Plenty of people, including a few involved in television, have wanted it to come back pretty much since cancellation. It was Development Hell and (in part) a mismanaged time slot for the movie and Russell's first attempt in 1999 failed because of rights issues. Of course there are higher-ups who probably did get in the way for considering it camp, but Russell along with Lorraine Heggessey had tons of enthusiasm with the idea and working out the rights problems.
