* As far as one's concerned, Website/TheEscapist's only contributor is Yahtzee Croshaw. Over time, this joke started to hold more and more truth, though; creators like Jim Sterling and Critical Miss have left the site, and as of 2017 Yahtzee is pretty much the ONLY contributor still creating videos for the site. For a good long while the Escapist content calendar had nothing on it except Yahtzee's two ongoing series and the weekly Escapist streams which are often staffed by Yahtzee.

* An episode of Series/JonathanCreek involves Jonathan trying to help out his favourite musician, who was once on a 1970s prog-rock band called "Edwin Drood". While he still achieved success after the band split up, the story also shows us his former bandmates, who are slogging away in various levels of self-deluding obscurity and bitterness.

Depending on the genre, the person linked to the band will inevitably go solo, and the rest of the band will often fade into obscurity afterwards.

afterwards. And in a few cases, this is enforced from the get-go, where the "face" actually owns the name. For example, "Five for Fighting" sure sounds like the name of a band, but it's actually the stage name of singer-songwriter Jon Ondrasik. Anyone else who happens to be playing with him is just a hired musician.

Also, no points are given out to tropers for knowing the names of all the band members who are NOT the Face of the Band, so don't list them. This trope refers to the general public, of course you can probably name all the members of your favorite band, but casual fans usually don't. This is not a game of "Hahaha, I can name all the members of The Moody Blues and you can't, so I'm superior!" So don't add that stuff in, please.

* In a non-music example, Creator/JohnRomero was this for IdSoftware at the height of their VideoGame/Doom-based popularity. This was encouraged by the other company members, who preferred to avoid the spotlight anyway.

* A Series/Seinfeld episode pokes fun at the fact that two of the Three Tenors (Pavarotti and Domingo) are considerably better known than the third one (Jose Carreras). Of course, at the end of the episode they find a character who knows Carreras "and those other two guys".

** When the comic’s main band, the Troublemakers, finally acquire their name, drummer Yuki and bassist Sonya, who have their differences but share a fondness for lead guitarist Zii, insist that it really should be “Zii and the Troublemakers”. And certainly, the audience at their first gig seem to have a lot of regard for Zii personally.
** Later, Zii’s arch-rival Angel unilaterally declares that the Pretty Boyz with Electric Toyz are henceforth going to be known as Angel and Their Electric Toyz. Angel may have some ego issues.

* This happens outside the music industry. Bet you can't name more than two men who walked on the moon.

* The leaders of the Soviet Union. Pretty much everyone knows Lenin and Stalin, and most people should also be able to name Khrushchev, Brezhnev and Gorbachev; but just how few can name all eight? The other three were Georgy Malenkov, wedged between Stalin and Khrushchev; Yuri Andropov, who followed Brezhnev; and Konstantin Chernenko, who replaced Andropov and preceded Gorbachev. This is primarily due to the fact that all three men led for a very short time.
* The modern presidents of Russia -- There's Boris Yeltsin, Vladimir Putin, and...the other guy?Dmitri Medvedev, who served for a few years in between Putin's two terms and took over the office of Prime Minister once Putin returned to the presidency.
* Not too many people outside of Germany can name any member of the Nazi party besides Hitler. The only other well known leaders of Germany are Otto von Bismarck, Wilhelm II, Helmut Kohl, and Angela Merkel.
* Israel's prime ministers were David Ben-Gurion, Golda Meir, Yitzhak Rabin, Ariel Sharon, and Benjamin "Bibi" Netanyahu. Apparently, nobody outside Israel has ever heard of Moshe Sharett, Levi Eshkol, Menachem Begin, Yitzhak Shamir, Shimon Peres, Ehud Barak, and Ehud Olmert. And how many people even know they have presidents, and that they're not the prime ministers? (Peres was the only person to serve in both offices).
* The Trump family? Obviously Donald, the de facto head of the family and 45th President of the United States is the first to come to mind. His daughter Ivanka is a runner-up though, due to being in the spotlight both as a socialite (formerly) and and as a political adviser to Donald (currently). Most can't name the numerous wives he had (except Melania, his current wife), his four other kids (at least, before Donald Jr.-Russia scandal broke), his grandkids, and his other relatives. Another member that's well-known is someone who isn't even a bloodline relative, Jared Kushner (Ivanka's husband).
** The Trump administration team? Obviously it's President Trump again. Other than him (and his family members on the team), the names most people will know are Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Secretary of Education Betsy [=DeVos=], former Chief Strategist Steve Bannon, Senior Counselor Kellyanne Conway, former Director of Communications Anthony Scaramucci, and Press Secretaries Sean Spicer and Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Also, Rick Perry and Ben Carson, although they're less known for their roles in the Trump cabinet than as former Presidential candidates.

* The Heavy from VideoGame/TeamFortress2. His "Meet the Team" video came out first, and he's in the center of the game's loosely-defined "cover art". And he's also a loud, funny Russian guy, which helps a lot.
* Tracer is easily VideoGame/Overwatch[='=]s most recognizable character, being the SeriesMascot and all, and loved for being an endearing BadassAdorable. Thanks to very fervent fandom love and MemeticMutation, the even cuter D.Va rivals Tracer herself in terms of recognizability.
* [=GLaDOS=] is VideoGame/Portals most well-known character, even more so than the actual protagonist Chell.

* VideoGame/BackyardSports: There were thirty kids originally, but few will deny that Pablo Sanchez was the franchise's face.
* Franchise/Pokemon: Let's face it. Most people who're not into the game only know Pikachu, one of the most famous Series Mascots in Japanese media. Charizard is treated as this to a lesser extent, due to its PopularityPower and WolverinePublicity within the franchise, as well as the trading card game and VideoGame/PokemonGo making it coveted among the most casual fans.
* Scorpion will always be the face of VideoGame/MortalKombat. Sub-Zero is a close second. Liu Kang is probably third.
* Ryu in Franchise/StreetFighter, for being the SeriesMascot and archetypical Shotoclone. Chun-Li isn't far behind for being one of the most recognizable characters in fighting games, and often appears alongside Ryu in crossovers.
