls Stocke, though, they are well aware that he does this by experiencing the disasters the first time around, and then using the [[TimeTravel White Chronicle]] to go back and use future knowledge to change the outcome.
* In ''Literature/ColdComfortFarm'', Flora Poste is a satire of various Fixer Sues in the popular rural literature of the time: a wise-beyond-her-years heroine who comes to save her poor troubled relations from themselves--except that rather than saving them through patience, love, and self-sacrifice, Flora does it by introducing them to fashion magazines and birth control.
* In the ''LightNovel/HaruhiSuzumiya'' novels, the character Yasumi appears just in time to save the protagonists from [[spoiler:Fujiwara]]'s plot and reconcile the timeline. There is a very good reason for this: [[spoiler:she's an avatar of Haruhi who was created specifically to do this. Naturally, she has a degree of Haruhi's powers and omniscience]]. After Yasumi's purpose is achieved, she fades into the story's background and no longer interacts with the protagonists.
* In the early chapters of ''Manga/FruitsBasket'', Tohru mostly serves as a catalyst for the Sohmas' CharacterDevelopment (being an outsider who encourages them to seek freedom from [[BigBad Akito]]). The second half of the story focuses on her and explores ''why'' she feels so [[ExtremeDoormat invested]] in making others happy. [[spoiler:The reason isn't a good one]].
* ''Literature/TheSevenPercentSolution'' by Nicholas Meyer is a ''Literature/SherlockHolmes'' fic bizarrely combining this with using a historical character as PossessionSue. You see, ''actually'' Franchise/SherlockHolmes was just a delusional junkie. And the one desperately needed there is all-shiny... who? [[spoiler:Dr. Sigmund Freud!]] Yes, just like that.
* In ''Series/PersonOfInterest'' once she joins the forces of good, Root qualifies. Interestingly, she is also this in-universe. Because she had a direct line to The Machine, she is able to intervene at the optimal time to save the day on a regular basis.
* In ''Series/{{Supernatural}}'' the alternate archangel Michael (from the Apocalypse World where the Winchesters were never born) exists purely to dethrone Lucifer as the new BigBad. He even [[DePower de-powers]] Lucifer in order to keep him as a regular character on the show and keep him from being the InvincibleVillain from way back in Season 5, so that the show writers don't have to think of convoluted ways that Lucifer doesn't just turn the heroes to dust as soon as he sees them.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Fan Works]]
* ''VideoGame/StarFox'' usually has either Falco or Wolf be Fixer Sues in order to "rescue" Fox from Krystal. Strangely enough, another rising example is the {{retcon}}ned Miyu, a female lynx, from ''Star Fox 2.'' There are at least two fanfics (by the same author, no less) where Miyu "saves" Fox from an abusive-ized Krystal; one of them even has her express belief that, though he's a fox and she's a lynx, they can reproduce and have children, even though they're two entirely different species.
** This also works in reverse: Fox himself becomes a Fixer in order to get Krystal back from [[RomanticFalseLead Panther]], who is attracted to her. Expect Panther [[MisaimedFandom to be demonized as a womanizer and a rapist,]] even though when he ''does'' get together with Krystal in ''Star Fox Command,'' he is rather devoted to her, or at least is respectable towards her, the same of which cannot be said for Fox in the same game, who openly neglects her.
** Alternatively, [[ComicStrip/StarFox Fara Phoenix]] shows up to utterly kick the backside of anyone standing between her and Fox [[NewPowersAsThePlotDemands (despite being a civilian)]]. Also expect Krystal to DieForOurShip.
* A lot of ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'' fanfics will introduce a Fixer Sue or turn an already existing character into one in order to save Sakura. It doesn't do much for the quality of the fics, or fan opinion on Sakura in general.
* There are a high number of ''Franchise/SailorMoon'' fanfics that try to remove the [[OfficialCouple canon]] [[SchoolgirlLesbians lesbianism]] of [[{{Bifauxnen}} Haruka]] and [[{{Ojou}} Michiru]]. Most of them just [[CharacterDerailment turn Haruka]] [[PsychoLesbian into an evil butch pervert]] [[DieForOurShip who abuses Michiru]] and create a dashing [[RelationshipSue Gary Stu]] to make Michiru heterosexual. The most infamous example, however, was cooked up by the notorious Save Our Sailors website, which actually [[PossessionSue used]] ''Haruka'' as the Fixer Sue and tried to pass it off as canon. Their story claimed that there was a Prince of Uranus in the past that was Sailor Uranus' brother and Michiru's past lover, whom Sailor Uranus passed her powers onto when she died and caused him to be reincarnated as a woman that still loved Michiru. Therefore it wasn't ''really'' homosexuality because Haruka was ''[[DiscountLesbians really]]'' [[DiscountLesbians a boy]]. Cue InternetBackdraft and loss of what little credibility they ever had! (Naoko Takeuchi [[WordOfGod has gone on record]] saying that Haruka is not and never has been a man, but when has ''that'' stopped anyone?)
