Somewhat similar to FakeOutOpening but distinct, this is when the story starts with what appears to be a probably over-the-top ActionPrologue, but after it's been going on for a while, maybe PlayedForLaughs, it's cut short. It's then revealed that this sequence was AllJustADream, a daydream, a ShowWithinAShow, a simulated test, or similar. Whatever the case, the beginning is revealed not to have been real, and the actual story now begins on a more restrained note. May be used among other things for when the main character is a loser who only dreams of becoming the kind of BadAss they're acting like in the imaginary prologue.

* Sort of half used in Disney/Bolt, which starts out looking like a typical girl-meets-dog story that suddenly turns into a Michael Bay-esque action film about an AnimalSuperhero. It all turns out to be a ShowWithinAShow, which Bolt believes is real. His gradual realization that everything he knows is wrong, and his need to understand what reality actually is, drive the film's plot.