** The long-dead Queen Serenity gets used like this a ''lot'' in ''Sailor Moon'' fics. Her powers will be boosted from being simply powerful to [[GodModeSue basically being Jesus and making miracles]], then, because she's dead, she will poof away once her job is done and the author doesn't have to even come up for a plausible exit for her. Because Queen Serenity ''is'' such a legendary figure in the canon, all the characters will accept whatever she did as correct, even if the fix applied is something that would have appalled them in canon. Like say... a fix fic that tried to correct Haruka and Michiru by having Queen Serenity appear and "correct" Haruka's gender to male, which is regarded positively by everyone involved.
* The number of [[PortmanteauCoupleName Harmonian]]-written ''Franchise/HarryPotter'' fanfic that feature an adult Harry going back in time to "fix things." These are mainly things like hooking Harry up with Hermione (who gets derailed into a PuritySue who can do no wrong even if she acts like a bitch) and making sure that Ginny Weasley (a character more hated than Voldemort among Harmonian circles) is revealed to be the [[{{Yandere}} conniving untrustworthy back-stabbing psycho-bitch]] [[DieForOurShip that the Harmonian community wishes J. K. Rowling had written her to be]].
** Not to mention the kind of crap that gets inflicted on {{Ron|TheDeathEater}}.
** [[Fanfic/MyImmortal Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way]] takes this to {{Reality Warp|er}}ing levels.
** [[Fanfic/{{Dangerverse}} Gertrude "Danger" Granger]] is directly or indirectly responsible for making Lupin lucid during his transformations, kidnapping young!Harry from the Dursleys and raising him in a stable environment, breaking Sirius out of Azkaban six months after his initial capture, cursing the Dursleys with LaserGuidedKarma, raising Draco as one of the good guys, causing Fudge to resign from the Ministry...and all that is just in ''Living With Danger''. There's a reason the series as a whole is called the "Dangerverse".
* The ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'' fanfic "[[http://www.darkscribes.org/stories/30070 Higher Learning]]" stars Kaoru Miyazaki, a KidFromTheFuture Fixer Sue masquerading as a teacher for the main characters. Watch as he thwarts the nefarious plans of the TheOmniscientCouncilOfVagueness and the MagnificentBastard, heals the ''severe'' psychological problems of the teen heroes and seduce their BunnyEarsLawyer caretaker; and marvel at the enormous popularity this fic had with the MarySue-hating crowd back when the ''Evangelion'' fandom was alive! [[spoiler: He was also an alternate universe Shinji, more or less, who basically went back in time with the express intent of fixing things.]] Though, admittedly, the fic was still quite good when compared to ''other'' Fixer Sue fics.
* In the ''WesternAnimation/{{Metalocalypse}}'' fanfic [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3918028/1/New_Roommate New Roommate]], Alexis Ofdensen (yeah, she's his daughter; you can see where this is going) overlaps quite a few Sue types, but at her core is a Fixer Sue. The [[http://lunafoxgoddess.deviantart.com/art/New-Roommate-69462478 author's notes]] suggest that the character and story were created in order to counteract the number of Dethklok [[SlashFic slash stories and art]] already published. She exists mainly to have nice, heterosexual sex with every member of the band in order to counterbalance the perceived HoYay within the series. [[SarcasmMode It worked whenever they were shown having sex with women in the show, right?]]
* Shioshiro Himiya, from the ''Anime/WeissKreuz'' fanfic [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2065398/1/ Kind des Schicksals]], is another KidFromTheFuture Stu - the child of Aya Fujimiya and Ken Hidaka, both of whom are ''male'' and don't like each other much - who conveniently knows the entire plotline and comes back in time to save Weiss and Schwarz from the evils of [[OddlyNamedSequel2ElectricBoogaloo Weiss Kreuz Gluhen]]. His presence is the answer to just about every issue the characters have, no matter how deep-rooted, and once his purpose - to warp the story into a {{fangirl}}-approved shape and get [[YaoiFangirl fan-favorite]] [[OneTruePairing pairings]] to hook up BecauseDestinySaysSo - is fulfilled, he conveniently dies. This fic is also absurdly popular. Though one wonders if it would be as popular if Shioshiro had been 1) a girl and 2) someone else's child.
* Every OriginalCharacter or AscendedExtra in Creator/CoriFalls's ''{{Anime/Pokemon}}'' fanfiction exists solely to make sure everyone knows how perfect and special her version of Jessie, James and Meowth are and that Ash Ketchum is stripped of any positive qualities to prove what he "really" is.
* There are dozens of ''Series/{{iCarly}}'' fics for the Sam/Freddie BelligerentSexualTension styled ''Seddie'' ship, where a Fixer Sue shows up as a long-lost sister or cousin of Freddie, and immediately helps Sam and Freddie hook up.
** [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6906423/1/iCarlys_Father iCarly's Father]] has Col. Shay as a Fixer Sue.
* There are ''Film/TheRockyHorrorPictureShow'' fanfics out there that feature a fan-character (often a female) bringing Dr. Frank N Furter back from the dead and/or simply going back in time to prevent him from being killed in the first place.
** Another common sort of ''Rocky Horror'' fic is essentially the Fixer Sue [[InvertedTrope in reverse]]; the character in question is Frank's good heterosexual lover from back home on Transsexual, who invariably dies tragically, causing Frank to snap and become a bisexual transvestite. The UnfortunateImplications of this are oft pointed out by sporkers.
* A good number of Rose shippers in the ''Series/DoctorWho'' fandom use Bad Wolf [[spoiler:(the omnipotent goddess Rose became for a few minutes at the end of season 1)]] as a frequent Fixer Sue to get her back with the Doctor.
** And let's not forget that [[http://spoon300.deviantart.com/gallery/31302955 Doctor Who crossover manga]] that used crossovers to [[CanonImmigrant insert an older sister]] into the [[Manga/FullmetalAlchemist Elric Family]] embedded with [[VideoGame/NightsIntoDreams Ideya]] [[AppliedPhlebotinum tattoos]], that somehow flings them beyond the gate and makes their mother the [[SparedbytheAdaptation first successful human Transmutation]], but when she tries to pull them back home, her right arm becomes the EldritchAbomination we've come to know and love. Ed's more or less the same, Al left behind a hand and a foot... and Ed tethers the now [[UnPerson non-existent]] soul of [[WesternAnimation/TheFairlyOddParents Timmy Turner]] to the familiar armor in the corner.
** Clara Oswald becomes this in-universe, and it's lampshaded to heck - although in plot terms it amounts to little more than "explaining" a bunch of old {{Hand Wave}}s with a different HandWave.
** The Doctor himself can sometimes become this in Crossover fanfics, though all things considered, it's somewhat expected.
* The ''VisualNovel/SchoolDays'' short fanfiction ''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5152764/1/School_days_The_Guardian_Angel The Guardian Angel]]'' is a mild version of this, but it is kinda a MarySueClassic and a PairTheSpares fic. Haiko Nai is an 18-year-old trained-from-childhood bodyguard (but otherwise completely normal) hired by a unknown client to protect Sekai, Kotonoha, and Makoto. [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot The plot's rather vague in regard as to who the client is or Haiko's backstory.]] Anyway, he infiltrates the school, after a few mishaps quickly becomes friends with them (due to a RunningGag involving sandwiches), saves Sekai from a drunk driver and thus earning school-wide fame, sheepishly suggests that Kotonoha take Taisuke to the festival (whereupon Taisuke immediately confesses his love to her), and forms a close relationship with Setsuna. When Sekai storms off after finding out Makoto was cheating on her, he follows and gets stabbed trying to stop her from killing Makoto. He goes into a coma from blood loss, and wakes up three months later right after being pronounced effectively dead, much to the utter joy of his new friends. Predictably, they lived HappilyEverAfter.
* A truly terrible FixFic of the American ''Series/{{The Office|US}}'' written somewhere around season 3 features Jim's "best friend" who promptly shows up and hangs around the office for no reason other then to fix everyone's problems. Naturally she gets Jim and Pam, and all the other couples, together. And when she started calling out Michael and Dwight on their character flaws, she started taking away things that made ''the comedy series'' funny!
* Just about half of all ''Film/{{Newsies}}'' fics ever written involve a girl who watches ''Newsies'' and then time-travels back to 1899 via a "magic paper", and uses her knowledge of the plot to remove Sarah from the storyline and hook Jack and David up (or just hook up with one of the newsies herself).
* It's common in fics based on the film version of ''Film/TheLeagueOfExtraordinaryGentlemen'' to introduce a female OC, whose purpose is either to facilitate a slash pairing between two of the guys or to hook up herself with whichever of the team the author found most attractive. Or both.
* In the otherwise good ''WesternAnimation/InvaderZim'' fic (it was on the FanFicRecs!) [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4627351/35/Invader_Zim_The_Series Invader Zim: The Series,]] original character Nick is said to be a Fixer Sue (by ''ComicBook/JohnnyTheHomicidalManiac'', to be exact). It should be noted that [[spoiler: until the end,]] his efforts were unsuccessful, and while he makes friends with most of the canon characters, he also gets his fair share of crap dumped on him too.
* In many ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'' fanfics, Ranma Saotome is made into a Fixer Sue of sorts. This would make sense since probabilities would become warped and wild things would occur whenever he's around.
** It's not uncommon in ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'' fics for Ranma to have an unknown cousin, brother, uncle or ancestor[[note]]usually on Nodoka's side of the family to avoid Genma having anything cool[[/note]] who suddenly appears and solves all of his problems.
** On the other side, the entire length of canon couldn't solve ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf'''s LoveDodecahedron, but one mediocre fight with a Fixer Sue collapses the whole thing, quickly and neatly. A great number of fics start off with one of the girls in mortal peril from some new enemy, and it is only after he rescues her that Ranma finally realizes how important she really is to him. Then the majority of the story is actually spent tying off all the romantic loose ends.
* Any time Bass is featured in a [[WesternAnimation/MegaMan Ruby-Spears Mega Man]] fic, there's a good chance he'll be one of these; his primary purpose is to make [[TheDragon Proto Man]] leave Wily (for whatever reason the author sees fit) and force the cartoon to be a different-looking Capcom-''[[VideoGame/MegaManClassic Mega Man]]''. Then he tends to drop off the face of the Earth. [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot Arg.]]
* There is a certain ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer'' fanfic out there which cranks this trope to the highest level. A woman from the "real world" pretty much descends like an angel from heaven into the Magic Box and proceeds to spend chapter upon chapter spouting off about how wonderful [[DracoInLeatherPants Spike]] is, making him out to be the sweetest, most courageous boy ever and verbally tearing down anyone who stands in the way of this new worldview. [[ShipperOnDeck (And the Spike/Buffy ship.)]] This, of course, means that [[DerailingLoveInterests Riley and Angel]] are {{r|onTheDeathEater}}evealed as a [[FantasticRacism speciesist]] sociopath and a vicious, egotistical [[YouKeepUsingThatWord pedophile]], respectively. The Fixer Sue flat out says that she hates Riley and thinks he's boring, but gets a thin guise of "trying to help Angel"... for about three minutes, before listing every way he's terrible. (A majority of these reasons are blown way, way out of proportion or just made up "psychological" analysis.) They are exiled by the "enlightened" Scoobies, who may have ripped them apart with their bare hands if the author had deemed it fitting drama. It gets worse after that.
* ''Parodied in [[http://wayback.archive.org/web/20130705220140/http://www.asynjor.com/fanfic/ornstead.html Otaku Three - EVA Revolution]]'', where a MartyStu tries to derail ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion'' not through sheer badassitude or XanatosSpeedChess, but instead by feigning WrongGenreSavvy until he turns the series into a SuperRobot show. Hilarity Ensues.
* As in Ranma fics, ''Manga/LoveHina'' has ''many'' involving Keitaro suddenly having a brother or cousin who shows up to fix the story.
* ''Marauder Shields'' revolves around a Fixer Sue - the titular character appears out of nowhere solely to put down the [[Franchise/MassEffect former]] {{p|layerCharacter}}rotagonist who [[CharacterDerailment has become indoctrinated out of nowhere]][[note]]this is based on a [[TomatoInTheMirror long-standing theory in the Mass Effect fandom]] that the fanfic otherwise entirely fails to connect itself with[[/note]], no matter how little sense the Marauder's existence makes. Other characters magically know that Marauder Shields isn't a bad guy, despite having just shot Commander Shepard and having no distinguishing features from any other Marauder.
* In the ''Time Loops'' genre, Awake characters spend half the time using their foreknowledge to fix bad events and solve canonical conflicts more efficiently. The rest of the time, they use their foreknowledge to set up epic pranks.
* In ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/10030194/23/Warrior-s-Couple-s-Counseling Warrior's Couple's Counseling]]'', Bumblestripe is experiencing a HeroicBSOD because his girlfriend- that [[RonTheDeathEater arrogant, slutty, airheaded Dovewing]]- used to be in a relationship with Tigerheart. Fortunately, Silverstream is there to remind him of just how hateful Dovewing is...and within ''one paragraph'', Bumblestripe has stopped crying, realized what a bitch Dovewing is, [[CleaningUpRomanticLooseEnds and decided]] that Ivypool is 'the one'. [[SarcasmMode Wow, heartbreak is so easy to solve!]]
-->Bumblestripe thinks about it for a moment, lying on the floor of the counseling room.
-->"I did have a crush on Ivypool…" He says slowly, "And she's really nice to me. And brave. And strong. And smart. I think, actually, she may be the one." The tom finishes, looking up at Silverstream for approval.
* Tellygunge (the author) was actually quite keen on doing {{Fix Fic}}s himself, and would attempt to rectify lost female [[CoveredInGunge WAM]]. One example, ''[[http://tellygunge.wordpress.com/2011/02/25/rachel-stevens-revisits-da-bungalow/ Rachael Stevens revisits da Bungalow]]'', turns Dick and Dom into Fixer Stus who successfully hijack Steven's new show, and thoroughly humiliate her in the process by commencing her missing gunging.
** This would be done again in [[http://tellygunge.wordpress.com/2011/11/06/dhp-episode-3-slimefall-the-new-bond-girls/ Davina's House Party Episode 3]], where, in a James Bond parody,[[note]]At the time, ''Film/{{Skyfall}}'' had been announced, and would be released one year later[[/note]] Stevens threatens to dunk the duo (who are not Fixer Stus this time), only to be attacked by Davina, who gets her messy, and traps her in a vat of custard.
* The ''Film/SkyHigh2005'' fic ''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/2737570/1/Don-t-Mess-With-a-Peace Don't Mess with a Peace]]'' has Chris Peace, Warren's never-before seen sister with [[WesternAnimation/TeenTitans Beast Boy's]] power set. Over the course of the story, she blatantly disregards rules set in place about the usage of superpowers, helps Warren and Layla realize they're [[FanPreferredCouple meant to be]], and [[spoiler:performs a HeroicSacrifice to [[DieForOurShip kill]] a newly [[RonTheDeathEater Death Eater'd]] Will.]]

** The long-dead Queen Serenity gets used like this a ''lot'' in ''Sailor Moon'' fics. Her powers will be boosted from being simply powerful to being capable of nothing short of [[GodModeSue divine miracles]], then, because she's dead, she will poof away once her job is done and the author doesn't have to even come up for a plausible exit for her.

* Shioshiro Himiya, from the ''WeissKreuz'' fanfic [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2065398/1/ Kind des Schicksals]], is another KidFromTheFuture Stu - the child of Aya Fujimiya and Ken Hidaka, both of whom are ''male'' and don't like each other much - who conveniently knows the entire plotline and comes back in time to save Weiss and Schwarz from the evils of [[OddlyNamedSequel2ElectricBoogaloo Weiss Kreuz Gluhen]]. This fic is also absurdly popular. Though one wonders if it would be as popular if Shioshiro had been 1) a girl and 2) someone else's child.

* In ''Series/PersonOfInterest'' once she joins the forces of good, Root qualifies. Interestingly, she is also this in-universe. Because she had a direct line to The Machine, she is able to intervene at the optimal time to save the day on a regular basis.

* A lot of ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'' fanfics will introduce a FixerSue or turn an already existing character into one in order to save Sakura.
The most infamous example, however, was cooked up by the notorious Save Our Sailors website, which actually [[PossessionSue used]] ''Haruka'' as the FixerSue and tried to pass it off as canon.

** Another common sort of ''Rocky Horror'' fic is essentially the FixerSue [[InvertedTrope in reverse]]; the character in question is Frank's good heterosexual lover from back home on Transsexual, who invariably dies tragically, causing Frank to snap and become a bisexual transvestite. The UnfortunateImplications of this are oft pointed out by sporkers.
